iPhone 5s Bends Like Its Predecessor Apparently [Rumor]

iPhone 5s Bends Like Its Predecessor Apparently [Rumor]

It has been less than a month since Apple released the iPhone 5s. The new smartphone was initially rolled out to a number of select markets, including Japan, China and obviously the U.S. Reports coming in from China claim that the iPhone 5s bends, similar complaints were heard last time around when the iPhone 5 was released. The problem was faced by a small number of early adopters back then and the devices weren’t actually as bent as the iPhone 5S seen in these pictures. It is not exactly known for sure what is causing some iPhone 5s units to bend, and obviously the possibility exists that these images are fake and fabricated since similar reports haven’t come in from any other markets.

iPhone 6 Display Size Will Be 4.8 Inches [Analyst]

iPhone 6 Display Size Will Be 4.8 Inches [Analyst]

It was recently reported that Apple is testing a number of iPhone prototypes internally with varying display sizes up to a massive six inches, which effectively pushes the iPhone into the phablet category. Some don’t expect Apple to go that high, they believe that the company would hover around 5 inches for its next iPhone. The infamous Jefferies analyst Peter Misek predicts that the iPhone 6 display size is going to be 4.8 inches. He makes the prediction in a note to investors after meeting with Apple’s suppliers, who are primarily based in Asia.

Ever since the original iPhone was released back in 2007, Apple stuck with a 3.5 inch display. It bumped the display upto 4 inches when the iPhone 5 was released last year and the same size has been retained for iPhone 5s, which was released last month. All rumors that we’ve heard up till now predict that the next iPhone is going to come with a larger display, and if the 4.8 inch size is to be believed, it is going to be the biggest jump in display size Apple has ever made in the history of the iPhone. The market for smartphones with larger displays definitely exists, nearly 50 percent of all smartphones that were shipped in the previous quarter had displays larger than 4 inches. The demand is there, all Apple needs to do is adapt. It hasn’t said if and when it will do that, so those waiting for an iPhone with a larger display will just have to wait and watch.

NTT Docomo Finally Gets The iPhone, But Subscribers Still Flee Due To Low Stock

    iphone 5s and iphone 5c

Japanese carrier NTT Docomo has revealed that it experienced a record monthly drop in subscribers for September, which is somewhat surprising given that the company was the lone remaining major Japanese carrier without the iPhone on offer until the release of the iPhone 5s and 5c, also in September. The mobile operator blames the iPhone as the reason behind the dip, however, in a twist that shows that when it comes to iPhone, customers are looking for immediate satisfaction.

Docomo blamed a drop of 66,800 subscribers during September to limited stock of new iPhone devices, according to a report from Reuters in Tokyo today, which contrasts considerably with what rivals KDDI and SoftBank saw. Both of those carriers received net subscriber additions in September thanks to the new iPhone’s launch, something Docomo ascribes to them having plenty of iPhone hardware on hand to meet demand.

Despite this setback, Docomo will probably eventually see a net benefit from having the iPhone. Using the U.S. situation as an example, it took a long time for AT&T’s competitors to start to win back the subscribers they’d slowly shed to that U.S. carrier after it held the iPhone exclusive contract for years. Low stock out of the gate for Docomo vs. both KDDI and SoftBank suggests that perhaps the two existing players got preference as to early shipments, or it’s possible that Docomo underestimated demand for Apple’s iPhone and as a result put in low initial orders.

There’s a larger point to be made here about the iPhone and its effects on carrier fortunes: This is definitely a device that people are willing to jump fences for. The example here proves that customers weren’t willing to wait even so much as a few weeks to get their hands on the device on a network they’re already used to when it’s readily available elsewhere. Of course, the ultimate fear for mobile operators is that they become just another interchangeable dumb pipe, with the device driving buyer network decisions, and it looks like that could be exactly what’s happening in the Japanese market, at least.

iPhone 5s Top Selling Smartphone On All U.S. Carriers In September [Report]

iPhone 5s Top Selling Smartphone On All U.S. Carriers In September [Report]

Apple unveiled the new iPhones last month. Ten days after the announcement, it released the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c in a number of select markets around the globe. The U.S. was obviously one of those markets. Lines had started forming up outside Apple Retail Stores days before the actual release, it became evident that significant consumer demand existed for Apple’s newest smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy S4 was the top selling smartphone in the U.S. prior to the launch of the new iPhones. It has been dethroned by the iPhone 5s in September, says research firm Canaccord Genuity. The iPhone 5s is now said to be the top selling smartphone on Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile last month.

Canaccord doesn’t mention in the report exactly how many units have been sold on all four carriers, it says that the Galaxy S4 has now been pushed down to the second slot. On some carriers, it also appeared to be in third place. The firm claims that iPhone 5s is seeing “strong sales,” same has been said for its younger sibling, the iPhone 5c. During the last quarter of this year, Apple might end up moving 52 million iPhones around the world, Canaccord believes. Sales are expected to retain momentum over the following weeks, given that the holiday shopping season is just around the corner.
