Fuse Chicken announces togoDock magnetic dock for the iPhone

plugdockHave you heard of Fuse Chicken before? They happen to be the ones behind the insanely popular Une Bobine, and their latest creation would be the togoDock. The togoDock happens to be an ingenious magnetic dock for the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C as well as the iPhone 5, where it would arrive with embedded magnets that can be mounted to just about any surface without missing a beat. Not only that, the togoDock would also boast of an integrated charge cable that allows you to deliver power on-the-go, making it a whole lot more handy than you originally expected. .

Fawcett, CEO of Fuse Chicken, shared, “Our goal is to make everyday interaction with technology simple. Our newest device lets you mount and charge your iPhone anywhere – in the car as a GPS, in the kitchen to follow recipes, next to the bed as an alarm clock; togoDock is simple, cool and useful, and it fits right into your pocket.”

As the owner of a togoDock, you will be able to mount it in a couple of methods. The first of the two ways would be to place it straight onto a magnetic surface, while for all of the other surfaces that you want the togoDock to be mounted on, you can always make use of the pair of included self-adhesive disc mounts that will double up as a magnetic surface, allowing it to cling to togoDock’s embedded magnets. The togoDock also comes with a built-in backstop for extra stability and support, a MFI certified Lightning Connector for iPhone 5S/5C/5, a cable cord wrap outfitted with a standard USB for charging, and a car adapter which would come in handy for those who are constantly driving around.

Right now, the togoDock is part of an Indiegogo campaign, where the first 200 backers will be on the receiving end of a 3D-printed PLUGdock that will convert an Apple iPhone charging cord into an outlet-mounted dock. Reserving one on Indiegogo would cost you $30 a pop.

Formula One Speaker Dock looks too good to be used

f1-speaker-dockThere are iPhone speaker docks, and then there are iPhone speaker docks. The $8,500 Formula One Speaker Dock would definitely fall into the latter category, where the entire iPhone speaker dock has been made from a material that is not easily found – that is, using the exhaust manifold of a Formula One race car that is no longer in used. This particular iPhone speaker dock has been specially crafted in Modena, Italy, which is the city which many have already touted to be the cradle of Italian race car innovation.

It uses either left or right manifold of a retired eight-cylinder F1 engine of your choice, where among them would include a 1978 Cosworth DFV, 2006 Renault RS26, and 2007 Ferrari 056, among others. Within the openings of the manifold’s four headpipes, there will be neodymium magnets, a couple of silk-dome, 70-watt tweeters and two PPM-cone, 70-watt mid-range speakers each in order to deliver clear highs and mids. At the end of the manifold’s collector tube, you will find a doped-paper cone 140-watt active subwoofer that is being driven by a high-density flux ferrite which will pump out booming bass. This particular iPhone speaker dock will play nice only with iPhones and iPods with 30-pin connectors.

Foaster Dock Toasts iPhones with Lightning Cables

Designer Mike Charles wanted to have a dock for his iPhone that would not only reduce cable clutter but blend in his kitchen as well. He ended up with the Foaster, a dock for the iPhone 5, 5S and 5C that looks just like a toaster. He gets bonus points for not naming it the iToaster.

The Foaster has a plastic body with aluminum trim. It will come with two MFi-certified Lightning-to-USB cables so you can charge up to two iPhones at once. Sadly, unlike a real toaster its slots are not spring-loaded. The phones won’t sink when you plug them in and they certainly won’t pop off when they’re done charging. But at least you can easily plug and unplug your iPhone from the dock.

Pledge at least $79 (USD) on Kickstarer to get a Foaster as a reward. What’s next? Foven for iPads?

Add AirPlay To Your Old 30-Pin iPhone Dock With The Auris Skye Kickstarter Project

skye

Old iPhone docks are a depressing sight in this world of Lightning cables and connectors, sitting with their 30-pin connector exposed and lonely. There are a number of Bluetooth accessories that you can use with those devices, including one from accessory-maker Auris called the freeDa. But their latest project is a similar attachment that brings AirPlay and DLNA streaming to those docks.

The Auris Skye is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, and connects via Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth. It lets you stream music from your iPhone, iPad touch, Android or Windows Phone and Mac or PC on your local Wi-Fi network, using either Apple’s proprietary AirPlay streaming protocol or DLNA on Android and Windows. It’s also Wi-Fi Direct enabled, so that you don’t even need to have a Wi-Fi router or network available to use it.

