On Thursday afternoon, a verified China Telecom account on the Weibo microblog posted an advert for advance orders of the iPhone 5S and 5C—the phones we expect Apple to announce next week
You already know what’s going to happen. Tim Cook will get on stage next week, Jony Ive will wax poetic about chamfered edges, Phil Schiller will be his jolly self and a new iPhone will be announced to the world. It’ll look a lot like the iPhone we already know but Apple will find some way to make it seem as if it’ll change everything. The video puts it best, "to create the new iPhone, we started with a design we really loved and then… stopped."
In Japan, only two carriers offer the iPhone, and they are KDDI and SoftBank. NTT DOCOMO, while being Japan’s largest carrier, has held off from offering the iPhone officially, at least until now where Yahoo Japan has reported that the carrier has finally signed a deal with Apple to sell the iPhone on its network, with the first iPhones expected to arrive this fall, presumably that of the iPhone 5S and maybe even the iPhone 5C. This follows reports that the carrier started to bleed subscribers due to them not offering the iPhone, and there have also been talks that the carrier and Apple were negotiating a deal.
In the past one of the reasons NTT DOCOMO held off from offering the iPhone is because of the obligations that they would have to Apple if they were to do so. The carrier also wanted to preload apps onto the iPhone, which is a big no-no to Apple as they want to offer users “clean” experience, compared to Android devices which typically comes preloaded with apps from carriers, also known as bloatware. In any case with Apple signing a deal with Japan’s largest carrier, and also with China’s largest carrier rumored to begin taking pre-orders for the iPhone 5C, it looks like Apple will be able to reach out to an even wider audience.

iPhone 5 Side by side with the Samsung Galaxy S3
It wasn’t until the iPhone 5 that Apple finally started offering a device with a larger screen. Previous iPhone devices have stubbornly stuck to the 3.5” display, with the iPhone 5 finally making the jump to 4”, but with devices like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 sporting displays of at least 5”, it looks like Apple needs to play catchup, and according to a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, that’s exactly what the Cupertino company is doing in its secret lab. Every other startup out there is trying to become the new big thing in email, but what we get more often than not is a bunch of half-baked tweaks that sound nice on paper but don’t really do all that much to change the experience. Ping, however, actually is probably unlike any other email client you’ve used before.
Just as Apple is set to show of their next round of iPhone devices with 4-inch displays – like the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, for example – word has it that they’re in testing with handsets as large as 6-inches. A report from the the Wall Street Journal today suggests that sources familiar with […]
All-you-can-eat subscriptions work well for digital magazines, music and videos; why shouldn’t they work for e-books? Oyster certainly thinks they should, as it just launched a flat-rate book service for iPhone users. Members pay $10 per month for unfettered access to about 100,000 books from HarperCollins, Hougton Mifflin Harcourt and smaller publishers. The unlimited-use model also facilitates a Goodreads-like social component that shows what friends are reading at any given moment. Bookworms can request an invitation today. Oyster hasn’t said if or when the service will go without invitations, but it hopes to release an iPad app in the near future.

The pictures may not quite drive the point home, so let us just say that this thing is a beast. And frankly the idea carrying it around using the add-on strip is giving us lower-back pain just thinking of it. But heck, it probably weighs a good deal less that carrying around cart after cart of vinyl — not to mention a couple of turntables and a whole PA system (not to mention all of those glow sticks). Philips’ M1X-DJ is a cool take on the idea of the computer DJ. It’s essentially a massive dock that connects to your iPad / iPhone via the lightning connector. On top, you’ll find two DJ platters and a mixer.
As we noted before, the M1X-DJ is hitting Europe in November, priced at €399. Click on through to the other side to check out a video of the wheels of plastic in action.%Gallery-slideshow81799%

We are not quite sure as to whether this is a hoax or a mistake, but China Telecom has already decided to go ahead and announce pre-orders for the budget oriented iPhone 5C, all without waiting for Apple themselves to launch the smartphone in the first place. Apparently, an invitation for you to place a pre-order for the iPhone 5C has already been posted on Weibo, and it does seem to belong to China Telecom Beijing Service. This particular account has a following of some 1.3 million fans, so it does seem to be weighty in some aspects.
However, it always pays to err on the side of caution, and since this particular pre-order announcement before the device is officially announced has not been certified, it does raise some alarm bells. So far, more of the iPhone 5C images that were posted have already been removed, perhaps after this particular “mistake” was spotted. The thing is, this pre-order page was not hosted on a main China Telecom website, which does make it seem as though it is not legit at all. Apart from that, it did mention that the iPhone 5C will arrive with NFC capability – now this is definitely something new to mull over, don’t you think so?

I’ve definitely seen some weird and impractical iPhone cases over the years, so why would I think this trend would ever end. For instance, did you know that if you’re in Japan, you can now dress up your iPhone 5 as a banana?
This wacky thing was spotted by Redditor cirethesquire while checking out the shops in Tokyo. Admit it – we’ve all picked up a banana at some point and pretended it was a phone, but this is ridiculous.
