Verizon Turbine 7.0 in the works, likely to be ZTE V66 tablet

Verizon Turbine 70 appears to be in the works, likely to be ZTE V66 tablet

What you see above isn’t a whole lot to go off of in terms of details, but it’s still a bit significant for tablet fans regardless. The image, which displays a page hiding deep within Verizon’s internal system, offers the first confirmation of the ZTE V66 tablet’s destiny: it shall ride onto Big Red’s LTE network as the Verizon Turbine 7.0. We guess the latter name is the catchier of the two. Few other details are known at this point — hence, the incredibly bare product page — but the tablet was originally rumored to sport a 7-inch (1,280 x 800) display, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 4,000mAh battery. We’d venture to guess that an OS jump to ICS or Jelly Bean should be in the works as well, unless Verizon wants its brand new slate to be dead in the water before it even launches.

Sony A99 rumored specs leak: 24.3 megapixels, 921k-dot LCD and 14 bit RAW output

Sony A99 specs leak 243megapixels of fullframed, translucent mirrored camera

Sony’s not unleashed a full frame camera for some time, so when a purported spec-sheet for the upcoming Alpha A99 breaks cover, we’re elbowing our way to the front to see it. According to Sony Alpha Rumors, it’ll be a 24.3-megapixel CMOS Exmor sensor with an ISO range of 100-25,600, 14 bit RAW output and a 1/8000 maximum shutter speed. Other nuggets of interest include a 102 point AF system, full 1080p HD video recording (at 60fps) and a 921k dot LCD (like that seen on the A77 pictured). When might we see this come to market? According to the rumor-mill, sometime in October, with an official unveiling in early September. Along with everything else, it seems. Head on down to the source for the full spread.

HTC Proto goes under spycam, reveals secret identity: the Desire X

HTC Desire X

It seems the newest member of HTC’s mid-range smartphone line-up — previously known as the Proto — is actually the Desire X, according to several Scandinavian retailers (see coverage). Also, Hong Kong blog ePrice, who gave the new model the blurrycam treatment, claims that the specs line up with all the rumors: a 4-inch, 800 x 480 display, Android 4.0 with Sense 4.0, Beats Audio, dual-core 1GHz processor and 5-megapixel camera. HTC should formally out the phone this week at IFA, but its European presence and similarity to the China-only New Desire V means it’s likely an international version — without the continental sticker shock.

T-Mobile memo asks staff to sell ‘against the iPhone’ on September 21st

TMobile memo asks staff to sell 'against the iPhone' on September 21st

T-Mobile has been virtually screaming for an iPhone deal, but a memo leaked to TmoNews suggests Apple isn’t prepared to listen just yet. The note tells carrier staff they’ll get training material to learn “selling against the iPhone” from September 21st onwards. Why does that date sound familiar? Although we don’t know if T-Mobile has an inside track on Apple’s plans or is just making assumptions based on rumors, that’s not the language we would associate with a carrier that has a new agreement to sell the iPhone — not unless it’s using a loose definition of the word “against,” at least. As a consolation, T-Mobile is reportedly supplying updated micro-SIM kits on August 29th to emphasize its improving support for unlocked iPhones on refarmed 3G spectrum. Nothing’s official until Apple struts on stage, of course; you may nonetheless want to research alternatives if getting a cheaper contract phone on Magenta trumps having Cupertino’s latest and greatest.

