Kyocera Installs Solar Cycle Station For Electric Vehicles In Japan

Kyocera Installs Solar Cycle Station For Electric Vehicles In JapanKyocera has just installed what they call a “Solar Cycle Station for EV (electric vehicles)” at the headquarters of Shintec Hozumi Co., Ltd. which is located in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Kyocera designed and constructed this particular system in order for solar-generated power to juice up electric vehicles, and it also doubles up as an emergency power source in the event of a disaster such as an earthquake, helping contribute to the efficient use of clean energy as well as disaster prevention.

Kyocera’s “Solar Cycle Station” has been touted to be an environmentally friendly solar-powered recharging station, where it was first mooted to help out electric-assisted bicycles at the beginning of this decade. It was in 2012 that the company began to supply the Solar Cycle Station for EV, where it has been modified and improved to power electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Carrying the dual mission of protecting the environment and saving electricity costs, Shintec Hozumi decided to install a 230kW Kyocera solar power generating system on its headquarters’ rooftop, so that the entire building will be able to draw from at least one source of clean energy. We do hope to see such initiatives take place on a mass scale in the future, that is for sure. [Press Release]

Kyocera Verve Announced, Headed For Sprint And Boost Mobile

Kyocera Verve Announced, Headed For Sprint And Boost MobileKyocera has just announced the Verve handset that will go on sale from both Sprint and Boost Mobile. The Kyocera Verve happens to be a feature phone that will come with a traditional number pad on the front, and sports the ability to slide sideways in order to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard right under it – making it a throwback to an older era where slider phones were all the rage. Do not expect anything groundbreaking – this is a feature phone after all.

As for the hardware that can be found on the Kyocera Verve, you would have to learn how to cozy up to a 2.4” display, a 2MP camera, Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, a speakerphone, and a stereo headset jack. Wait a minute here, let me check my calendar and see whether Kyocera was stuck in a time bubble somewhere and still thought that this is 2005 or something.

Sprint claims that the Kyocera Verve has an operating system that is ideal for heavy texters, where it will be limited to CDMA 1X-Advanced and will not support LTE connectivity. Sprint is currently offering the Kyocera Verve for free, although you will have to fork out $5.42 each month for two years. I guess the Kyocera Verve will target those who think that they have no need whatsoever to jump aboard the smartphone bandwagon and want something that simply works. [Press Release]

Kyocera Brigadier Tipped For Verizon

Kyocera Brigadier Tipped For VerizonKycoera isn’t exactly a very big name when it comes to smartphones in the US, although to be fair the company has released several phones on US carriers in the past like the Kyocera Hydro Plus (pictured above) and the Kyocera Torque, just to name a few. However it seems that the Japanese company still has plans for the US and according to a post by @evleaks, a certain Kyocera Brigadier will be making its way to Verizon.

Unfortunately no word on when the Kyocera Brigadier will be arriving, how much it will cost, how it will look like, or what kind of specs it packs under the hood, but considering that Kyocera’s previously released products for the North American markets tends to be of the rugged variety, then perhaps we can look forward to something similar with the Kyocera Brigadier as well.

Kyocera’s products also tend to be on the low-mid ranged end of things so we doubt we will be able to expect some kind of super phone that will compete with the likes of recently released flagship phones from Sony, HTC, Samsung, and LG. However if you’re in the market for something affordable and durable, perhaps Kyocera could be a brand you can turn to.

In any case we’re just speculating now but do check back with us at a later date to see if there are any additional details about the Kyocera Brigadier that we might be able to provide you guys with.

KDDI Winter Smartphone Range Sees LG isai, Fujitsu Arrows Z, Kyocera Digno M, And Sharp Aquos Series DebutWho would have thought that one of these days, smartphones would have ended up like fashion statements, where there are actually phones released just in time for the winter season to match a drab colored wardrobe? Well, that seems to be the case with KDDI who has just revealed that they will be offering a bunch of new smartphones, with the LG isai leading the way. The LG isai will arrive with a 5.2” Full HD IPS display, with a Snapdragon 800 chipset being a very real probability in addition to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as the operating system of choice.

