iPad 5 Rear Shell Leaked Image Shows Off New Mini Form Factor [Rumor]

iPad 5 Rear Shell Leaked Image Shows Off New Mini Form Factor [Rumor]

An analyst recently predicted the iPad 5 is expected to be 15% thinner and 25% lighter than its predecessor, which seems to fit with all of the leaked images and details of the device over the past couple of months. We also saw the back plate of the iPad 5 earlier this year, but today, we’re seeing a new leaked image of the iPad 5′s shell that gives us some more information as to what to expect from it.

The leaked rear shell of the iPad 5 comes from the same source that leaked the rumored budget iPhone last week. Confirming this is the iPad 5′s rear shell is impossible since we don’t know what it would look like, but judging by previous rumors, this rear shell seems to look like a bigger version of the iPad mini’s rear shell, which the iPad 5 has long been rumored to adopt its look. Photojojo’s telephoto lens brings up to 12x of optical zoom to your iPad

Photojojo's telephoto lens brings up to 12x of optical zoom to your iPad

After creating the Photorito lens wrap that makes your zoom like a burrito, Photojojo has pulled off another feat: making iPad photographers look even wackier than normal. But the company’s iPad telephoto lens is pretty useful if you’re willing to hold a slab to your face to grab images. It brings a useful 10x zoom to the iPad 3 and 4, and 12x to the iPad Mini, giving you un-pixelated closeups along with “slight vignetting, a lo-fi look and all around interest to your photos.” You’re not going to make your iPad any less conspicuous as a camera than it already is, so you can grab the wee lens for $25 at the source.

Alleged next-gen iPad rear casing suggests mini-esque design and finish

Alleged nextgen iPad rear casing suggests miniesque design and finish

We’ve seen a possible case, what could be the front portion of Apple’s next iPad and this time around, Tactus has got its hands on the other half, the rear casing. Unfortunately, it’s the not-so-interesting view, but we can still make out the space for the hole for the camera lens, sharper corners and the same dark blue finish we saw on both the fifth iteration of the iPhone and the iPad Mini. Tactus reckons it’ll hold onto the original iPad’s 9.7-inch display, but surround it with a thinner bezel. As for the rest of the specs that will eventually reside inside the redesigned shell, well, we’ll have to wait for the official reveal from Apple for the full story.

Update: It’s worth noting that 9to5Mac spied a similarly redesigned iPad shell at the start of the year. We’ve included their leak after the break. Thanks for everyone that sent this in!

iPads To Assist Wounded Veterans In Home Care Situation

iPads To Assist Wounded Veterans In Home Care SituationThere is an app for everything, or so they say. The thing is, have we actually run out of the number of apps for different purposes available? Perhaps, or perhaps not, but here we are with the world famous iPad strutting its stuff in a new pilot project that is being implemented by the US Department of Veterans Affairs, where this project will see the loan of more than 1,000 iPads to home-based caregivers which will assist veterans who have suffered severe injuries in the past.

This particular program works this ways – caregivers will be able to receive assistance to help improve the communication as well as health and patient reports, which are currently being performed either over the telephone, or in a manual manner whenever a patient visits a doctor’s office or VA medical center. These iPads have been specially loaded with 9 custom build applications where the caregivers will make use of in order to report and update information that have been incorporated into a larger patient profile. You will find a wealth of information there concerning pain management, prescriptions refills and other health assessments. Anything that helps make life a whole lot easier and more convenient is always a good thing in our books.

Griffin Launches Crayola Light Marker for iPad: The Un-Stylus

I can always tell when my daughter is an art making mood. I don’t have to see her artwork to know she’s feeling artsy, I can look at her hands and tell when she’s been in the marker box. She always ends up with pink and orange swirls on her fingers and on the side of her hand. We also end up with Crayola wrappers everywhere and pieces of paper thrown all around. She typically makes a big mess but ends up with beautiful artwork.

If your kid likes to make a lot of artwork, but isn’t exactly neat about it you might want to check out a new product from Griffin called the Crayola Light Marker for iPad.

crayola light marker

The device itself looks like your typical Crayola marker, only it has a glowing light on one end and works in conjunction with an application that runs on the iPad. Instead of drawing directly on the screen of your iPad, you draw in the air with the Light Marker. It uses the iPad’s front-facing camera to track the position of the marker. It also comes with a stand to hold the iPad in place at just the proper angle for drawing.

