Otterbox Announces TouchID Compatible iPhone 5S Cases

Otterbox Announces TouchID Compatible iPhone 5S CasesWhen Apple announced the iPhone 5S today with its new TouchID sensor built into the home button, many were wondering what this could mean for case manufacturers, especially those who typically encase the iPhone entirely, and sometimes even providing an external button to press the home button with. Those cases are typically designed for those who require the ultimate protection of their phone, but at the same time it would render the feature useless. Well the good news for Otterbox fans is that the company has announced new cases that have been designed for the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C in mind that will also play nicely with the TouchID sensor.

According to the Otterbox press release, “The new styling of the Defender Series was designed specifically to accommodate the new Touch ID fingerprint identity sensor technology, and all device functionality remains uninhibited by the case.” The cases that will play nicely with the iPhone 5S includes the Defender, Commuter, Reflex, and Prefix cases and are available for purchase. The Defender and Commuter cases for the iPhone 5C are expected to be made available at a later date. The iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C will go on sale come 20th of September, but we guess you can go ahead and purchase your accessories in the meantime.

Apple Not Taking iPhone 5S Pre-Orders, Supply Constraints Suspected

Apple Not Taking iPhone 5S Pre Orders, Supply Constraints SuspectedFor those looking to upgrade their iPhones, the iPhone 5S was recently announced and based on its specs and features, it looks like it would make a pretty worthwhile upgrade. The phone will be launched at the same time as the iPhone 5C, which is on the 20th of September, but unfortunately unlike the iPhone 5C, the iPhone 5S will not be available for pre-order on the 13th of September, or at all. This led to speculation that the iPhone 5S could be facing some supply constraints at the start, possibly due to the new hardware and features they were introducing to the device, unlike the iPhone 5C which was basically a slightly upgraded iPhone 5, just in a different body.

The lack of pre-orders was confirmed by an Apple representative who spoke to the folks at Apple Insider, stating that the phone will be available for purchase online, but there would not be a pre-order program. Unfortunately Apple did not deign to give a reason as to why there would be no such pre-order program which has been pretty much the case for previous iPhones, which is why many believe it could be due to supply constraints, and Apple not willing to make promises on deliveries they might not be able to make. What this means for would-be iPhone 5S customers is that you’d have to either order the device online and hope that it isn’t sold out, or you could stand in line at an Apple store on launch day.

Official Charging Docks For iPhone 5S And iPhone 5C

Official Charging Docks For iPhone 5S And iPhone 5C

Apple has announced a couple of accessories today for the new iPhones that it unveiled earlier today. New covers have been announced for the iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5S. There’s a soft-feel silicone cover being offered for the iPhone 5C and a leather cover for the iPhone 5S. For both smartphones, Apple will also be selling docks. There’s a separate dock for each smartphone, however the iPhone 5S dock is compatible with iPhone 5 as well.

There’s really no difference in the design of the two different docks that Apple will sell. Both have a Lightning connected facing upwards, the device has to be pushed into the dock so that it fits snugly. The dock can be used to charge the iPhones, and since the screen is always visible while they’re charging, the dock can also be used to conduct a hands-free video call. There’s also an audio out port through which stereo or powered speakers can be connected to play music. Both docks retail for $29. While they have been listed online, its unlikely that they can be purchased before September 13th, that’s when Apple starts taking pre-orders for the iPhone 5C. Its possible that the new docks might begin shipping alongside iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C on September 20th.
