Apple iPod media events, hardware changes nowhere to be found this year

For the first year ever, Apple held no special media events for any of its iPod line of products. Since its induction in 2001, the iPod has received some form of public promotional treatment every year. It also underwent some hardware changes–sometimes major, sometimes minor–every year, but not in 2013. This could signal an eventual […]

Apple RED contributions applauded by Bono as “leading the crew”

When you’ve got a company that sells products as successfully as Apple, there’s a good chance a group like RED comes knocking at your door at some point or another. For Apple, that time came quite a few years ago – and here in 2013, RED spokesperson Bono has given Apple a round of applause […]

iPod touch, nano, shuffle “Space Gray” means no Autumn reboot

It would appear that a reboot of each of the iPod devices graced with color have been given a shade change this week thanks to the iPhone 5s. The iPod touch, iPod nano, and iPod shuffle have been given “Space Gray” to match the iPhone 5s’ newest tone. This suggests that while past years have […]

Apple goes Bounce with new iPod ad

Apple has launched its new ad campaign for the latest iPod line, kicking off with a catchy thirty second commercial called “Bounce” showing the 5th-gen iPod touch and the 7th-gen iPod nano. The clip shows the two new iPods – and their unchanged shuffle sibling – being suitably enthusiastic about music, keeping to Apple’s now-traditional theme of a more playful and less educational attitude to commercials for the media player range.

The two new iPods were unveiled alongside the iPhone 5 last month, with the new iPod touch having the same 4-inch display as the latest iPhone, along with a new 5-megapixel camera. It’s also the first touch to be available in multiple colors.

As for the iPod nano, that’s undergone another significant design change, growing a larger touchscreen and regaining video playback support. It also has a new UI, though it’s still not running the full version of iOS as on the iPod touch and iPhone.

Shipments of iPod touch preorders began earlier this week, and ours is already on the test bench – you can find some of our first impressions here. Online orders are still listed as being delivered sometime in October.

“Bounce” Along To Apple’s Latest iPod TV Ad

Screen Shot 2012-10-10 at 10.11.53 PM

If iPods could dance, it would look a lot like this new commercial Apple has just posted to its website. The ad shows a plethora of colorful iPod touch, iPod nano, and iPod shuffles bouncing around.

In fact, the ad itself is called “Bounce.”

There’s plenty to be proud about with Apple’s latest generation iPods, especially the 5th gen touch with a 4-inch Retina display, Siri, and a more powerful A5 chipset. But in this ad, Apple’s chosen to play the color card, as the entirely new family of iPods now comes in a variety of color flavors.

Perhaps the next ads will focus on theiPod Nano‘s resurrected display or Siri’s presence on the all-new iPod touch.

For now, get down to Willy Moon’s “Yeah Yeah” and don’t forget to put a little bounce in your step.

Apple’s new iPod touch, nano and shuffle now up for pre-order on Amazon

Apple's new iPod touch, nano and shuffle now up for preorder on Amazon

Sure, all the talk of late is about Apple’s shiny new iPhone 5, but let’s not forget the company also unveiled a slew of fresh iPods back at the Yerba Buena Center this past week. And while the Cupertino outfit’s had the music-friendly lineup for pre-order on its website from day one, folks can now start placing orders through Amazon as well. The only bad news is the revamped iPod touch shows an estimated shipping time of 3-5 weeks, while the “renanoed” nano and the tiny, colorful shuffle are both expected to be shipped in 2-5 weeks. As far as pricing goes, the MSRP tags are the same as Apple’s — though there is a better chance you could get them a bit quicker thanks to one of Amazon’s renowned shipping options. Either way, you’ll find ’em all at the source link below.

Tim Cook’s Annual iPhone Gymboree didn’t just give us a slick 4-inch, iPhone 5 with LTE—we got a beautiful new iPod Nano, a new version of iTunes, an upgraded iPod touch, plus tons more loot. Here’s everything you need to know about the gadgets you’ll be lining up to buy next week and beyond. More »

iPod Touch and nano Apple Event wrap-up

Instead of calling it “iPhone Day” we’re just going to call it Apple day. Today Apple took the stage and got everyone excited over the brand new 4-inch iPhone 5. Then in a flash we were talking about iPod Touch and Nano’s. Many speculated new iPod devices were coming, but most said they’d be at a later date. Today however Apple unveiled an awesome new 4-inch iPod Touch 5th generation, and a new and improved nano. We have pictures and all the details below.

Apple surprised everyone when they announced the brand new 5th gen iPod Touch complete with almost everything we love about the iPhone 5. The new iPod Touch gets the same 326 ppi 4-inch Retina Display, as well as that awesome new brushed aluminum design — no more chrome to get covered in scratches. For full specs and details about the fastest, tallest, and thinnest iPod yet you’ll want to check out our iPod Touch announcement post.

The new iPod Touch is up on Apple.com right this minute and pre-orders start on September 14th. You can get their 32GB iPod Touch in five excellent colors (as shown above) for only $299, then the 64GB model will run you $399. The previous generation iPod Touch has seen a $50 price cut on all models too if you don’t want that beautifully large screen and new dual-core processor — but you should. Apple didn’t confirm the release date but the new device will be shipping in mid October.

That was the star of the show in terms of iPod stuff, but Apple also announced new colors for the original shuffle, as well as a brand new “renanoed” iPod nano for just $149. Yup I just said renanoed as that is exactly what Apple is calling this refresh. Both the new iPod models have the new lightning dock connector, and the new nano is smaller than ever — while getting a bigger screen.

This time around the nano looks more like a mini iPhone. Here you’ve got the “thinnest iPod nano we’ve ever created”, Apple says, with a 38% thinner body at 5.4mm. You also have a home button just like the iPod Touch and iPhone, and a giant button on the left side for play, pause, forward, back, and volume adjustments. The screen has been boasted up to 2.5-inches and is capable of the usual widescreen video viewing. The nano has the same new aluminum design and will also be available in a wide array of colors as we see above. The all new iPod nano will be available for pre-order on September 14th as well, and will ship in October. You can get the 16GB model starting at just $149.

Then we heard about a newly redesigned iTunes, as well as the new earbuds Apple is calling EarPods. For everything Apple today you won’t want to miss our detailed and thorough Apple Portal. Then if you’d like an all-in-one surely you’ll need to take a peek at all of our iPhone 5 coverage. Lastly if you like what you’re seeing here is our iPod Touch hands-on! Do you like the new iPod offerings, or will you just be waiting for the iPad Mini?

iPod shuffle updated with much-needed new hues

iPod shuffle updated with much needed new hues

It’s been quite a while since the Shuffle has been updated, but we’re happy to say that Apple has shown the tiniest of its music players some much needed love. There’s only one change here, but it’s by far the most important — colors! Now the tiny PMPs will match their revamped “iTouch” brothers. Just, you know, with much less functionality. There’s even a soft and subtle pink model for all those ladies out there that love being pandered to and a Project (RED) version for the socially conscious. The latest generation of the shuffle should start shipping today.

Check out all the coverage at our iPhone 2012 event hub!

New iPod Shuffles Are Like Old iPod Shuffles [IPod Shuffle]

Apple brought a whole gang of new iPods to its event today in San Francisco, the third of which is a refreshed Shuffle. The new guy isn’t all that different from its predecessor, save for five new colors. It costs $50 for 2GB. A boring non-update, unless you are a multi-colored gadget enthusiast. More »
