Apple Stores To Soon Start Offering In-Store iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c Repairs

Apple Stores To Soon Start Offering In Store iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c RepairsThe next time you bring your broken iPhone to an Apple retail store, chances are the repairs could very well be conducted in the store itself, according to the folks at 9to5Mac who were tipped on this upcoming initiative by the Cupertino company. Prior to this, damaged iPhones that were under warranty were typically replaced by a brand new, albeit refurbished model, such as problems with the lock or home button. This move by Apple is said to help lower costs where they would have, in the past, sent damaged iPhones overseas for repair, or like we said, replace the unit entirely.

For example if one were to come into an Apple retail store with an iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c whose screen had been damaged or crack, special machinery at the back of the stores, along with the replacement parts, could cost Apple $149 to repair each device, which is apparently cheaper than to give the customer a brand new unit. Apart from being able to repair screens, Apple’s on-site repairs will also include the replacement of volume buttons, vibrating motor, rear-camera and speaker systems, along with home button replacements, although the home button replacements will not be available for the iPhone 5s as Touch ID components are said to be in short supply at the moment.

Apple has been trialing the program with the iPhone 5 earlier this year, but sources of 9to5Mac claim that screen calibration machines and manuals have begun to arrive to at more Apple stores, suggesting that a wider rollout will be taking place soon.

Apple will start in-store screen replacement for iPhone 5C and 5S

Back in May, we mentioned that Apple was looking to change up how it services customer devices under AppleCare warranty. Traditionally Apple has simply replaced a lot of iPhone models if damaged with a new device. As a way to reduce costs, Apple announced it will have employees at its Genius Bar repair items. Word […]

Apple Issues Shutdown Notice To Website That Helps Find Apple Products

When Apple launches a new product, we know how difficult it can be to head on over to an Apple Store or other retailer to simply pick up whatever it is Apple has released. We know you’ve been told “we’re sold out,” and “we’re expecting a new shipment later this week,” one too many times. Today, Apple is making it harder to find their products in a store near you as they have issued a DMCA takedown notice for Apple tracking website Apple-tracker.com.

iPhone 5s Sells Out In 24 Hours In India

iPhone 5s Sells Out In 24 Hours In IndiaThe iPhone 5s is Apple’s latest smartphone and while it does keep to the design of its predecessor, the iPhone 5, it comes with improved hardware under its hood, namely the A7 processor, its M7 co-processor, and the TouchID fingerprint sensor, all of which makes it a pretty compelling purchase for those looking for a new phone. Interestingly enough it seems that the iPhone 5s has done pretty well for itself over in India which some consider to be an emerging market where low-cost devices, such as the Nokia Lumia 520 have flourished and in a way have helped boost the Windows Phone market share in India.

According to a report by the Times of India, it seems that the iPhone 5s has been so popular to the point where it has actually managed to sell out across all retailers in a matter of 24 hours, prompting retailers to ask for more stock. It seems that this stocking out might have something to do with the fact that projected sales in India weren’t high to begin with, especially in the face of the upcoming low-cost Nexus 5, to the point where Apple had only supplied retailers with 6,000 units of the iPhone 5s. The iPhone 5c is reportedly still available, but we guess the demand shows that customers are looking for the iPhone 5s, and not so much the iPhone 5c.

Nike+ Move App For iPhone 5s Launched, Turns Your iPhone 5s Into A FuelBand

Nike+ Move App For iPhone 5s Launched, Turns Your iPhone 5s Into A FuelBandOne of the features of the iPhone 5s would be its M7 co-processor, which helps take some load off the A7 chip in a bid to help make things more efficient as well as conserve some battery. One of the apps announced at the iPhone 5s’ launch that would take advantage of the M7 co-processor was the Nike+ Move app and the good news for those iPhone 5s users out there looking to give it a try, you’re in luck as the app has since launched on the iTunes App Store and will be a free download and will only be available for iPhone 5s users.

The app will make use of the iPhone 5s’ co-processor and CoreMotion APIs in iOS 7, essentially allowing the app to track your movements more reliably and accurately while collecting data in the background. Best of all, this can be done even when the phone is asleep and will help contribute to more efficient battery use. The data collected by the phone will then be converted into NikeFuel, which is basically a metric used by Nike to gauge how active you are which can also be used to compare against friends or other Nike+ Move users. This is similar to how the Nike FuelBand works so if you don’t want to spend extra money on the FuelBand, your iPhone 5s should do the trick.

Process For Defected iPhone 5s Replacement Detailed

Process For Defected iPhone 5s Replacement Detailed

A couple of days back we reported that Apple had acknowledged that a limited number of iPhone 5s devices were suffering from battery related issues due to a manufacturing defect. The issue might cause reduced battery life, longer charge time or even failure to charge at all. The company confirmed that it would be providing replacement phones to those affected by the issue, and the folks at 9to5Mac claim to have heard exactly how this process is going to be carried out.

Apparently Apple will call up customers who have an iPhone 5s unit that falls within the affected serial numbers to offer them a replacement. If a customer believes that their unit suffers from the same issue but haven’t received a call, they can call AppleCare which will check the system to see if the unit’s serial number matches those with the manufacturing defect. If not, AppleCare is told to troubleshoot as per normal procedure. Those eligible for a replacement will be given a Genius Bar appointment or the AppleCare advisor will organize a replacement at their local reseller. Eligible customers may also have the option to have a replacement unit shipped at their home, and Apple is said to provide material for return shipping. Apple hasn’t revealed exactly how many iPhone 5s units out there are affected by this defect. If you’re one of these customers, just remember to backup your iPhone prior to handing it over.

Apple Doesn’t Want Developers Using Gold iPhone 5s In Marketing Materials

Apple Doesnt Want Developers Using Gold iPhone 5s In Marketing Materials

Developers rushed to updated and optimize their apps for iOS 7 and the iPhone 5s when they were released last month, though its quite interesting to see that none of the promotional materials for newly updated apps show the gold iPhone 5s, despite the fact that it was probably one of the most highly anticipated color offerings Apple was expected to announce. It seems that Apple doesn’t want developers to use the gold iPhone 5s in their promotional materials, instead opting to highlight the new color on its own.

Developers are provided product images with blank display areas where they can paste screenshots of their apps through Apple’s App Store Marketing Guidelines page. Images are of the most current products, and only a few color options are provided. The iPhone 5s, iPad Air and iPad mini are limited to space gray and silver. iPhone 5c to blue and white, and the iPod touch 5G to blue and space gray. Developers opting for custom photography or video are given strict rules to follow, the can only use the most current products in only the color options mentioned above, evidently no gold iPhone 5s. On the other hand, Apple has been extensively using gold iPhone 5s in its print and TV ads, so it really does seem that the company doesn’t want anyone else to use its latest color offering for marketing purposes.
