It seems that if you happen to reside in France and want to pick up either the iPhone 5s or the iPhone 5c, you will obviously need to be prepared to fork out more money to do so. Apparently, Apple has set the price of both new iPhone models higher than one would have expected on its French web site, although they are not charging you an arm and a leg for it – just a finger, maybe. For example, the 16GB iPhone 5s would cost you €10 ($13.66 USD) more, while the 32GB model will be another €12 ($16.40 USD) higher in pricing compared to what other folks are paying elsewhere in the world. As for the highest capacity 64GB model, it will cost €18 ($24.59 USD) more.

The so called “budget” iPhone 5c has not been spared from this particular price increase, too, as both 16GB and 32GB models of the Apple iPhone 5c would see its price points raised by €10 and €12, respectively. This price increase has nothing to do with the French folks being richer than anyone else in the world, but attributed to the foreign exchange market which reduced Apple’s profit margin. As usual, it is up to the consumer to pick up the slack of a company, and would this slight price increase turn you off?

It has been rumored multiple times over the past couple of weeks that Apple is cutting down on iPhone 5c production due to weak demand. The company hasn’t officially said anything about demand for its plastic iPhone, but supply chain sources in China believe that the iPhone 5c isn’t selling as well as it was expected too. Just yesterday the WSJ weighed in as well, claiming that Foxconn had received directions from Apple to cut down iPhone 5c production by a third, whereas Pegatron was to reportedly cut production was 20 percent. After such claims, one might believe that Apple might have used the wrong strategy for the iPhone 5c, but Wells Fargo Securities analyst Maynard Um believes that it isn’t so.

A couple of days ago, thanks to a rumor out of China, it was suggested that Apple was cutting down iPhone 5c orders from their suppliers and manufacturers due to low demand for the handset. It was a bit drastic and it turns out that the rumors could be true after all, as a new report from The Wall Street Journal has basically corroborated the story as well. According to the report, Foxconn has been asked to cut down their orders by a third, while Pegatron will see their orders reduced by 20%, at least that’s what the WSJ’s sources are claiming.

While this might seem like the demand for the iPhone is going down, that’s not the case as two Foxconn executives have claimed that in place, Apple has upped the orders of the iPhone 5s. This has led to speculation that perhaps Apple overestimated the demand for the iPhone 5c and had assumed that its slightly cheaper price tag would drive customers to the device, but we guess based on this report, perhaps customers are more willing to pay a little bit more to own a higher-end and more powerful handset after all. It is still a bit too early to tell if this means that the iPhone 5c is doomed for failure, but what do you guys think? Would you rather save a bit of money and get the iPhone 5c, or would you rather invest a little more for a “better” product?
