Fire OS 3.1 software update hits Kindle Fire HDX and HD

This week the folks at Amazon have released the first big update to their mobile operating system since the new wave of Kindle devices in Fire OS 3.1. Good news, Kindle Fire friends.

Good news, Kindle Fire friends. Starting today, you can head on over to Amazon and download Fire OS 3.1. The new Goodreads integration is great if you’re a Goodreads user. But for everyone else, the new Second Screen is just as exciting, letting you control video on your TV with your Fire HDX.

Goodreads and Second Screen integration finally hitting Kindle Fire HD and HDX

Today marks the debut of two features we’ve been waiting for since Amazon first announced its new Kindle Fire line lo so many weeks ago. Goodreads and Second Screen integration will be rolling out to Fire HD and HDX owners over-the-air in the next couple of weeks – or you can just go to Amazon’s site and download Fire OS 3.1 right now. Goodreads brings social book reading features to the tablet, so you can rate and review books and find out what your friends are reading. Also, good news for those who like showing off their virtual bookshelves – you can actually import all of the print and e-books you’ve bought from Amazon over the years. Second Screen, meanwhile, lets you “fling” shows from your Fire to Samsung TVs and sets with a PS3 attached (PS4 support is coming before year’s end).

Also new for OS 3.1 is added enterprise support, Cloud Collections for organizing content off-device and voice diction. You can download the above in the source link below.

Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 Review: Bigger Is Still Beautiful

Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 Review

The Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 is the second half of what Amazon hopes will be a one-two knockout punch to rival tablets, sliming down the last-gen Fire HD 8.9 and boosting speed and screen resolution in the process. As we found with the 7-inch Fire HDX, that can make for a compelling slate if you’re […]

Amazon Kindles Receive Discount To Celebrate FAA’s New Rules

Amazon Kindles Receive Discount To Celebrate FAAs New Rules

After months of deliberation, the FAA finally announced last week that it is going to relax restrictions on use of personal electronic devices such as tablets and e-readers during certain phases of the flight. Delta and JetBlue have become the first airlines to allow passengers to use their personal electronic devices gate-to-gate. To celebrate the FAA’s new rules with regards to electronic device use, Amazon has decided to offer several Kindle products at a discount for one day only.

If you’ve been holding out on buying a Kindle Fire HD, Kindle Fire HDX 7 or the Kindle then today would be the perfect day to go ahead, as Amazon is offering a flat 15 percent discount on their prices. To receive the discount, customers simply need to enter the “ThnksFAA” promo code at checkout. The 15 percent discount brings Kindle Fire HDX 7′s price down to $195, Kindle Fire HD’s to $118 whereas the entry level Kindle can be purchased today for just $59. Unfortunately, the FAA love doesn’t extend to Kindle Paperwhite, Amazon’s popular e-reader. Nevertheless, its a good deal by the online retailer, one that is likely to entice quite a few customers. As previously mentioned, this promotion is only being run for one day, today.
