Most smartphone cases strive to provide as much protection for your device as possible without adding too much bulk or extra weight. But that’s not the approach Bandai has taken with this monstrosity. Squarely targeted at die-hard Batman fans, this case is a perfect replica of the Tumbler Batmobile featured in Christopher Nolan’s films, but designed to protect your iPhone—not the Dark Knight.
One of the biggest growth markets in the smartphone and mobile industry is China. A lot of smartphone makers are specifically targeting China, including Apple with its iPhone devices. Word has surfaced that China Mobile will be launching its 4G service on December 18. The service is tipped to launch with the iPhone 5s and […]
It’s not that it’s hard to plug in a wire to charge your iPhone, it’s just not that convenient. It would be much more convenient if all you needed to do to charge your iPhone was place it on a charge plate and walk away. A project called iQi Mobile for iPhone has recently reached […]
iPhone User Stats Reveal…
Posted in: Today's ChiliThis article was written on April 03, 2008 by CyberNet.
We know that the iPhone has had a pretty big impact since it launched, but we haven’t really seen the details of the impact it has made on the public. A recent article over at the Apple Blog on Fortune’s site discussed findings from a survey that was conducted where 460 iPhone users in the United States were randomly selected and then surveyed over the use of their iPhone. There’s a very detailed report of findings that you’re free to go over if you’d like, however we’re going to take a look at just a few of several interesting facts to come from this survey:
- Email is the #1 data function used on the iPhone (the reading of email, not writing)
- 1/3 of iPhone users carry around a second phone
- 1/4 of iPhone users say their phone is displacing a notebook computer
- The iPhone leads people to change carriers
- AT&T is making big bucks from the iPhone
First on the list is that email is the number one data function used on the iPhone. Once you get the email set-up it’s easily accessible and convenient. More people use email on the iPhone than use text messaging which comes somewhat as a surprise given that about half of iPhone owners are under the age of 30 (we know how much the younger crowd uses text messaging!).
Second on the list is that 1/3 of iPhone users carry around a second phone. Our guess is that the iPhone is used for personal use while the second phone is for work purposes. We’ve talked before about how the iPhone is great for personal use, and up until recently, wasn’t the top choice for the corporate world. Thanks to the changes Apple recently made by adding support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, the trend might be changing and perhaps users could get by with carrying only one phone in the future.
This next fact is really hard for us to believe – 1/4 of iPhone users say their phone is displacing a notebook computer. The report reads, “28% of iPhone users surveyed said strongly that they often carry their iPhone instead of a notebook computer.” Now we understand that the iPhone, Smartphones and BlackBerry’s are pretty amazing, but carrying it instead of a notebook just doesn’t seem right unless the only purpose for carrying the laptop was to check mail.
Two of the last facts we found interesting were that the iPhone leads people to change carriers, and AT&T is making big bucks from the iPhone. According to the survey, about half of iPhone users ended up changing carriers when they got the iPhone because as we know, here in the U.S. you have to subscribe to AT&T if you want an iPhone. This leads us to wonder how many of those people paid early termination fees? The result of all of these people changing carriers to get an iPhone on top of users that were already subscribed to AT&T is that AT&T is making big bucks. The estimate is that their gross service revenue has increased by about $2 billion per year! And yes, that’s billion and not million.
To wrap this up, take a look at the graph below which shows how often people use their iPhone for different functions like listening to music, connecting to the Internet via WiFi, and more:
Thanks for the tip Omar!

Dropbox has rolled out a redesign for the iPad and iPhone, something it says was inspired by the latest iteration of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 7. The design is simplified extensively, and is pretty streamlined in appearance, with a lot of contrast in the elements and a lot of white space. The update is […]
Android app shoppers have long had the luxury of watching video trailers on Google Play, but their iOS counterparts have had to be content with static images on the App Store. Apple’s portal just got livelier, though, as MacStories has noticed what may be the first App Store video clip. UK residents who visit the “featured” section of the store now see a trailer for Clumsy Ninja alongside the usual promo graphics and app icons. This isn’t necessarily a sign of things to come — other regions don’t see the trailer just yet, and it’s not present within Clumsy Ninja‘s app page. With that said, we won’t be shocked if App Store sizzle reels become commonplace.

Dropbox may be late to the iOS 7 app update party, but it’s making up for lost time with an abundance of new features in the just-launched version 3.0 release for Apple’s platform. The refresh brings the expected iOS 7-friendly look and includes AirDrop, making it easy to share links or whole files with nearby friends. It’s also easier to send files to other apps or save videos to the device library, and iPad owners can quickly open files in a full-screen view. If your cloud storage revolves around Dropbox, we’d strongly recommend swinging by the App Store for an upgrade.

A federal jury ordered that Samsung must pay Apple $290 million for copying iPhone features.
Posted in: Today's ChiliA federal jury ordered that Samsung must pay Apple $290 million for copying iPhone features. This is far less than the original ruling by a judge for $1.05 billion but probably won’t be the final figure as Samsung is expected to appeal. Again.
China Mobile is the world’s largest mobile carrier with more than 700 million subscribers, however it has never officially carried the iPhone. This we’ve heard countless rumors that the new iPhones might finally be launched on China Mobile, but so far no announcement has been made. China Mobile is going to unveil a new brand partner on December 18th, and while it hasn’t said who that partner is, rumors have started circulating once again that perhaps that day might finally bring the iPhones on China Mobile.
A China Mobile executive tells The Wall Street Journal that the carrier is ready to start its 4G service, however China has not issued 4G licenses as yet. Apple has already received the required regulatory approval for the iPhones to run on China Mobile’s network, so its now up to the carrier to finally launch these smartphones. It hasn’t been revealed when 4G licenses are going to be issued, however rumor has it that they might be issued by next week, but China hasn’t officially commented on this rumored time frame. Marvin Lo, an analyst at Mizuho Securities in Hong Kong, predicts that as many as 10 percent of China Mobile’s 700 million subscribers might switch over to the iPhones when they’re launched. This would result into 70 million new customers in China for Apple, which would without a doubt benefit from it.
