Apple Refunds Customers Over “Breaking Bad” Drama

Apple Refunds Customers Over Breaking Bad DramaEarlier this month there was a bit of drama regarding Apple and the television show Breaking Bad, whereby one iTunes user sued Apple for false advertising where they had to basically pay twice to watch the last season of the television series. This is because of the way the show has been structured, with season 5 being broken into two parts, and because of this, Apple decided to sell both parts as two separate seasons. Well the good news is that if you thought Apple was just a faceless corporate entity trying to make as much money from you as possible, you might be wrong in this case as Apple has decided to refund customers who might have purchased the second half of season 5.

In an email sent out by Apple, “We apologize for any confusion the naming of “Season 5″ and “The Final Season” of Breaking Bad might have caused you. While the names of the seasons and episodes associated with them were not chosen by iTunes, we’d like to offer you “The Final Season” on us by providing you with the iTunes code below in the amount of $22.99.” Apple also notes that the credit can be used towards other purchases on the iTunes store if you decide to do so. Good on Apple, we guess.

Apple Launches Kids Section In iTunes App Store

Apple Launches Kids Section In iTunes App StoreParents if you’ve always wanted a specific section within the iTunes App Store just for kids so that you won’t have to wade through potentially adult apps before arriving at something kid appropriate, you’re in luck as Apple has finally launched a Kids category within the iTunes App Store. The category was announced back in WWDC 2013 earlier this year, but now parents will be able to access it through the App Store. This section has been designed specifically for children and parents in mind, and will come with certain restrictions that should make it harder for children to accidentally rack up thousands of dollars in in-app purchases.

One of the ways to combat this is to ask for parental permission before children are allowed to engage in commercial activity, such as purchasing in-game items and such. The apps are curated for kids and will be categorized according to what they do, such as “Create & Play”, “Shapes & Colors”, and etc. Developers who create apps for kids also need to adhere to new guidelines which prohibits them from using behavioral advertising, and are required to comply with children privacy statutes in order to collect certain personal information about children, if the app requires it.

Apart from the new UI, there are a lot of new features as well, Apple’s intention here is to make the user experience “simple, more useful and more enjoyable.” iOS 7 is compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod 5G, iPad 2, third and fourth generation iPad and the iPad mini. Both new iPhones, the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, will come with iOS 7 pre-installed when they are released on September 20th. So go ahead, download the latest iOS firmware update on your iOS device.