    Kyocera Torque

Kyocera Torque [CEATEC 2013] All right, I do know that the Kyocera Torque was released earlier this year, and for folks in the US, this is one handset from Sprint that has gained a reputation to be a tough device, so much so that even TV personality Bear Grylls has endorsed it in an ad campaign. Just to refresh our memories, the Kyocera Torque is a 4G LTE Android powered smartphone that will cost you $99.99 a pop from Sprint, where that is how much you will pay after sending in a $50 mail-in rebate alongside agreeing to a new 2-year contract, of course.

Back then, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was revealed to be the operating system of choice. The Kyocera Torque is one tough cookie, where it was specially built according to Military Standard 810G (MilSpec), which means that this is one smartphone that can withstand the elements, including dust, shock, vibration, solar radiation, humidity, blowing rain, low pressure, salt fog and extreme temperatures, in addition to carrying IP67 standards for dust, sprayed water and boasts of the ability to remain fully immersed in up to one meter deep for up to 30 minutes. Looks like it has gained enough “torque” to make it all the way to being the finalist in the Mobile Tech category under CEATEC 2013 Innovation Awards.

Kyocera piezoelectric film speaker delivers 180-degree sound to thin TVs and tablets (update: live photos)

Kyocera piezoelectric film speaker delivers 180degree sound to thin TVs and tablets update live photos

The thinner our devices become, the less room there is for speakers and other thicker components. Kyocera has a solution, however: it just modified its Smart Sonic Receiver conduction technology for use with conventional, over-the-air audio. The company’s new Smart Sonic Sound device still relies on a piezoelectric actuator, but vibrates against a film to generate as much volume as a regular speaker in a far thinner (under 1.5mm thick) design. The new speaker might even sound better than its traditional counterparts. It delivers full volume and quality in a 180-degree listening arc, and it’s responsive enough to recreate very subtle noises. Smart Sonic Sound is already shipping in LG’s 55-inch curved OLED TV, and Kyocera expects it to reach laptops, tablets and other devices where interior space is valuable.

Update: Our colleagues at Engadget Japanese have posted their first-hand look at Kyocera’s speaker technology, complete with a gallery of live photos; we’ve posted two of them here.

Kyocera Piezo Film Speaker Developed For TVs, PCs, Tablets

Kyocera Piezo Film Speaker Developed For TVs, PCs, TabletsKyocera is currently working on what they call “Smart Sonic Sound”, which happens to be a piezo film speaker that was specially developed for everyday consumer electronics devices such as TVs, computers and tablets. This ultra-thin, lightweight (where the medium sized model measures just 1mm thick, or should I say thin, tipping the scales at 7 grams) audio device might actually usher in an age of even slimmer TVs, computers and tablets. Of course, being slim is one thing, but how about enhancing the audio quality to a degree where it delivers a far more realistic audio experience? Sporting low directivity characteristics that will broaden the sound projection range, the Smart Sonic Sound provides 180-degree sound quality while bringing delicate and minute sounds to life.

In fact, this is the first time LG Electronics will utilize this innovative piezo actuator audio technology in their new 55” curved-screen OLED TV. You will be able to find the Smart Sonic Sound in three different sizes – large, medium and small, and we might see an expansion in its applications down the road in different digital devices, including automotive applications with strict weight requirements. What other devices would you like to see Kyocera’s Smart Sonic Sound see action in?

Kyocera Hydro Elite Unveiled By Bear Grylls

It was just yesterday when we brought you word that the Kyocera Hydro Elite is set to arrive on Verizon Wireless this 29th of August, 2013, and for those living on the East coast, that time is now. In fact, you can check out the ad above concerning the Kyocera Hydro Elite which will see famed adventurer Bear Grylls unveil the device during his off-air season.

I guess having such a character use the Kyocera Hydro Elite makes plenty of sense, especially when you consider just how hardy this particular smartphone is, being an IPX7-certified water resistant smartphone that is capable of lasting for up to 30 minutes under water, as long as it does not go beyond a meter in depth, of course. Other hardware specifications of the Kyocera Hydro Elite will include a 4.3” 720p display, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, an 8-megapixel shooter at the back with a 1.3-megapixel camera in front, NFC and LTE connectivity, and a 2100 mAh battery. It will have Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as the operating system of choice right out of the box, accompanied by some kind of proprietary skin from Kyocera. Don’t you suppose that if it is good enough for Bear Grylls, it should be good enough for the rest of us? [Product Page]