Motorola RAZR M 4G LTE pics and specs revealed: 4.3-inch qHD display, ICS, 1.5GHz dual-core

Motorola RAZR M pics and specs revealed

We’ve been hearing about the Motorola XT907 — an LTE device bound for Verizon — for quite some time now, but we just got our hands on a full set of specs and even a few pics to go along with it. Let’s get started: the Droid RAZR M 4G LTE, as Big Red is planning to call it, will sport a 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540) Super AMOLED Advanced display — this will likely be the same ColorBoost panel we recently saw on Sprint’s Photon Q — as well as a dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB RAM, 8MP rear camera capable of taking 1080p video, a 3MP (yes, three) front-facing shooter, full GSM / UMTS / HSPA+ global roaming and 8GB internal storage with microSD support. Additionally, the RAZR M will offer NFC, Android 4.0 with a virtual row of navigation keys (much like the Atrix HD and Photon Q) and will weigh 4.44 ounces. Gorilla Glass 2 protects the display from scratches, while the back offers the same kind of Kevlar seen on the Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx. At 8.38 inches deep, its thickness appears to be right in between the two aforementioned phones. So that takes care of the mystery behind this particular smartphone, and it’s quite likely we’ll be getting some quality hands-on time with it alongside the RAZR HD at Moto’s September 5th event. Check out the goods in the gallery below.

Leaked LG Intuition image gives away possible release date

Well this is interesting: the folks over at DroidDog have come across a new press shot for the LG Intuition, and this leaked image might just give us some insight on when the phone will launch. The hint appears to be hidden in the date displayed on the phone: September 15, 2012. While that may seem like nothing at first glance, DroidDog points out that companies frequently like to hide information like this in press shots, so that date displayed on the phone’s screen might just turn out to be the date that the LG Intuition is launching.

Recently, we’ve been hearing word that the LG Optimus Vu has been rebranded as the Intuition in time for its launch at Verizon, and this image seems to confirm it. The Intuition looks exactly the same as the Optimus Vu, with that same 5-inch screen putting out a 4:3 aspect ratio. You can see the front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera in the leaked press shot, and the phablet will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich running and 32 GB of storage.

Of course, until LG makes an official announcement, we can’t be sure that September 15 is the date the Intuition is launching, so it may be best to remain on the skeptical side of things for the time being. However, LG has said previously that it hoped to launch the US version of the Optimus Vu before the end of its Q3, which wraps up at the end of September, so at least a September 15 release date for the freshly-rebranded Intuition doesn’t seem too absurd.

Sadly, we’ll have to wait for more details. September 15 is coming up pretty quickly though, so if that is indeed the launch date, don’t expect Verizon and LG to make us go much longer without pricing and release information. Keep it right here at SlashGear – we’ll have that information for you once LG and Verizon spill the beans.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 specs allegedly leak in full

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2 phablet is believed to be only days from its official release, but a Korean newspaper claims to have jumped the gun on what, exactly, the stylus-toting handset will bring to the table. The Note 2 GT-N7100 will have a 5.5-inch 1280 x 720 display, so the Seoul Newspaper claims, along with 3G/4G connectivity and a 1.4GHz quadcore Exynos 4412 processor. Somewhat surprisingly, it’s also tipped to arrive running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, not the older Ice Cream Sandwich.

The screen itself uses one of Samsung’s Super AMOLED panels, according to the leaked spec sheet, and there’s an 8-megapixel main camera along with either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage. Physically, the blunter edges of the original Galaxy Note have supposedly been rounded off, the newspaper says.

None of those details come as any particular surprise, given what we’ve seen of the Galaxy S III and heard whispered about the Note 2 already. Some details, like the camera, are seemingly unchanged from the current-gen model too – at least on paper – though if Samsung can trim down the physical design to make it more pocket-friendly then that might be enhancement enough. That might take advantage of Samsung’s flexible screen tech, allowing the display to curve somewhat around the body of the phone.

Although it met with some confusion when first announced, the oversized Note soon built up a following of loyal users thanks to its accurate digital stylus and expansive screen size, ideal for media consumption, note-taking and browsing. It also prompted rivals to consider larger phones, such as the LG Optimus Vu.

Samsung is expected to reveal the Galaxy Note II at its Samsung Unpacked event on Wednesday, August 29. SlashGear will be right there to bring you back all the details; keep an eye on our IFA 2012 hub for all the news.

