LEGO Go-Kart 2: Those Daring Young MOCs in Their Jaunty Jalopies

Simon Burfield should get in touch with Eric Steenstra so they can have a LEGO go-kart race. Burfield used 16 Power Functions XL motors, 8 Power Functions battery packs and 20 Exo-Force wheels to make his life-size go-kart.

It looks less sturdy than Steenstra’s bulky build, but it can carry an adult, as you’ll see in the video below.

I wonder what its top speed is. It probably has, like, 350 MyLittlePonyPower.

Sun & Cloud Digital Camera Can Be Powered Via Hand Crank: Crank & Shoot

If you know someone who refuses to type on anything but a typewriter despite being born in the mid-90s, that person will love the latest camera from the crazy folks at Superheadz. The Japanese company’s Sun & Cloud camera can be charged via USB, but it also has a solar panel and even a hand-crank to juice it up. It’s always ready to go. Your friend’s food, cat and latte foam that vaguely resembles his beard don’t stand a chance.

From the looks of it, it seems like the hand crank folds neatly into the camera’s case. The camera can also record video and uses micro SD and micro SDHC cards for storage. Finally, what’s a hipster camera without some filters? The Sun & Cloud’s 15 built-in filters has your bicycle-loving behind covered. Judging from the sample shots below, they range from My Recommended Daily Allowance of Sadness Black & White to The Past Was Brighter Than The Future Washed Out.

You can order the Sun & Cloud camera from AC Gears for $199 (USD). But if you want to be extra hip you should buy it straight from Superheadz itself. Seriously though it could be a fun first camera for kids.

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon Comes to Nintendo 3DS Tomorrow

Nintendo is kicking off its year of Luigi with the announcement that a new video game for the Nintendo 3DS portable console will be launching this weekend. The new game is called Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. The game is a follow-up to the popular 2001 GameCube title Luigi’s Mansion.

luigis mansion dark moon 3ds

Dark Moon will follow Luigi as he explores more mansions and captures more ghosts while searching for even more treasure. The game will see Luigi exploring unique mansions with colorful 3D visuals. Each of the mansions is filled with ghosts that Luigi will capture using his special vacuum cleaner (which he clearly borrowed from the Ghostbusters.)

Players will also be able to take advantage of a number of new unique abilities to complete their missions. The goal is to find missing pieces of the Dark Moon to win the game. Individual missions in the game can be replayed to earn higher scores by collecting more treasure or by losing less health. Nintendo says that almost every object in the rooms of the mansion can be interacted with.

Nintendo plans to launch multiple games featuring Luigi this year as part of its celebration of Mario’s younger brother. You can pre-order Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon over on Amazon for $39.99(USD).

Camping Hammock Lets You Relax While You’re Roughing It – Does That Make Sense?

If you’ve never liked going camping but don’t want to sit any trips out because you might miss out on all the bonding, then here’s a sort-of compromise for you: get the Camping Hammock.

It’s basically a hammock/tent combo that will let you relax and chill out, even when you’re supposed to be roughing it.

Camping Hammock1

Of course, the point of going camping is to experience nature as it is. But there’s no sense in not enjoying it either.

This hammock is called the Lawson Blue Ridge Camping Hammock. It can be suspended between trees or erected on the ground like a traditional tent. It’s also got built-in bug netting and a rain cover to keep you dry.

They’re not just for making camping trips more bearable comfortable, either. Take it to the beach, to your family reunion, or anywhere else where you might want to get comfortable while you’re outdoors.

LG Laser TV Projection System Price and Release Date Announced

During CES, we talked a bit about LG’s new Laser TV, a new short-throw projector combined with a 100-inch screen. Despite the fact that it’s a projection system, it was still incredibly cool that it can project such a large and bright image from only 22-inches away from the scren. There were a couple things about the Laser TV that we didn’t know when it was announced during CES. Those two important tidbits of information including how much it would cost and when you could buy it.

LG has finally announced those two bits of info, and while the release date is almost upon us, sadly the price is bad news. I guess we should’ve expected anything with lasers to be expensive. The LG Laser TV will ship this April for $8,999 (USD). For that kind of money, it sure would be nice if it supported 4K resolution, but it’s “only” 1080p.

lg hecto projector

For that much money you get a 100-inch screen, the ultra short throw projector, and the projector laser illumination system with a lifespan of 25,000 hours. At least that means you won’t be replacing bulbs for a few hundred dollars a pop every few thousand hours of use as you would with a traditional projector. The projector also has integrated 20-watt speakers, Intel Wireless Display and Wi-Fi Direct capabilities. The projector also has a 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and three HDMI inputs.

