Wake up Energized with a Zelda Life Bar on Your Headboard

By the time you go to bed at night, you’re pretty worn down from the day’s events. Your life bar must be close to zero. Some sleep will help and that life bar will be full in the morning. If you want a visual reminder of this, just add a pixelated The Legend of Zelda life bar to your headboard.

These 8-bit hearts were attached to a wood headboard with screws and they make this bed look extra geeky. To make one yourself, just make a pattern of the hearts, then use a jigsaw to cut them out of wood. After that, just add paint. You now have a cool life bar on your headboard.

Pyle Hi-Speed HD is an Action Camera on a Budget

Pyle has been producing audio gear for a number of years. Audio isn’t all the company is about though, it also has a line of ruggedized action cameras. The company has unveiled a new action camera called the Hi-Speed HD is able to record video in full HD resolution.

pyle hi speed hd camera 1 620x413magnify

The Hi-Speed camera can capture video at 30, 60 or 120fps, so I suppose that makes it a “high speed” camera – though just barely. It supports video resolutions up to 1080p, though at only 30fps. Resolution drops to 720p for 60fps video, and 480p for 120fps. The camera has a 12-megapixel sensor and can shoot still photos with a time-lapse mode.

Images are stored to microSD cards up to 32 GB in capacity. The camera also has a 2.4-inch touchscreen on the rear, four times digital zoom, and a mini-HDMI output. Another cool feature of the camera is that it ships with a Wi-Fi remote control. That remote control allows the user to turn the camera on and off remotely.

Power for the camera comes from an internal rechargeable battery good for over two hours of recording per charge. The camera uses CMOS image sensor technology and ships with a USB cable and car charger. The camera also comes with splash proof case and various mounting clips. Des[ote what the Pyle website says, retail price for the camera is a surprisingly low $99.99. Pyle offers the camera in black, blue, gray, red, or silver. This might be the perfect camera for someone who really wants a GoPro, but can’t afford the $300 and up price. Though without one in hand to review, I can’t speak for its image or video quality.

Fan Made Titanfall Titan Mech Action Figure: That Was Fast

Titanfall is an upcoming online multiplayer FPS for the Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. It seems to be one of the better launch titles for the Xbox One, putting an emphasis on agility and speed while rockin’ some sweet-looking mecha. A Japanese custom toy maker appears to have the same strengths. He managed to make a replica of the game’s giant robot, even though the game isn’t out yet.

I could very well be mistaken, but I’m guessing the toy maker uses the moniker nammkkyys. What I gleaned from his blog is that he based his replica on the publicly available trailers and images of Titanfall, as well as the large Titan bust that was shown at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. What makes his feat even more impressive is that he made it from scratch; it’s not a mod of an existing action figure. I think he took a few liberties here and there, but overall he did a great job. The action figure is about 9.5″ tall, which by the toy maker’s estimate makes it a 1/30 scale replica.

Check out nammkkyys’ blog for more images of the impressive Titan action figure. Be sure to check his previous posts to see his work in progress images; those will give you a better idea of his skill and dedication. Seeing as Respawn Entertainment i.e. Titanfall’s developer itself was the one who spread the word about nammkkyys’ work, I wouldn’t be surprised if he scores a free copy of the game for his work.

Explore the Lamborghini Museum Using Google Maps

Google Maps has been adding an ever-increasing amount of Street View imagery to its service allowing you to actually see the streets you’ll be driving, biking and walking on when you’re going somewhere. I think most of us probably use Street View imagery more to see our own houses or to see if we were caught on the Street View cameras more than anything else. One of the cool things that Google has been doing is allowing some businesses to offer interior views to prospective customers.

Lamborghini has announced that it has teamed up with Google Maps to offer an exclusive interior view of its museum located in Sant’Agata Bolognese. You may not ever get to travel to Italy and see the museum firsthand, but you can explore both floors and all 1500 square meters virtually from your smartphone, tablet, or web browser.

Inside the museum, Lamborghini has all sorts of famous cars from its street-legal car line, as well as prototypes, limited editions, and racing cars. One of the coolest features is that you can actually check out the interior of some extremely limited edition Lambo models including the Reventon, Estoque, and Sesto Elemento.

New Video Shows Stratos Skydive from Jumper’s Point of View

Just over a year ago on October 14, 2012, daredevil Felix Baumgartner made history with his daring jump from 128,000 feet – setting a record for the world’s highest skydive. Baumgartner exceeded speeds of 825 mph and broke the sound barrier without the use of an aircraft. One of the coolest things about the jump was that there were cameras everywhere to capture the record setting feat.

red bull stratos1magnify

Video footage captured by some of those cameras has already been viewed, but there were cameras attached to the balloon and to Baumgartner himself, much of which hasn’t been shared publicly. The footage from the cameras attached to the balloon and Baumgartner have now been put together and used to create a documentary commemorating the entire launch. To go along with the upcoming documentary, Red Bull has now offered up footage of the jump from the Baumgartner’s perspective.

The video includes embedded statistics such as air speed, elevation, and biometrics. Check out the 9-minute-plus clip above to see this epic feat from the jumper’s point of view. Be sure to set the video to 1080p and full-screen mode for the best experience. It starts out chaotically, but gradually lulls you into a strange calmness as Baumgartner gets closer to the Earth.