Their are a few advantages to using AirPlay over Bluetooth. For one, if you have other AirPlay speakers and stereo equipment in your home, you can stream to the Skye and those simultaneously from a Mac or PC. Apple also has done its best to optimize the AirPlay streaming protocol for maximum quality, so you’ll get much better sound using it vs. Bluetooth, so long as the Skye works as advertised. Plus, there’s no need to pair; the Skye should just show up in your list of available streaming devices once set up on your network. Finally, Wi-Fi range is far greater than that of Bluetooth.

Skye also doesn’t need a separate power source, as it uses the power from the dock itself, which would normally be used to charge the iOS device sitting in the cradle. The Auris team says they’ve tested it with a range of speakers already, and so far haven’t found one that doesn’t work, and they offer a control app to get you set up.

Santa Clara-based Auris already makes and ships two audio accessories, so it knows how to build product. The company previously kickstarted its Bluetooth receiver, and raised $131,911 (exceeding its $40,000) goal. It’s worth noting that some backers complained about the quality of that device in the comments for that project, but Auris has redesigned the original product, and has already exceeded its $56,000 goal for the Skye, raising $72,197.

AirPlay can be tricky to get right, though the recent incarnations of the tech in consumer products have all performed reliably, so Auris has a lot to deliver with this project and a shipping timeline of December, 2013. Hopefully the company learned some lessons from its first go-around, however, because this is a very useful accessory to have.

BenQ Joybee GP3 projector comes dock-ready for iPhones

BenQ doesn’t see the limelight that often, but their aim is set high. The company announced the Joybee GP3 portable projector which comes with an iPhone/iPod dock that allows users to project content that’s stored on their iOS devices. There’s also a new feature that can wirelessly stream content from other devices over a DLNA connection.

Screen Shot 2013-05-09 at 11.11.15 AM

This new projector is the successor to the GP2, and BenQ claims it comes with improved brightness and better contrast. The GP3 can also project images up to 160 inches in diagonally, and it has a 2-watt built-in speaker, although it most likely won’t do the trick in a slightly larger room, so a pair of external speakers may come in handy in this case.

Of course, though, the main new feature on this palm-sized projector is the iPhone dock (using the older 30-pin connection). However, if you don’t have an iPhone, the projector offers several other ways to hook up media to the device, including plugging in a flash drive and microSD card, as well as wirelessly streaming content from another mobile device or PC.

There’s also 2GB of storage tucked inside in case a flash drive or microSD card is too much for you, although that probably won’t be enough for a couple of movies, but an album-full of photos would be the perfect fit. The internal battery is said to last 2.5 hours, which will get you through at least a movie and some, so be prepared to take the charger along with you. The GP3 is expected to ship later this month, but no pricing details have been disclosed yet.

Snooze iPhone dock

Don’t you think that the world is now a better place with the introduction of crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter? Well, BiteMyApple.co is an online retailer whose speciality lies in exclusive Kickstarter products for Apple accessories, and they have now begun to ship the highly anticipated Snooze iPhone dock. The Snooze iPhone dock will play nice with the latest iPhone 5 as well as the older iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S models, sporting a giant, rubber snooze button which makes it easier to quiet the alarm or incoming calls whenever the latter happens. You will find the Snooze iPhone dock to be a decent looker in your bedroom, coming across in a sleek and unique form factor that will definitely help you kiss goodbye to the ‘morning fumbles’, which are best described as that initial wakeup moment where you desperately try to locate the tiny snooze button on your phone; but being groggy and all, end up knocking your phone or clock off the nightstand.

Chris Johnson, Founder of BiteMyApple.co., said, “I’m always on the lookout for Kickstarter products that offer a solution to an everyday problem. The Snooze does just that. You can rest easy knowing that the extra five minutes of sleep won’t cost you your expensive smartphone in the process.”

You will find quality oozing out from the Snooze, as it is crafted from solid, Maple or Oak in a range of finishes. As the user, all you need to do is simply slide the Apple smartphone horizontally into the cut out tracks for a secure, safe fit. There is a non-slip silicone bottom present that ensures a firm grip on the bedside tabletop, making sure that it will not shift or fall over whenever you hit the snooze button, while its smooth texture will not scratch or damage furniture in the vicinity. For that added touch of genius, a built-in cord catch will ensure that your cable will not fall behind the nightstand. You can pick up the Snooze iPhone dock for $39.99 a pop.
