Apple TV Software Update 6.0 Brings iCloud Airplay And iTunes Radio

Over the past few weeks it has been consistently rumored that Apple is going to make a TV related announcement in the coming months. At first it was said that perhaps a new Apple TV might be unveiled alongside the new iPhones on September 10th. That didn’t happen, then it was said that the company will release a new software update for the existing set-top box on September 18th, alongside iOS 7. Well, Apple has indeed released Apple TV software update 6.0, a few days after it was rumored to go live. It also brings the features it was expected to.

First up is iCloud AirPlay. The feature lets users stream content that they own, such as TV shows, movies and music, on an Apple TV that isn’t configured with their Apple ID. What this means is that a user can stream a movie to a friend’s Apple TV, without having to first enter their iTunes credentials in the set-top box. A connected iOS device, which is configured with that Apple ID, will be required to provide the wireless authentication required for content streaming. iTunes Radio, Apple’s new music streaming service, also comes to the Apple TV via this update. Last but not the least, Apple TV software update 6.0 enables users to access purchases from iTunes Music Store and photos from a shared Photo Stream as well as sync their podcasts.

iTunes 11.1 Released, iTunes Radio Is Now Live

Apple has just released the latest version of its desktop music software. iTunes 11.1 is now available for download, with it, the company’s new music streaming service has finally gone live for the public. iTunes Radio was first announced back at WWDC 2013 in June. Its quite similar to Pandora, some have even termed it as a strong rival for Pandora. Later today when iOS 7 is rolled out to the public, iTunes Radio will also go live on millions of iOS devices around the world.

iTunes Radio resides within iTunes 11.1. Users can choose from 250 pre-set stations, they also have the ability to create their own stations by punching in the name of an artist or song. Another new feature in the latest iTunes release is Genius Shuffle, it basically provides a way for users to listen to songs that “go great together.” Clicking Genius Shuffle every time initiates a fresh shuffle of the music so that users have something new to listen to. There’s also the ability to create Podcast Stations, that stations will automatically be refreshed when a podcast is updated with a new episode. Last, but definitely not the least, iTunes 11.1 brings support to sync content to iOS devices running iOS 7. iTunes 11.1 can be downloaded immediately through Apple’s website.

Apple Reportedly Looking For Music Genre Experts For iTunes Radio Programming

Apple Reportedly Looking For Music Genre Experts For iTunes Radio Programming

With the launch of the iOS 7, Apple will introduce iTunes Radio to its mobile devices. The feature is expected to be a rival to Pandora and will basically allow users to stream music via their iOS devices rather than just storing them outright on their phone. For those looking to explore new music and save space on their mobile devices, we expect iTunes Radio should be a feature worth looking to. However to make the service even better, CNET has reported that Apple is currently on the lookout for music programmers who have extensive knowledge regarding music genres such as Latin, metal, and alternative.

These programmers are expected to help with the radio programming on featured stations that play the genres mentioned above, and are expected to be tasked with selecting and promoting songs based on the releases from both major and indie music labels. The requirements Apple has set includes about five years of experience and knowledge in retail, radio, A&R, editorial, record labels, and other music-related fields, and an understanding of how the music business operates.