Lonely Mountain Cola: If The Hobbits Made Their Own Soda…

If hobbits had their own brand of soda, it would be best to call it Lonely Mountain Cola. For those of you unfamiliar with the story, that’s a reference to the mountain which holds the hobbits’ treasure that was stolen by the greedy and wicken dragon, Smaug.

Lonely Mountain Cola

I don’t know what Hobbit-made soda would taste like, though. All I know is that they’re smaller than your average soda cans and definitely better-looking in more ways than one.

These LOTR concept soda can designs were created by the people behind the Lonely Mountain Cola Co. Facebook page, which was created to “set up as a cross-realm/inter-dimensional/multiverse experience dedicated to supporting the Dwarves of Middle-earth in their quest of getting their home back.”

Bubble Wrap Portraits: Pop Art, Literally.

Some people relieve their stress by popping bubble wrap. Others exercise their creativity and showcase their talent by creating portraits using bubble wrap. And by ‘others’, we mean artist Bradley Hart.

He probably had to buy rolls and rolls of the stuff and he clearly spent a lot of time working on his project. But I think his efforts paid off, because just take a look at what he made. This here is a bubble wrap portrait of Steve Jobs.

bubble wrap portrait 1

Not that you needed me to tell you, because you were probably able to recognize him on your own.

What Bradley did was fill syringes with certain colors of acrylic paint. He then painstakingly injected different colored paint into various bubbles on the huge sheet of bubble wrap to create his unique portraits.

Pixels on computer screens store our memories with social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The process of injecting bubble wrap with paint in order to create one coherent picture, references pixilation as a combination of 1’s and 0’s that result in an image for us to consume.

Bunny Light: Here Comes Peter Lightin’ Tail

Easter is just around the corner, so if you’re into doing more than hiding eggs and eating Peeps for the holiday, here’s something fun to add to your festive decor.

led bunny light 1

The Bunny Light is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a porcelain white bunny rabbit, but its fluffy white tail lights up. It’s made by our friends over at SuckUK, and will look cute sitting on a table or shelf long after the holiday has passed. This bunny has a cool LED light source in its tail, and is powered by USB. Though you might not want to buy two of them, as they do have a tendency to multiply quickly.

Rabbit fans can hop on over to SuckUK and grab a Bunny Light for £60 (~$91 USD). Keep in mind that it comes with a UK USB/AC adaptor in the box, so you’ll need to provide your own, or plug it into your computer.

LEGO Minifig Cake Pops: These Bricks Were Made for Eatin’

If you’ve been following Technabob for any time at all, you know that I love LEGO and I love cake. So when I saw that somebody had combined the two with such brilliance, I just had to mention it.

lego cake pops 1

These LEGO minifigs are actually edible cake pops. You know, those little bits of cake that give you just enough of a taste that your sugar addiction kicks into high gear and you need to eat 10 of them?

These cake pops were made by Cake Power Cakes, and they look like they were pretty easy to assemble. They made them by combining cake crumbs and buttercream and pressing it into a pan, then cutting out the cylindrical minifig head shapes and stacked modeling chocolate above and below them on lollipop sticks.

They then coated them in melted yellow candies for the perfect LEGO yellow gloss. Of course the tricky part was painting on all the tiny facial details. Speaking from experience, that takes real talent – especially when working with edibles.

Spread the Haterade: Hater App Lets You Share Stuff that You Hate

There’s a long-standing request for ‘Dislike’ buttons to be added on Facebook, but I’m pretty sure that won’t ever happen unless some hackers managed to hack into the social network itself. And it’s understandable. Facebook’s stock already isn’t doing really well at this point, so just imagine the dive it would take if a ‘Dislike’ feature was somehow introduced.

Given this fact, some people have decided to take it upon themselves to allow people to express their hate freely by releasing the Hater app.

hater app

Basically, it’s an app that lets people share the hate. Hopefully, they’ll hate responsibly and only use it to hate things that won’t offend too many people (since it’s a given that at least one person in the world will be offended by whatever it is someone decides to hate) – be it the weather, someone’s shoes, or the long line to the bathroom.

Users can share images of what they’re hating using the ‘Hater Camera’, or they can simply post rants about what’s bugging them. They can share the hate via Facebook or Twitter, or hate anonymously by posting via an Alter Ego.

Hater App1

The best (or worst) part? It’s free to hate. The Hater app can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store.
