Nexus 7 2 leak reveals Android 4.3, wireless charging

As Google’s press event next week creeps up on us, rumors of the next-generation Nexus 7 are heating up big-time. A leaked product information tag of what is said to be the second-gen Nexus 7 shows us what we might expect in the refreshed tablet. These features include Android 4.3, wireless charging, and dual cameras.

The photo suggest that the tablet will also sport an unspecified quad-core 1.5GHz processor, as well as a 5-megapixel rear camera with a 1.2-megapixel front-facing snapper. The 7-inch display will remain as we’ve known in the past, but there will be support for outputting 1080p video on your TV. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the tablet will sport a 1080p resolution, but one can be curious about such a notion.

The wireless charging is a curious thing to note as well, but it’s not all too surprising. The Nexus 4 has wireless charging capabilities, and while we haven’t seen a Google tablet with such support yet, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the next-generation Nexus 7 pack such a feature.

As for a launch date for the Nexus 7 2, it’s been previously tipped that we’ll see the device sometime later this month, which goes right along with Google’s recent announcement of an event coming next week on July 24. That could be the day where we’ll see Android 4.3 in the flesh, as well as this heavily-rumored Nexus 7. Of course, we’ll be there to give you the up-and-up on whatever goes down, so be sure to stay tuned.

New Nexus 7 leak points to Android 4.3, dual cameras and wireless charging (update: on sale July 31st)

New Nexus 7 leak points to Android 4.3, dual cameras and wireless charging (update: on sale July 31st)

A few days back, a lovely tipster sent us in some shots that strongly suggest a shiny new Nexus 7 will be hitting shelves next week for $269. Granted, that’s for the 32GB model, but it still represents a $20 premium over the current version. What we haven’t known until now, though, has been what exactly that extra $20 will get you. A new leak, that photo above of a product info tag, suggests that there are actually quite a few extras baked in this time around. According to the pic, there’s a quad-core 1.5GHz CPU with the still-unannounced Android 4.3 as the OS. The 7-inch screen size remains, though it’s unclear if there’s a resolution bump to accompany it. Also on board are a pair of cameras: 1.2MP up front and 5MP around back. The two more unexpected tidbits are the addition of Slim Port support for playing 1080p video on your TV, as well as wireless charging, because the less cables you need, the happier you’re bound to be. We’re sure all will be revealed next week at Google’s big event.

Update: Yet another tipster has reached out to us to share that the next iteration of the Nexus 7 will officially go on sale in Staples on July 31st. As you can see in the memo after the break the tablets are expected to arrive in stores as early as the 24th, but they’ll be kept under lock and key until the last day of the month. This doesn’t preclude Google from selling the devices through the Play store earlier, though, but that would mean taking the plunge without trying it out first.

Notion Ink renders show Adam II, accessories and EVE smartphone

Notion Ink renders show Adam II, accessories and EVE smartphone

Notion Ink‘s been teasing the Adam II for well over a year now, and while the first generation left us cold, we’re curious to see what the second attempt brings to the table. A series of renders recently surfaced that allegedly show the Android tablet, its accessories / packaging and a companion smartphone concept named EVE. It’s unclear if the images — which have since been pulled — are legitimate, but the design appears to match previous leaks. The accessories include a collapsible docking station, USB charger, stylus and dual-tone leather carrying case. What’s most intriguing, however, is the EVE smartphone which also runs Android and features a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen along with a secondary display mounted on its spine, just like the Adam II. Check out the gallery below for the complete set of pictures.

Notion Ink Adam II tablet, packaging, and dock revealed in slew of images

We saw Notion Ink‘s Adam II tablet in a blurry teaser image that was released back in November, giving us precious few details. This was followed up in May with official details being dropped, as well as another look at the slate. Now we’re getting a better look at the device thanks to a slew of leaked images of the Adam II tablet, as well as its power cable, dock, and packaging. While the page on Behance where it was leaked has since been pulled, we’ve got a gallery of them for you after the break.

18

The images cover the whole gamut, ranging from the Adam II tablet to the dock and the tablet in the dock, to the packaging and the power cable and adapter. One image shows off the covers for the slate, and another features the stylus, revealing a type of stucco rubber grip. A couple diagrams are thrown in as well of both the power adapter and the packaging.

Some of the images are annotated with ribbons of information, and in them we see, for example, the dual tone leather cover for the tablet. The cover has a smooth finish and a magnetic locking strap, with the outside finish being “smooth” and the inside material listed as plastic. There will be three color options: Cerulean Blue & Smokey Grey, Coal Black & Burnt Umber, and Coal Black & Smokey Grey.

