Apple has always had a “clearance items” section on their site which includes products that are discounted for some reason or another, but it hasn’t always included some of the deals that they’re currently offering.  If you’re considering buying an iPod and you don’t care about having the latest generation, you’ll certainly want to checkout what they have.

Just glancing at the list, I noticed that they have the iPod U2 Special Edition (30 GB, Black) new, for $179.99. Considering that this iPod used to sell for $329, it’s quite the deal.  Sure it’s considered to be an “older” edition (the 5th… and they’re currently selling 6th generation), but the value of it could potentially rise in the future since it’s a collector’s item. It offers up to 14 hours of battery life (14 hours of music or 3 1/2 hours of video), and has the autographs of each U2 band member on the back.

I’d say the U2 iPod is definitely the best deal on there, but they do have another decent deal on there for the 8GB iPod Nano.  It’s the previous generation once again, and it’s only available in black or red, but it’s priced at $149. The new iPod Nano is currently priced at $199 for the 8GB model so you could save yourself $50 bucks.

Apple had quite the day yesterday as they announced when iOS 7 would be released as well as the new iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S. The iPhone 5C would come in a wide variety of colors, while the iPhone 5S would come in gold, silver and space grey. While we were busy gawking at the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s, Apple was quietly expanding the reach of its AppleCare+ extended support program. The service is now available in France, Italy and the UK, giving locals two years of iOS and iPod hardware support (including two accident claims) beyond the European requirements. Customers pay £79 (€99 in Europe) to cover an iPad or iPhone, and £49 (€59) to safeguard an iPod. Unfortunately, the expansion comes at a cost for Americans — Apple is quietly hiking its AppleCare+ accident repair fee in the US from $49 to $79. While that’s still cheaper than regular service, it’s expensive enough that some may simply prefer to take better care of their gadgets. May we suggest a case?
