Sony Honami Leaked Again Beside Xperia Z

Sony Honami Leaked Again Beside Xperia ZThe Sony i1 Honami is said to be a next generation flagship smartphone from Sony Mobile, and we have seen our fair share of leaks in recent times, which can only mean one thing – it is surely being prepared for a public release real soon. Well, right now, the Sony Xperia Z is sitting pretty somewhere on the high end verandah where smartphones hang out, but it looks set to be replaced by the Sony i1 Honami in due time. This time around, we have a leaked photo of the Sony i1 Honami that has been spotted beside the Sony Xperia Z, in addition to some more details concerning the Honami’s rumored 20-megapixel camera.

A recent system dump did show off what is new where the digital camera on the Sony i1 Honami is concerned, but this time around, at least it has been confirmed that the Honami will more or less carry a 20-megapixel camera. Sony’s recent smartphones do come with pretty decent cameras, and we do hope that this 20-megapixel shooter will be able to duke it out with the best of the rest when released.

Panasonic GX7 digital camera image and specs leak with on-sensor stabilization

Panasonic is gearing up to release a new digital camera – the GX7 – based on the Four Third L1 device. Little has been known about this upcoming device until now, with a leak having surfaced from the German magazine Foto Magazine showing both the front and back of the device, as well as a roster of its specifications.

panasonic_gx7_zpsac50249c

According to the leaked information, the Panasonic GX7 will feature a 16-megapixel sensor, although some past leaks have indicated it would feature an 18-megapixel offering. As 4/3 Rumors pointed out, this could mean the camera utilizes the larger sensor while having 16 effective megapixels, which isn’t unheard of, though nothing official is known either way.

That aside, the body itself has quite the retro flair and is made from magnesium, being available in either all-black or a silver and black color combination. The LCD is hinged so that it can be tilted, and measures in at 3-inch inches with 1.04 million dots. There’s also an integrated stereo microphone in the camera to go alongside the video recording feature.

Reportedly, the GX7 will have an on-sensor image stabilizer, which will be a first for Panasonic if it proves to be true. There’s also an electronic view finder, which is also tiltable and has 2.76 million dots. The shutter speed is said to go up to 1/8000, and there’s a 5-frames-per-second image burst setting, which drops by a single frame if continuous autofocus is used.

Not much else is known beyond this, except that connectivity will be comprised of both WiFi and NFC, and that there’s focus peaking. The body of the GX7 will be priced at 1,000 Euros, and will be launched in September. Two different kits will be available as well, one with a 14 – 42mm lens and with a 20mm lens.

LG execs allegedly spill G2 launch schedule, name Verizon as carrier partner

LG execs allegedly spill G2 launch schedule, name Verizon as carrier partner

We know pretty much all there is to know about the LG G2 at this point, but we thought we’d have to wait until the official reveal event next month for release dates. Well, if Korean outlet The Kyunghyang Shinmun is to be believed, we’ll have to keep wearing our fake surprise faces for that part of the presentation, too. A direct quote, apparently coming from LG Electronics’ CFO David Jung (strangely, he’s only referred to by title), pegs a release window of August for South Korea, September for North America and Europe, and October for all other regions. Furthermore, a different exec names Verizon as a US carrier partner, which would be the G2’s third if the variant we’ve seen at the FCC is indeed destined for both AT&T and T-Mobile. For some reason, this new info has our Spidey-sense tingling (read: we cannot verify the accuracy of these reports), so we’ve reached out to LG for comment and will update this post if we hear anything more.

Lenovo’s first Snapdragon 800 phone leaked as the K6 or X910

Lenovo's first Snapdragon 800 phone leaked as the K6 or X910

Despite the fact that Lenovo hasn’t yet embraced the Snapdragon 600 SoC, it looks like the Chinese company’s finally giving Qualcomm a proper chance with the latter’s more powerful Snapdragon 800. Starting yesterday, several cheeky images of an unannounced dual-SIM Android phone — codenamed K6 or X910 — popped up in Lenovo’s official Chinese forum. The photo after the break shows AnTuTu indicating the presence of the relatively new MSM8974 chip (with Adreno 330 GPU) plus a 1,920 x 1,080 display (which looks like a 5-inch panel to us); so unless the app made a mistake, what we have here could be Lenovo’s upcoming flagship device.