DIY Star Wars Snowflake Patterns: Use the X-Acto, Luke.

We’ve seen several different Star Wars inspired paper snowflakes surface over the years. Some of them were laser cut and others were apparently done freehand. That meant unless you had a fancy laser cutting set up or were crafty in your own right, you probably weren’t going to make these cool snowflakes yourself. Some new Star Wars snowflakes have surfaced that are made from paper that you can make yourself.

The designs include Boba Fett, Emporer Palpatine, Nien Nunb, and Rancor as well as the AT-AT snowflake, which is my favorite. The good news here is that the designer of the snowflakes, Anthony Herrera, has offered up some patterns that you can print out and cut yourself. Of course, the prospect of all the precision cutting work makes my wrists hurt just thinking about it.

Executive Decision Maker Pro Kit: for Wishy-washy Makers

Here’s a fun project that can be scaled depending on your skill level with electronics. Like the Magic 8-ball, the Executive Decision Maker Pro lets you outsource your fate to a gadget, which is just as clueless as you are but is at least more decisive.

Press the Decide button and the EDM Pro will flash either Yes or No for four seconds; press the Reset button to clear the answer right away if you need to answer another question. You can also hold the Reset button and keep pressing the Decide button for rapid fire answers.

If you took one look at the EDM Pro and you already know pretty much how it works, then all you need to do is to get the design files from Vagrearg’s website. But if you need a bit of help, you should get Vagrearg’s ready to assemble EDM Pro kit for $57.50 (USD). The kit has all the parts you need but has an unassembled circuit board. If you’re a beginner, you should pay extra for the LED mounting guide and the assembled board.  If you’re a Physics nut, get this EDM instead.

Capsulekong Turns Your Coffee into a Game of Donkey Kong

If you drew a Venn diagram of gamers and coffee drinkers, I think you’d find there’s a pretty large intersection between the two groups. So what better way to store your coffee machine pods but in a game of Donkey Kong?

capsulekong 1 620x620magnify

Capsulekong is a wall-mountable storage solution for Nespresso drink pods, and was inspired by the classic 1980s video game. But this time, instead of barrels, Kong is rolling coffee pods at Jumpman as he tries to rescue Pauline at the top of the girders. As you load it up, the pods roll downhill – and every time you remove one, the whole thing sorta snakes down towards Jumpman.

capsulekong 2 620x413magnify

As an added bonus, this thing doesn’t look cheap. In fact, it’s made from anodized aluminum, and looks awesome. It holds exactly 50 drink pods when full, and can even hold the double-barrel shots. However, it won’t hold any flaming ones. If you’re wondering if Capsulekong will fit on your wall, it measures about 17.3″ high x 14.2″ wide x .31″ deep.

So put on your red overalls, get out your mallet and start pounding your way over to Hologramer to pick up your Capsulekong for $170(USD) today. Yes, I know that it doesn’t work with other brands of coffee pods, but I don’t care. This is enough reason for me to toss out my Tassimo and pick up a Nespresso machine instead.

Wall Torch Sconce Turns Anyone into Indiana Jones, Cave Not Included

Turn your home into a dungeon, a castle, an ancient pyramid or an olympic stadium with this cool wall sconce that looks like a torch. This is a perfect night light, because everyone knows that monsters fear torch light more than they fear light from modern light bulbs. And snakes. Snakes hate torches.

The torch light even flickers. The best part is that it doesn’t stay on the wall. It instantly switches from wall-mounted to hand-held, for impromptu adventures, since it runs on two AA batteries (not included). It even turns off automatically after 10 minutes to prevent battery drain.

Kids and adults will love this torch. So spelunk on over to ThinkGeek, where you can buy one for just $19.99(USD).

Netflix Negotiating to Offer Its Streaming Service on Cable Boxes in the US

Like many people out there, I’m a big fan of the video streaming service Netflix. It’s a great place to find something to watch when nothing is on TV and I can use it to catch up on TV series that I might’ve missed seasons of in the past. Back in September, word surfaced that Virgin Media in the UK had agreed to offer Netflix on its set top boxes to subscribers. At the time, I wished Netflix would do the same thing in the US and apparently they’re in negotiations right now to do just that.

netflix tv 620x437magnify

Word surfaced that Netflix is currently in talks to make its streaming service available on US cable providers’ set top boxes. Making Netflix available on those boxes would mean that users wouldn’t need to switch inputs or launch an application on different device to watch Netflix streaming video.

Netflix has reportedly been in talks with several pay-TV providers in the US. Reports indicate that these talks are in the early stages but two of the providers said to be in talks with Netflix are Comcast and Suddenlink Communications. One thing delaying the negotiations according to some reports is the fact that Netflix is insisting the cable providers use its technology designed to improve the delivery of streaming video. Netflix believes this to be a critical component of service to allow viewers to get the best quality possible.

While one might think that cable and satellite providers would see Netflix as a major competitor, offering the service through their delivery channels could increase the likelihood that customers will stick around instead of just going for a raw bandwidth provider.
