Jeep Bed Blueprints Will Have You Counting Sheep in Your Jeep

Not to sound like an old man or anything, but when I was young you had a mattress and a frame to rest it on. We didn’t need anything fancy. Kids nowadays. Bah. They can sleep on anything they want. Like this Jeep Wrangler.

Count sheep while you sleep in your Jeep, while not far away, the boogeyman creeps. Kids will be dreaming of some off-road fun when they sleep in this bed. Etsy seller Jeepbed will sell you a template for $29.95(USD) that provides step-by-step instructions for you to make this bed. It should cost about $250 in materials – plus an ample dose of your time and effort to build one.

Just make sure the brakes are on. And don’t put junior to sleep outdoors near a hill. That could be dangerous.

Custom Willys Jeep Rat Rod Eats Dirt for Breakfast

What do you get when someone decides to “rat-rod” a Willys Jeep from 1945? Rat rods are custom cars that imitate and exaggerate early hot rods. I have to say that despite its low ground clearance, this particular rat looks like it could go toe to toe with dune buggies.

The team at Randy Ellis Design were inspired by the 1945 Willys Jeep. This kind of Jeep was used by the US Army in World War II. However, these guys built their vehicle from scratch with a custom fiberglass shell. There are some authentic Willys parts throughout the build, but it has plenty of modern features like an air bag suspension that gives it 7-inches of travel. It’s powered by a 1977 Chevy 350 V8, which is coupled with a 3-speed automatic transmission for plenty of torque.

This ride does look pretty awesome, though I wonder how it would fare in a race against a dedicated sport UTV like the Polaris RZR.

Cylon Jeep, or KITT’s Long Lost Cousin?

One of the things you learn in the world of geekdom is that any time you slap some horizontally-chasing red LEDs into something, it’s instantly transformed into Cylon technology. But I always thought if you did it to the front of a vehicle, it’s a reference to Knight Rider’s K.I.T.T. Well, either way, this hack is pretty cool.

DIYer Chris Knight (no not Peter Brady) got his hands on a 25 “pixel” LED light strip and decided he needed a place to install it. What better place but the front grill of his silver Jeep Wrangler?

They’re controlled by Cool Neon’s new Total Control Lighting Developer’s Shield Box which is a fancy name for an all-in-one programmable Seeduino box. It took a whole bunch of drilling to get the lights installed in the grill, but it looks pretty slick now that it’s complete. Check it out in action in the video clip below:

As a bonus, the LEDs he used can actually change colors, so here’s his Jeep putting on a little light show:

Whether you think it looks like a Cylon or K.I.T.T., you owe it to yourself to check out the full build details over on Instructables. Now about that hood, Chris…