While not much else has been said about the phone, one of the leaksters described it as thin and light, and that it felt good in hand. But to be honest, we’re not too thrilled with the design ID here, especially with that K860-inspired back. What’s interesting, though, is that according to a source of ours, the “X” in X910 may be a wildcard that depends on the kind of deal Lenovo made with Qualcomm. At this point, we’ve been told to assume it’ll eventually become the K910, which would, sadly, make this phone an uglier successor to the Intel-powered K900. Either way, chances are we won’t be seeing many of these outside China, anyway.

Dell officially unveils Precision M3800 workstation at SIGGRAPH, gives rumored specs a nod

Dell officially unveils Precision M3800 workstation at SIGGRAPH, gives rumored specs a nod

Remember that Haswell-powered Dell workstation that popped up last week? The company is officially ready to acknowledged its silicon, announcing on its corporate blog that the machine is being unveiled at SIGGRAPH this week. Dell is still reluctant to get into specifics, but confirmed on a teaser page that the Precision M3800 would contain a 4th Generation Intel Core-i7 CPU, NVIDIA Quadro graphics and a 3,200 x 1,800 QHD+ multi-touch IGZO display. Even better, all that is set to fit into a tight 0.7-inch chassis that weighs in at 4.5 pounds. Mum’s still the word on specifics, but previous leaks assigned the machine 15GB of RAM and either a 1TB HDD or a 512GB SSD. Dell hasn’t let the workstation’s price slip either, but we don’t expect it to be cheap — nothing thin and powerful ever is.

BlackBerry 9720 running BB 7.1 OS boldly shows its curves in hands-on video

BlackBerry 9720 running BB71 boldly shows its curves in handson video

BlackBerry confirmed that despite the launch of BB10, it’ll still deploy one handset running BB7 later this year. We’re almost certain that phone will be the 9720, and while the Thai site that got an initial look called it a Bold, it might actually be a new member of the Curve family, according to a fresh leak from our Vietnamese friends at Tinhte. They’ve given the unannounced QWERTY model a brief video hands-on and taken a bunch of thankfully sharp snaps, including some side-by-side shots with the old Bold 9790. A disclaimer in the translated text states the device is a “trial version,” so the final hardware may be slightly different, but it’s said to have a 480 x 360 resolution touchscreen and a 1,450mAh removable battery. Our Vietnamese is a little rusty, so while we can’t tell you what the narrator is saying, you’ll still get a good overview of the hardware in the three-minute vid below.

BlackBerry A10 for AT&T flaunts 5-inch screen in latest leak (video)

BlackBerry A10 for AT&T flaunts 5inch screen in latest leak video

Looks like Verizon isn’t the only carrier that’s in line to receive the anticipated BlackBerry A10. In the latest leak from Tinhte.vn, the smartphone is shown off in a hands-on video wearing AT&T branding on the rear. A quick removal of the A10’s back cover reinforces the claim of a beefy 2,800mAh battery and 5-inch HD AMOLED display (unlike the LCD panel on the Z10), along with slots for both micro-SIM and microSD cards. Touring the device, micro-USB and micro-HDMI ports are both visible on the phone’s left side — another similarity to the Z10 — along with BlackBerry’s traditional three-button volume rocker on the right, and a both a power button and headphone jack on the phone’s top. You can see the comparison between BlackBerry’s current flagship and the A10 in the hands-on video, but you’ll need to learn Vietnamese to gain much in terms of impressions.

Nexus 7 2 full specs and benchmarks surface with codename “Razor”

This evening, the new Nexus 7 was spotted in a couple shots posted by a Reddit user, complete with packaging and a timestamp. A few short hours later, the folks over at Android Police have produced a full roster of specifications and benchmarks for the 7-inch slate, giving the most detailed look at the upcoming Nexus 7 yet.

1

The Nexus 7 is codenamed Razor, and according to the benchmarks features a 7-inch 1920 x 1200 display, as various leaks have suggested. With the bar on the screen, the actual resolution works out to 1200 x 1824 pixels. Under the hood, there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core 1.5GHz processor and 2GB of RAM. Andreno 320 is pegged for the GPU.