The stylus is designed with a “tapered angular profile,” which – in addition to the rubber grip – is meant to make it easy to handle and to help avoid drops. And then there’s the dock, which can be folded up into what looks like an easy to transport rectangle, with it forming a tri-shape when opened. There’s a shot of the tablet within the dock, as well.

Per the official specifications that were released in May, the Adam II will feature a 10.1-inch IPS display, as well as a secondary black and white display on the side, a change up over the original Adam. The resolution is 1280 x 800. Inside, users will find a 1.5GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, as well as 1GB of RAM. The software is Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Other specs include Bluetooth, a 6000mAh battery with a reported life of 10 hours on a charge, and a rear/front camera at 2-megapixels. Price hasn’t been revealed yet, but reports have surfaced saying the previously rumored $220 tag was wrong.

US Cellular’s Moto X launch date leaks as August 26

We’re still waiting to hear something official from Motorola and carriers about when the Moto X will be making its way to consumer hands, but a leak has surfaced suggesting that it won’t be too much longer. On the Moto X forums over at Android Central, a picture of an internal US Cellular document has surfaced with all the data blanked out except for two dates, with one showing the handset’s launch.

uscc-motox

According to the leaked image, the Moto X will be launched on August 26, with the carrier receiving the “Motorola X Launch Kit” the day before that. The image specifies the launch on that day will be “Wave 1, 2, & 3″, which is being suggested as possible US Cellular retail stores in various markets. If that is true, certain other markets could see a delay in getting the handset.

The Moto X has been seen in numerous leaks, with everything from specs to videos and back again. Earlier this week, a video surfaced showing an official Rogers promo for the Moto X, giving a look at its functionality, including its voice commands capabilities and a brief look at the camera software. The video seems to confirm what we already heard – that in Canada, it will be a Rogers exclusive.

Aside from many images that have cropped up said to be of the handset, it was spotted in use by Google’s Eric Schmidt. We’ve also already seen the purported launch dates for the flagship offering on Verizon, which is pegged at August 23. You can see the rest of the (quite numerous) leaks in our Moto X tag portal.

According to leaked specs, the handset will feature either a 4.3- or 4.7-inch 720p display, as well as Bluetooth 4.0 + EDR and support for 802.11AC wifi. The Android on the device is said to be either stock or near stock, according to some leaks, and, of course, the handset will be available with numerous customization options, including engravings and different colors.

Dell Precision M3800 MacBook Pro rival confirmed: 3200 x 1800 display rumored

Dell has confirmed to SlashGear that it is readying an unannounced mobile workstation, the Precision M3800, tipped to take on Apple’s MacBook Pro with a Retina-besting 3200 x 1800 15.6-inch display. Due to hit desks before the year is out, the new notebook packs a quadcore Intel Core i7-4702MQ processor and up to 16GB of memory, according to Tweakers, and a choice of either 1TB of standard hard-drive space or 512GB of SSD storage.

dell_precision_m3800_leak

It’s the display that’s most interesting, though, with the Precision M3800 said to offer a choice of resolutions from 1920 x 1080 Full HD, up to a whopping 3200 x 1800. Considering Apple’s MacBook Pro 15 has 2880 x 1800, that would put the M3800 just ahead.

Driving that display is expected to be NVIDIA’s Quadro K1100M GPU, complete with up to 2GB of dedicated memory. If the graphics chip sounds unfamiliar then you’re not alone; it’s not yet been announced by NVIDIA.

Ports on the 15.6-inch notebook are said to include four USB 3.0, HDMI, and an SD card reader, though no ethernet connection; instead, Dell is said to have followed Apple’s example and relied on a separate adapter dongle for that. There’s still room for either 61Wh or 91Wh batteries, though, though no word on how long the Precision M3800 will last on a full charge.

The Windows 8 notebook will be offered with or without a touchscreen, and Dell will supposedly be charging between $1,699 and $1,999 for the matte black, aluminum-trimmed machine.

Dell would not confirm the full specifications, though did tell SlashGear that the notebook is indeed an upcoming model.

“Dell is introducing the thinnest and lightest workstation ever later this year” a spokesperson told us. “The Dell Precision M3800 is the first mobile workstation that is less than 3/4 of an inch, at 18mm, weighs only 4.5lbs and offers certified performance and dependability for creative professionals. We are not releasing or confirming any additional details today but stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.”

Samsung Galaxy Note III leaked sketch teases Xenon camera flash

Samsung’s successor to the Galaxy Note II is surely to come into existence at some point, and we’ve been waiting on it for quite some time now, but it seems we’re still stuck with rumors and leaks for the time being. The latest leak to cross our paths is a sketch of what is said to be the Galaxy Note III. Nothing too out of the ordinary here, except for what is said to be a Xenon camera flash.

herowriting-580x4421

The sketch itself doesn’t reveal much about the design of the phablet smartphone, seeing as how it just looks like any other device from Samsung, but the spec sheet below the sketch reveals that the phone will include a “Xenon flash,” which is a rare thing to see on smartphones and hasn’t yet quite caught on yet in the mobile market.