The app offers several different things the kids can do including a free draw where they can draw on the screen just like they would on a piece of paper with any color marker they want. The app also includes coloring pages, dot-to-dot pictures, and hide and seek pages to play with. The app is available on the app store at no cost and the Crayola Light Marker itself is available right now for $29.99(USD).

Rumor claims iPad 5 will be thinner and lighter than current model

Apple rumors never die, they just continue to circulate until the new product finally launches and then rumors about the next generation begin. A new rumor is going around this week that comes from TGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo about the next generation iPad. The analyst published a note recently saying that he expects mass production and shipments of the iPad 5 to ramp-up in August to September.

ipad-mock1

He also says that it expects the next generation iPad, being called the iPad 5, to be roughly 15% thinner and 25% lighter than the current normal iPad model. That would mean that the next generation iPad will be somewhere between 7.5 and 8 mm thick. The analyst goes on to predict that Apple we use the same GF2 touch technology in the next generation iPad that it is currently using the iPad mini.

The analyst also believes that the batter capacity for the iPad 5 will be somewhere in the area of 25 to 30% less than the current tablet. He also believes the battery will also feature fewer cells in the battery than the current iPad features, allowing it to be thinner and smaller. The doesn’t necessarily mean (assuming any of his predictions are true) that the next-generation iPad will have less battery life than the existing product.

The analyst also predicts that Apple will continue to use Samsung processors inside the tablet going for the new A7x processor using 28-nanometer process technology. As with all rumors, you have to take these with a grain of salt. However, this analyst in particular does have a decent track record with his Apple predictions.

Taking Photos With An iPad Might Have Saved This Gentleman From Some Serious Injury

Despite the iPad sporting a pretty decent camera, the fact that the tablet is so big makes it something of a faux pas to use it to take photos in public. In fact there are many jokes on the internet that poke fun of people using iPads as their cameras. Either way it seems that using an iPad to snap photos at a girl’s softball tournament may have very well prevented some serious injury to this elderly gentleman. Snapping some photos of the game in action, a foul ball flew straight at him and had the iPad not been positioned in front of his face, well, the results would have been a lot bloodier and a lot less hilarious. Surprisingly the iPad was not damaged despite taking what appears to be a pretty heavy hit, and we have to agree with Gizmodo’s Leslie Horn in saying that this might be the universe’s way of telling this gentleman that perhaps it might be time to stop taking photos with the iPad!

Griffin’s Crayola Light Marker For The iPad Lets Your Kids “Paint” With Light

If you’re looking for a new way to keep your kids entertained with the iPad, Griffin has announced the Crayola Light Marker which allows children to paint with light, a technique which many photographers are probably familiar with, although in this case it is done with the iPad and some accompanying apps that will support it. Basically while the accompanying app is running on the tablet, all your kid would have to do is point the Crayola Light Marker at it and depending on the “game” running, the marker will either allow your child to paint from a distance, use it to act as a flash light to search for things in the dark, or to color the pages in a coloring book. It looks pretty fun and is an alternative way for kids to interact with the tablet other than just swiping on it. Priced at $30, more details about Griffin’s Crayola Light Marker can be found on its website, or you can check the video above out to see it in action.

M-GO digital entertainment service available for iPad users

One of the most common things people do on their iPads and other tablets or smartphone device is to stream video from various streaming services such as Netflix. A new movie streaming service is now available for Safari users on the iPad and the iPad mini. The service is called M-GO and it has been fully optimized for operation on the iPad.

mgo

The streaming service promises that you’ll be able to access new movies and TV shows much earlier than Netflix gets the content. The service doesn’t appear to be a subscription streaming service where you get all you want to watch for one specific price. It’s more of a movie rental service, but the good news is for your first 30 days you can rent movies for only $.99 in standard definition.

If you want to watch an HD version of the film, you’ll pay $1.99 for the first 30 days. IPad users will be able to access the company’s entire movie catalog including new releases such as Django Unchained, Silver Linings Playbook, Gangster Squad and The Impossible. The movie service also has a large catalog of older movies that you can rent in streaming format.

The company says that its platform is device agnostic and can be accessed on all major platforms including Windows and other mobile operating systems. The service allows you to have up to six profiles per account and has a Watch List feature allowing each member of the house to get their own recommendations. I like that idea because my daughter watches tons of animal movies on Netflix so the only thing that ever gets recommended for me are kids films. You can sign up to try the movie service directly from the company’s website.