Also as leaks have suggested, the slate runs Android 4.3, but we’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out what exactly the changes that come with that entail. As far as the hardware goes, the new Nexus 7 is pretty much on par with the Nexus 4, although the Quadrant benchmarks for the slate show it scoring a bit higher at around 5500 rather than 4200.

The Quadrant benchmarking tool is akin to the more commonly known AnTuTu, and looks at 3D graphics, I/O, and CPU. In the screenshot, we see a comparison between this device and some other handsets, with it scoring above the HTC One X, Motorola ATRIX 4G, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Nexus, Optimus 2X, and HTC Desire HD.

A 3DMark graphics benchmark was also run, with Android Police stating they ran it in “extreme” mode with a 1080p action sequence. During the test, the new Nexus 7 scored 7,188, with it staying around the 30fps mark. This is in comparison to the Nexus 4, which scored around 6300, and the previous Nexus 7, which scored 1877 on the Ice Store Extreme test.

Moto X screenshots show Lost Phone Tracking, Connect Chrome Extension and more

The Moto X has been leaked extensively, and with the DROID handsets being revealed, we saw some of those leaked features make an appearance, likely confirming what we can expect with the Moto X. Following up with that, however, has been a rather extensive leak of screenshots over at Android Police showing some of the features the Moto X will be offering users, among them being a Motorola Connect Chrome extension and Lost Phone Tracking.

5

First up is Motorola Assist, which you can see the screenshots for in the image above. This will reportedly be the alternative to the Smart Actions with the DROID handsets, and will serve functions like automatically putting the Moto X into hands-free mode when the user is driving, and silencing the handset during a meeting.

There’s also Motorola Migrate, which makes it easy to migrate data from a previous handset over the Moto X. Touchless Control and Launch Phrase, meanwhile, further confirm that the device will have voice control capabilities. One of the screenshots show the training page for the launch phrase, and advises users to “Move to a quiet room. Like, seriously silent.”

The Lost Phone Tracking feature is what it sounds like – an integrated way to track the handset if it is lost, with one of the screenshots under “Motorola Device ID” detailing the Google account being used for, among other things, “Lost Phone Web Portal,” as well as the Motorola Connect feature. The Motorola Connect Chrome Extension will allow users to sync text messages and calls with Chrome.

Rounding it all out is Active Display and Active Notifications, with the former working to conserve battery life by fading notifications in and out and selectively lighting the pixels needed to show the display. These won’t appear, according to the screenshot, if the phone is in your pocket, if it is placed facedown, or if the user is currently on a call. Active Notifications, meanwhile, give users extensive control over the notification settings.

Kobo N514 ereader images surface showing new device

Kobo debuted its limited edition Aura HD ebook reader back in April, and we got our hands on it shortly after. Now a new device from the company has surfaced in a batch of leaked images, and though we don’t know the final name of it yet, it is similar in design to the Aura from the front. While not much is known about it, some details have surfaced via an FCC filing.

kobo-glo-2-back

You can see the full gallery of images below, which gives us a pretty good look at the slate from all sides. They first surfaced over at the German website Lesen, which refers to the device as the Kobo N514, which is likely not its final name. By the looks of it, this will be a follow up to its Kobo Glo ereader, though in terms of design they differ greatly.

Netronix, maker of the device, reportedly requested that the documentation related to the Kobo device be kept on the down low until August 30th so that “sensitive business information” was kept from the market, so – pending any more leaks – it’ll be awhile before we get certain additional information on the slate. There are some specs, however, that were revealed by the FCC filing.

Reportedly, the Kobo N514 will feature a 6-inch display, possibly with a resolution of 1024 x 758 pixels, which would put it in line with the Kobo Glo. Likewise, the ereader is said to offer wireless connectivity in the form of 802.11 WiFi, and to feature a 1500mAh battery, which is a jump from the Glo’s 1000mAh offering.

Based on this information, users won’t find much difference between this and its predecessor. However, keep in mind that there’s reportedly an embargo in place on information, and so this could change once we know more about what the slate offers. Until then, you can check out some of Kobo’s other offerings in our Kobo tag portal.
