Market Research Indicates Fall In iPhone Market Share

Market Research Indicates Fall In iPhone Market Share

The two new iPhones, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5S, which were released late last year might have bumped up Apple’s smartphone sales, but appears that even they could not stop the smartphone’s market share from falling down. Kantar Worldpanel ComTech has released the latest figures which indicate that in the three months ending November 2013, Apple’s smartphone market share dropped in almost all regions as compared to the same time back in 2012. On the other hand, both Android and Windows Phone market share grew during the same period. Apple is down almost 9.9 percent in the U.S. whereas Android and Windows Phone are up 8 percent and 2.1 percent respectively.

Windows Phone was able to perform particularly well in Europe where its now the third largest OS with over 10 percent of the market share, double than what it commanded just last year. Dominic Sunnebo, insight director at Kantar, said that despite strong sales of its new iPhones, Apple found it increasingly hard to post year-on-year market share gains due to “resurgent performances” by LG, Sony and Nokia. Japan is the only market where Apple closed out on top with over 69 percent of the smartphone market share. This doesn’t come as a surprise, given the fact that Japan is one of Apple’s fastest growing markets.

BlackBerry Files Lawsuit Against Typo Over Keyboard Design

BlackBerry Files Lawsuit Against Typo Over Keyboard DesignAbout a month ago we reported on an interesting iPhone accessory called the Typo, which was basically a case for the iPhone that gave it a physical keyboard. What helped the device gain more attention was the fact that it was partially funded by celebrity and television host, Ryan Seacrest, who invested in the company and its products.

While the Typo case does seem like a great idea, unfortunately its design is reminiscent of BlackBerry’s keyboard which is used prominently in the company’s handsets, such as the BlackBerry Q10, for example, which is why it does not come as a complete surprise to learn that BlackBerry has decided to sue Typo over the alleged infringement of BlackBerry’s keyboard design. Apple To Release 4.7″ And 5.7″ iPhones This Year, According To Foxconn Sources [Rumor]

Apple To Release 4.7 And 5.7 iPhones This Year, According To Foxconn Sources [Rumor]We have been hearing the rumors that later this year, Apple is expected to launch a new iPhone with a much larger display, specifically that of the 4.7” display, and another of the 5.7” display. Well according to a recent report published in China, multiple Foxconn insiders have apparently revealed that both these device display rumors are indeed true, although given that this is hardly official information, do take it with a grain of salt for now. The insiders have also revealed that both these alleged iPhone models will also come with a biometric sensor which we can only assume they are referring to Touch ID, Apple’s latest iPhone feature that recently made its way into the iPhone 5s.

It was only back in 2012 that Apple finally increased the size of its iPhone displays with the iPhone 5 and it did take a while for developers to catch up in terms of updating their apps to fit the new display. While we expect that Apple will eventually increase its display size, would they be making such a dramatic jump from 4” to 4.7”, and more importantly to 5.7”, thus entering the phablet space and compete with the likes of Samsung? Not completely out of the question, but definitely a little far-fetched as well. In any case we expect Apple to launch new iPhones later this year, presumably in the fall of 2014 as they typically have for the past couple of years, but until then, take it with a grain of salt.

Need an iPhone Relocker for your iBrick?

This article was written on September 28, 2007 by CyberNet.

Apple warned several days ago that it was possible that the latest update to the iPhone could brick unlocked phones, but most people took it as a scare tactic. Unfortunately for them, Apple was right and many of the modified phones no longer work. Fortunately though, not all of the unlocking software causes problems, and the update from Apple is optional.

Not only are modified phones having issues, iPhone owners that have never altered their phones are also reporting issues after installing the update. Some of these unaltered phones simply won’t work anymore while other users are reporting that their contact info, photos and music are getting deleted. Another big issue that iPhone owners are having is that any 3rd party apps that they installed no longer work. Regarding the 3rd party apps, TUAW says, “If you somehow managed to upgrade while keeping your iPhone apps intact–I have yet to hear a confirmation of this happening, and I kinda doubt it can happen — congratulations. Everyone else is out of luck.”

While this update is optional, it’s a pretty big one. Changes include:

    • iTunes Wi-Fi Music store (probably the biggest change)
    • Louder speaker phone and receiver volume
    • Home button double-click functionality
    • Double-tap spacebar to intelligently insert period and space
    • Apple Bluetooth headset battery status now appears in iPhone Status bar
    • Support for TV Out
    • EDGE/GPRS can now be manually turned on and off
    • Adjustable alert volume

    Need an iPhone Relocker?

So now the question is, what do you do with your iBrick? If you didn’t alter your phone and it doesn’t work, take it back to Apple to get a replacement. If you unlocked your phone, unfortunately you’re out of luck for now.  Your phone is not covered by the warranty anymore, and you’ll need to wait for an iPhone relocker to get released.  The iPhone Dev Team which released a version of iUnlock has said that they will provide a tool within the next week that will allow you to restore your iPhone to a “factory-like-state” – or in other words, locked to the AT&T network.