Samsung Galaxy Camera tipped for IFA: 16MP and Android 4.0

Samsung‘s IFA surprises could include an Android powered camera to rival Nikon’s Coolpix S800c, the Samsung Galaxy Camera or Galaxy S Camera, according to pre-show gossip. The new snapper will have a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display and run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, according to GSMArena‘s supposedly-reliable source, and feature a 16-megapixel sensor, 10x zoom and pop-up Xenon flash.

Aesthetically, it’s described as “a Galaxy S III glued to the back of a point-and-shoot camera, with no physical buttons on the back,” hence the mock-up above. Accommodating a bigger than smartphone-average sensor, however, means a thicker device: 1.5-2x the S III, supposedly, putting the Galaxy Camera somewhere in the range of 12.9 to 17.2 mm.

Whispers of a Samsung smart-camera had already begun earlier this year, when a US trademark filing for the “Samsung Galaxy Camera” was spotted. A quick search of the USPTO today shows no such filing for “Galaxy S Camera,” though it’s possible the device could have slightly different names in the US and European markets.

As for connectivity, there’s chatter of both WiFi-only and WiFi + 3G models – the latter only supporting data, not voice – with Samsung apparently in talks with carriers to gage their interest. We’ll know more this week at IFA, so keep an eye on our show hub for all the news.

HTC “Proto” is Desire X tip retailers

HTC’s recently leaked “Proto” smartphone may well launch as the HTC Desire X, according to prematurely published retailer listings, with a debut at IFA 2012 this week increasingly likely. Several online stores have listed the Desire X, Swedish site Technytt spotted, and while specifications are still unpublished, it seems the name has been building some consensus.

Multitech, ClickOK, Elkjop Business and Elgiganten Business all have sparse listings for the Desire X, which according to previous leaks is expected to slot into the middle of the One series, between the One X and the cheapest One V. Specs are believed to include a 5-megapixel camera and 4GB of internal storage, as well as a processor twice as fast as that in the One V, paired with 512MB of RAM.

It would not be the first time that HTC had used such a suffixing nomenclature to describe a new handset. The original HTC Desire was followed by the larger Desire HD, for instance; meanwhile, the “X” suffix has already been used recently in the shape of the flagship One X.

As for when we might see the rumored phone, HTC has not scheduled a press conference but we’re still expecting a quiet launch sometime this week. SlashGear will be at the Berlin show to bring back all the details, so keep an eye on the IFA 2012 hub.

iPhone 5 assembled front panel leaks: NFC supposedly spotted

New iPhone 5 images have leaked ahead of the smartphone’s expected debut early next month, with suggestions that Apple’s first NFC implementation has been spotted. The photos of the apparently assembled front panel of the new smartphone, discovered on a Photobucket account, include a hitherto-unseen square component covered with EMI shielding, that’s tipped to be a near-field communications chip.

Macotakara identified the potential component, with AppleInsider suggesting the dimensions fit with super-compact chips such as the 5 x 5 mm models offered by NXP. That company already supplies Samsung for the Galaxy Nexus’ NFC implementation and is believed to also power Sony’s NFC-enabled phones.

Although the origin of the photos is not entirely clear, the account from which they have been sourced is not without a track record. It was used to reveal that the new iPad would be slightly thicker than the iPad 2, for instance, and has been the source of white colored new iPhone component photos as well.

In this case, it’s the most comprehensive assembly of a leaked iPhone 5 to-date. The handset’s LCD frame, front-facing FaceTime camera, and home button are all in place, showing the camera’s new central position and the elongated display expected to increase the smartphone’s screen resolution to better compete with sizable Android and Windows Phone devices.

Apple’s NFC plans, meanwhile, have long been rumored, though the company has been shy about publicly acknowledging the short-range wireless technology. A digital wallet is the most likely, probably building on the  Passbook system in iOS 6, though previous Apple patents have revealed that the company has considered ticket sales, data transfer, and other uses for NFC.
