iWatch Might Be Apple’s Much Rumored TV Set

iWatch Might Be Apples Much Rumored TV Set

Apple is rumored to be working on its own smartwatch which is widely known as the iWatch. What if we were to consider that the iWatch isn’t exactly a smartwatch, but instead its the name for the company’s much rumored full fledged TV set. Apple has shown obvious interest in the TV market, in an interview with NBC back in 2012, CEO TIm Cook said that TV is “an area of intense interest” for the company. Steve Jobs’ aim to build a completely integrated easy to use TV has been quoted in his biography. So what if its just a marketing ploy by the company to divert attention from the real product it is working on, something which it hasn’t made before, a HD television set. This theory is put forward by Jonny Haskins of Pixel Lounge.

Apple Reportedly In Talks With Networks Over Content For Its TV Set

Apple Reportedly In Talks With Networks Over Content For Its TV Set

Apple has long been rumored to be working on a full fledged TV set. The company hasn’t said if it plans on entering the TV market with a product of its own, though many analysts are of the view that Apple may release its TV set next year. The company is reportedly negotiating with networks and production studios over content for the TV. ESPN, HBO and Viacom are named among the companies Apple is talking to. It is unclear right now if any deals will be finalized in the near future.

The report goes on to claim that Apple might form its own pay TV service, delivering content to subscribers for a fee, essentially becoming a cable company albeit one that delivers content over the internet. It is believed that this pay TV service might be launched alongside the full fledged TV set. Apple would essentially control the entire TV experience on its new product, thus eliminating the need for customers to hook it up with a cable box from another company. Apple has reportedly declined to comment on this rumor and so has Viacom. ESPN spokesman Chris LaPlaca has confirmed that they’ve had talks, but he refers to them as “very, very exploratory” in nature and adds that no formal discussions have taken place yet.

Apple Rumored To Be Working On ‘iTV’ Yet Again

Apple Rumored To Be Working On iTV Yet Again

Over the last few months there have been many rumors suggesting that Apple might be involved in the production of a full fledged HDTV set. The company presumably wants to increase its presence in the television market, and perhaps it can’t do that with the Apple TV, its $99 set-top box. Rumors about the HDTV have waned slightly in recent weeks, nevertheless, the latest comes from Taiwanese publication Economic Daily News. It is said that Apple is working with Foxconn, Innoloux, G-Tech Optoelectronics and Corning of Gorilla Glass fame for its HDTV which is widely referred to as the iTV.

The report further suggests that Apple will release iTV in the first half of 2014. 55″ and 60″ models will reportedly be released first. Foxconn is expected to manufacture the device and display panels might be provided by Innolux. Previous rumors suggest that Apple might introduce a whole new way of interacting with a TV set, some believe that Siri-like voice based technology will debut with Apple’s first ever conventional TV set. Information about pricing is not available right now. The company itself has kept a lid on any information regarding its TV plans, be it another set-top box or a full fledged TV set.

Samsung gets exclusive access to new Android ITV Player app until August 31st

Samsung will get exclusive access to ITV's Player app on its Android devices

While we’ve seen broadcasters and other content providers launch smart TV apps with only one manufacturer, ITV’s decided to give Samsung rare exclusive Android access to its ITV Player. The Korean outfit announced it would get the refreshed app all to itself until August 31st, meaning Brits who use the previous, Android-agnostic ITV Player will have to forego the new version until that time. The update now includes landscape navigation support for smartphones and tablets, along with 3G/4G streaming, improved video playback and support for older versions of Android. ITV says it’s offering the app exclusively to Samsung “for an initial period while we endeavor to optimize and improve the experience before releasing to other device manufacturers.” Oddly enough, Samsung didn’t mention that beta-testing aspect in its own PR, which is right after the break.

Apple Has Got Many Surprises In The Pipeline, Says Tim Cook

Apple Has Got Many Surprises In The Pipeline, Says Tim Cook

A little while back Apple announced financial results for Q2, 2013. It posted a $9.5 billion profit and sold some 37 million iPhones. The speculation surrounding its Q2 results is finally over. Some analysts believed that we would be seeing a drop in iPad shipments, but they have collectively risen a whopping 65% as compared to Q2, 2012. During the conference call with analysts Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Apple is working on a number of surprises and also hinted on the exciting potential of new product categories.

He obviously did not specifically mention what these new products are, though if we take a look at some recent rumors, the products could either be an iOS powered iWatch or an iTV. Tim Cook said that Apple’s teams are hard at work on amazing new hardware, software and services, and that they can’t wait to unveil them in Fall 2013 and in to 2014. On the company’s declining stock price, Cook said that tough it has been very frustrating for all of them, Apple stays strong nonetheless, adding that Apple’s primary goal will always be to create the most innovative products.

Apple Not Releasing Anything ‘New’ In 2013 [Economist]

Apple Not Releasing Anything New In 2013 [Economist]

Like all days, Apple has been in the news today as well, though primarily because its shares have reached their lowest point since 2011 and that iPad mini shipments are expected to plunge by 30%. Now Haydn Shaughnessy of Forbes is reporting that the company won’t exactly been releasing anything ‘new’ this year. He believes that entirely ‘new’ revolutionary products such as Macbook Air, iPad and iPhone were back when they were first announced, can’t be expected from the company. Rumored revolutionary products such as the iTV and iWatch, according to him, won’t be released this year. He cites this as the reason why there are more iPhone 5S rumors these days as opposed to rumors about these devices.
