We have been following the efforts by NASA and astronauts on the ISS to repair the coolant system issues that have plagued the ISS. NASA ordered a spacewalk to fix … Continue reading
Astronauts today completed the first spacewalk to repair the cooling system on the International Space Station. The spacewalk went off without a hitch. In fact, it was so efficient, the … Continue reading
It’s no lazy Saturday on the International Space Station: astronauts Rick Mastracchio and Michael Hopkins have just begun the first of three spacewalks to fix a faulty cooling loop on the outside of the ISS. And you can watch it live.
Earlier this month we mentioned that the ISS had a failure in one of its cooling systems that might require a spacewalk to fix. NASA has now ordered that spacewalk … Continue reading
It seems that the International Space Station’s internal cooling system is having problems. While the astronauts are not in danger, ground teams had to move critical electrical systems over to the second loop and turn off other non-critical parts of the station.
You may yawn "oh, it’s just another boring space station time-lapse movie—meh!" and don’t watch this video, but that would be a big mistake. This is, by far, the most breathtaking time-lapse from space I’ve ever seen. It even has a comet flying through. Goosebumps.
This might look like the start of a scene from Gravity, but you’re actually looking at three nanosatellites—known as Cubesats—which have just been released in space.
I’ve never seen the International Space Station at "night," when astronauts and cosmonauts go to sleep, so when I saw that I immediately though "that’s so damn cool!" "The dots near the hatch point to Soyuz if we have an emergency," says astronaut Mike Hopkins.
Where were you when the ISS launched its first module in November of 1998? Some of us watched, others were in school, still other weren’t even alive yet. Either way, it’s hard to believe that today is the International Space Station—the largest cooperative science project ever—is celebrating its 15h birthday today.
The rumble of power just got stronger and more insistent as we heard the countdown in Russian through our headsets and then, "Pusk." Liftoff.
