Apple Will Ship Both A “High-End And Low-End” iPhone In September, WSJ Reports

照片8.18-006

Apple is going to ship new iPhones next month – two different new variants, including a “low-end” and a “high-end” variant, according to a new Wall Street Journal report today. At this stage, we’ve seen lots to suggest that Apple would indeed announce two versions of the iPhone at its rumored event on September 10, but the WSJ makes it a pretty sure bet.

The WSJ doesn’t get into specifics about what we’ll see from new iPhones, but it’s likely that we’ll get the iPhone 5S, which would follow in the footsteps of the iPhone 5 with a metal body similar to the previous design (with a new double-flash for the camera and higher specs), as well as an iPhone 5C with a rear plastic case in multiple colors (likely very similar to the leaks from Sonny Dickson (source for image above) we’ve been seeing recently). I’d say both the names are subject to change, but the material details are essentially a known quantity at this point.

We also know that there will almost certainly be a new gold colorway for the iPhone 5S, as reported by TechCrunch this weekend and confirmed by AllThingsD earlier today. A ship date of later in September would also be in keeping with the timing of previous iPhone launches, where hardware typically hits consumer shelves a maximum of two weeks after the announcement.

Two new iPhones at once would seem to represent a new level of difficulty for Apple’s supply chain, but frequently-accurate analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said earlier today that Apple could replace the iPhone 5 entirely with the iPhone 5C (or whatever it ends up being called), making it likely that a lot of the production processes from that device would be shifted into place for the low-cost variant.

Apple’s event will likely have company in terms of announcements from rival Samsung, so expect a busy September all around.

Gold iPhone 5S “Confirmed” By Various Sources

Gold iPhone 5S Confirmed By Various Sources

Up till a week ago we hadn’t really heard much about a gold-tone iPhone 5S in the rumor cycle. Over the past week there have been a barrage of reports claiming that gold is going to be one of the color options for Apple’s upcoming flagship smartphone. Now a number of major news outlets, who claim to have heard from sources with knowledge of the matter, “confirm” that Apple will indeed be releasing the gold iPhone 5S in the coming months. It is said that demand exists for such a color particularly in markets such as China and India, and that gold is one of the most common choices of people who go for after market paint jobs on their iPhones.

AllThingsD’s source claims that this gold tone will be “elegant,” more like champagne. The iPhone 5S will have a white face with a gold-tone back plate and edges. Other reports suggest that the color wouldn’t at all be tacky or over the top, which most customers are likely to avoid. Furthermore, it is said that gold color is much more easier to anodize on an iPhone as opposed to other colors. Couple that with rising demand and Apple has a reason to make such a color option available. We’ve already seen a purported leaked casing of the gold iPhone 5S, though it is now believed that it might have been fake. As always, Apple is tight-lipped about its future iPhone plans.

iPhone 5S Production Issues Might Cause It To Get Outshipped By iPhone 5C

iPhone 5S Production Issues Might Cause It To Get Outshipped By iPhone 5C

We’re less than a month away from September 10th, when Apple is expected to unveil its new smartphones. There have been many rumors over the past couple of months claiming that Apple is facing production issues which might constrain iPhone 5S shipments upon launch. The primary cause of these issues is said to be the fingerprint sensor. As per a well known analyst with a solid track record of predicting Apple’s plans, the production issues might lead to the iPhone 5S being outshipped by the iPhone 5C in the September quarter.

Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities believes that Apple will ship 8.4 million iPhone 5C units while only managing to ship 5.2 million units of the iPhone 5S. Despite that, Kuo believes that iPhone 5C won’t become Apple’s best selling iPhone. Instead the iPhone 5S shipments are expected to grow by 438 percent in the holiday quarter after September, reaching to nearly 28 million units being shipped around the globe. Even if the future means that iPhone 5S units will roll off production lines without any further issues, Apple would have limited supply available at launch to meet the demand of all those who have been waiting for a new iPhone, for well over a year now. Both iPhones will be launched in selected markets initially, and stock will be divided between those markets to cater to the launch day demand. Another analyst recently said that iPhone 5S is going to be Apple’s most successful iPhone launch ever, one can bet that initial demand will be overwhelming.

iPhone 5C Will Replace iPhone 5 Instead Of The iPhone 4S, Analyst Claims

iPhone 5C Will Replace iPhone 5 Instead Of The iPhone 4S, Analyst Claims

Apple is expected to unveil two new smartphones next month. One of them is said to be a budget offering, a toned down variant of the iPhone, which is reportedly going to be called the iPhone 5C. A recent rumor had claimed that Apple would stop offering iPhone 4S and instead replace it with the iPhone 5C as the entry-level iPhone offering. In a note to investors today, famed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities said that instead of replacing the iPhone 4S, the budget offering would instead replace iPhone 5. This move would essentially make the iPhone 5C a mid-range product instead of the low-end device everyone is making it out to be.

There’s just one problem that would remain if the iPhone 5C doesn’t replace iPhone 4S. Apple wouldn’t be able to phase out the old 30 pick dock connector which the iPhone 4S uses. If it were to be replaced by the company’s upcoming budget smartphone, the entire lineup would then become compatible with Apple’s Lightning connector. Recent rumors suggest that iPhone 5C might be priced somewhere between $300 to $400, customers would not be required to take up a service contract with a carrier. On the other hand, iPhone 4S would be offered for free with a two year contract. There’s no confirmation about any of these plans just yet, so its best not to form a notion right now about the upcoming iPhones.

The gold iPhone is a done deal, says AllThingsD

The gold iPhone is a done deal, says AllThingsD

Go on, reject the notion. Work yourself into a tizzy. Then, grab an Orange Crush and a bag chair, ’cause you’re going to need some serious support to handle the realization. The gold iPhone is coming, and it’ll be launched during Apple’s upcoming event on September 10th. As AllThingsD reports, a new flagship iPhone will be unveiled with an “elegant gold tone,” which is said to be more like champagne in actuality. If the rumors prove true, we should see a white face with a gilded rear… which will never be seen by anyone once you strap a case on it. Best of all? We’re sensing a golden opportunity for Macklemore to score a product placement promotion in a future music video.
