Apple patent shows device-centric automatic car settings

If you ever drive someone’s car or let someone else drive your vehicle, you likely spend a couple minutes before driving having to re-adjust certain aspects of the car to meet your needs and preference: the side-view mirrors, the steering wheel, the seat height and distance from wheel. Apple has a different vision for your […]

Apple Finally Fixed the Bug That Let Fake Chargers Hack Your iPhone

The bug that allowed fake chargers to hack your iPhone has finally been fixed by Apple. Good! But you won’t get the software fix until iOS 7. Apple was alerted of the security hole earlier this year and the hack was demonstrated at the Black Hat hacking convention on Wednesday.

Imgur for iOS arrives with endless supply of distractions

Imgur for iOS arrives with an endless supply of distractions

Slackers unite! Imgur for iOS is now here, giving you one more reason to shirk your responsibilities rather than tackle your to-do list. The release looks an awful lot like the Android version, but don’t let that stand as a deterrent, because there’s plenty of functionality to enjoy. This includes the ability to upload, submit and vote on images, and even manage your albums and account. You can also browse images by ranking or what’s gone viral, and then share them via email, SMS and Twitter. If anyone (such as your boss) gives you guff for spending too much time on Imgur, just remind ’em that happiness is good for productivity. Couldn’t hurt, anyway.

iOS 7 features notification to guard against charging station hack vulnerability

At the Black Hat event taking place in Las Vegas, three individuals showed off a security issue that leaves iPhones and iPads open to hacks when connected to a fake charging station, something they reportedly informed Apple of earlier in 2013. An Apple spokesperson publicly thanked the researchers today in a statement to Reuters, and […]

US Senators Urge Trade Representative To Think About Repercussions Of ITC Ban On iPhones And iPads

US Senators Urge Trade Representative To Think About Repercussions Of ITC Ban On iPhones And iPads

Samsung and Apple have been at each other’s throats for a long time now, and both sides have won some cases, and lost some, and in Apple’s case, the Cupertino company’s older lineup of products such as the iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS, and the iPad 2 3G will be facing a ban in the US, ultimately preventing the device from being sold legally. This is due to the findings of the court who came to the conclusion that Apple infringed upon declared standard-essential patents owned by Samsung and is expected to go into effect come 5th of August, but it looks like there are a handful of US senators who believe that the ITC should reconsider this move. A Colorful Budget iPhone Could Look Awfully Pretty on Shelves

A Colorful Budget iPhone Could Look Awfully Pretty on Shelves

There’s been a lot of leakage about that rumored budget iPhone lately, from sneakshots of all-white "iPhone 5C" packaging to repeated WSJ mentions. We still haven’t seen one of the devices in color, though. Not yet. And these renders by Martin Hajek show off how positively delightful a nice splash could be.

Samsung edges past Apple in US smartphone satisfaction study, but reverse is true in Korea

Samsung Galaxy S III and iPhone 4S

What a difference a year makes. Apple topped American Customer Satisfaction Index’s smartphone rankings back in 2012, but Samsung has taken the lead in 2013 by a slim margin. Owners responding to ACSI’s national survey gave an 84-point score to both the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II, putting the two Samsung phones just past the 82-point iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S. Researchers haven’t explained the changing attitudes, although they add that the Galaxy S 4 and other newer phones didn’t ship in time to count. It’s at least clear that the American sentiment doesn’t extend worldwide — ACSI notes that South Koreans ranked the iPhone 5 higher than the Galaxy S III despite Samsung’s home turf advantage. Apple also maintains the lead in ACSI’s device-independent scores at 81 points to 76, although Samsung is quickly catching up. It’s safe to say that neither smartphone maker can afford to relax.

Pinterest upgrades iPhone app with animated pinning shortcuts

DNP Pinterest iPhone pinning shortcut

Given its CEO’s stance on the importance of mobile, it’s only natural for Pinterest to keep polishing its apps. The newest iPhone version, for instance, brings with it an animated shortcut for repinning, liking and sending pins to pals when you press on an entry. Though similar in function to Tumblr’s sharing tools, the menu boasts fancier graphics that fit the social networks’ aesthetic. As a nice bonus, Pinterest’s also adding an Edit Home Feed button for speedier housekeeping on the iPhone and the ability to send pins to your friends from the iPad. Assuming you’re willing to wade through a deluge of recipes, inspirational quotes and bridal photos, you can check out the app via the links below.

iPhone 5S chassis surfaces in factory image alongside specifications

Earlier this month, we reported on an iPhone 5S leak that included production shots and a batch of specifications, some of which went against what earlier leaks had said to expect of the latest iPhone. These specs have appeared again, this time from the Chinese website EXPReview, which also published an image of several iPhone 5S chassis’ lined up and plastic wrapped.

iPhone 5S

The chassis’ featured in the image look essentially the same as the iPhone 5, mirroring what we saw in the leaked production shots of the handset on July 17th. In the leak, a second shot of the chassis was also published, which shows the inside of the shell with its grooves, as well as a shot of the rear panel. You can see it for yourself below. This isn’t the first time this particular image has made an appearance.

Some of the earlier rumors that had surfaced about the iPhone 5S stated that Apple was looking into a larger display for its new iPhone models, but this latest leak collaborates what we heard a couple weeks ago: that the iPhone 5S will feature the same panel as the iPhone 5. As such, it’ll be a 4-inch IGZO with a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels.

Reportedly, users will be seeing the same A6 chip put in the iPhone 5S, bringing with it a faster clock speed than previously available, as well as 2GB of RAM. There’s also said to be a dedicated quad-core GPU, and NFC connectivity, which we’ve heard previously. The rear camera is said to be a 12-megapixel sensor with a dual-LED flash.

Rumor has had it that production of the iPhone 5S would start this month, and the image of the chassis’ seem to substantiate that. As always, take the specifications with a healthy grain of salt, but thus far they match up with some other recent leaks that surfaced this month. You can check out other iPhone 5S details that have leaked in the timeline below.