A Xenon flash is a lot better than conventional LED flash in the sense that a Xenon flash allows for much better low-light images. Xenon flashes provide a stronger burst of light, but they can’t be used when recording video, since they can’t be left on like an LED flash can. Nokia’s 808 PureView has a Xenon flash, which can capture much better photos in low-light conditions.

Galaxy-Note-III-front

The sketch also reveals that the Galaxy Note III will have a dedicated camera shutter button, which is something that we don’t see on Samsung devices. The camera itself will sport a 13MP sensor that will most likely be the same sensor that’s in the Galaxy S 4, but we can’t be quite sure just yet.

The Galaxy Note III is said to be packing an Exynos Octa core processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 in different regions) with 2GB of RAM. There will also be a gargantuan 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a full 1080p HD resolution. To finish the job, the phablet will be running Android Jelly Bean, although we’re not sure if it’ll be version 4.2 or 4.3, but we should be finding out in a couple of months.

Report: Dell Precision M3800 workstation to launch with 3,200 x 1,800 display option (updated)

Dell Precision M3800 laptop

According to a source speaking to Dutch site Tweakers.net, which has been spot on with a previous Dell leak, a new laptop known as the M3800 is set to join Dell’s Precision range of workstations. An Intel Core i7-4702MQ (Haswell) processor will reportedly power the M3800, with a 2GB NVIDIA Quadro K1100M GPU taking care of graphics. It’s expected to come with up to 16GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive or 512GB SSD and two options for the 15.6-inch screen: a 3,200 x 1,800 resolution or a 1080p panel as the base option. The workstation is said to measure 18mm (around 0.7 inches) at its thickest point, and tip the scales at 2kg (4.4 pounds). Integrated docking found on other Precision models is apparently not in the M3800’s feature set; it’s also missing an Ethernet port, so hard-lines will need to be connected via a USB intermediate. Tweakers.net lists an expected price range of $1,699 to $1,999, but now comes the part where we wait for the M3800 to go official and see how correct all this leaked info is.

Update: Dell has now provided us with a statement that confirms that the M3800 is indeed coming later this year, although it’s not yet confirming all of the specs. More information is promised in the coming weeks.

Android 4.3 leaks for Nexus 4

Google still resolutely refuses to give us Android 4.3 – though we’re expecting it to finally break cover next week – but that hasn’t stopped the leaks, this time with a downloadable version for the brave. The file, shared over at xda-developers, lacks the radio and bootloader, but can still be restored to a Nexus 4 using the TWRP backup app.

android_4-3_leak

If you’re desperate for some obvious changes, however, you might be disappointed. Those cavalier enough to try the leaked ROM have said that, on the surface at least, things are pretty much the same as Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, with any more significant alterations going on behind the scenes.

According to the source of the leak, Jeff Williams, the culprit was a Craigslist Nexus 4 that turned out to be sold by a Google employee. The ROM the handset was running was Android 4.3, rather than the public version of Jelly Bean, and that then spawned a system dump.

Google is holding an event on July 24, where we’re expecting to see Android 4.3 officially revealed. The big question is whether there’ll also be a new handset to go along with it, with long-standing leaks around the Moto X indicating the phone is also imminent. Nonetheless, that might have to wait until a dedicated Motorola event, even with Google owning the handset company.

If you want to try it yourself, there’s been a flashable ROM put together by another xda-developers user, and a demo video of what you can expect below. As always, you attempt this at your own risk, and those feeling cautious might prefer to wait until Google releases Android 4.3 officially, something we’re expecting to be just around the corner.

Android 4.3 leaks for the Nexus 4, teases us one last time

Android 43 leaks for the Nexus 4, teases us some more

Oh, Android 4.3, why must you tease us so? The new version of Jelly Bean‘s been making cameos all over the place for a couple months now, so it was only a matter of time until we’d see a build available for download. A working TWRP backup of Android 4.3 just popped up on XDA Developers thanks to Google+ user Jeff Williams, who recently purchased a Nexus 4 running the new version of Jelly Bean. Some industrious folks were then able to extract a system dump from Jeff’s phone (minus radio and bootloader, according to Android Police) and confirm that the build (JWR66N) is legitimate. Our friend Paul O’Brien over at MoDaCo is currently testing the TWRP backup. We’ll keep you updated as we find out more, but one thing’s abundantly clear: it won’t be long before Android 4.3 becomes official.
