AT&T Nokia Lumia 1020 PureView confirmed in video goof

AT&T has prematurely confirmed the Nokia Lumia 1020, posting a trio of videos of the PureView smartphone hours ahead of the Windows Phone’s official unveil. The footage – likely to be removed as soon as someone at AT&T realizes the mistake, but for now embedded after the cut – confirms some of the highlight features of the 41-megapixel smartphone, as well as long-standing rumors that it would indeed be headed to the carrier in the first place.

att_lumia_1020_0

For instance, there’s confirmation that the Lumia 1020 – which until recently was known by its Nokia “EOS” codename – will have stereo recording during video, thanks to two microphones. There’s also support for 6x zooming while recording in 720p HD mode.

As for the sensor, that’s confirmed as a 41-megapixel PureView CMOS, using backside illumination technology. It has Zeiss optics, just like on the Nokia 808 PureView, and optical image stabilization.

Full manual control, just as we heard about earlier today, is also supported in the camera app. That uses various concentric rings to allow the user to shift manual settings for things like exposure and ISO.

Since we’re expecting AT&T to whip down the videos at any moment, we’ve screencapped the key parts for the gallery below. Update: Well that didn’t take too long; AT&T has made the three videos private, so you’ll have to make do with the gallery of screenshots below.

In short, it’s confirmation of everything we’ve been expecting to see from Nokia and the Lumia 1020, in addition to the fact that it’s headed to AT&T. We’ll know all the rest – such as timescales for release and pricing – at the Nokia “Zoom, Reinvented” event later today; join SlashGear for all the details as they’re announced.

Nokia Lumia 1020 PureView Windows Phone leaks in full

Nokia’s big reveal for the Lumia 1020 PureView isn’t expected to take place for another few hours, but that hasn’t stopped full details of the Windows Phone 8 flagship from emerging beforehand. The Lumia 1020 will have a 4.5-inch AMOLED display on one side and a 41-megapixel PureView camera with an f/2.2 lens and optical image stabilization on the other, with a new “Pro Camera” app to give more access to manual settings and tweakable modes than on any Windows Phone before it.

nokia_lumia_1020_leak

According to The Verge‘s sources, that will include control over white balance, focus, ISO, shutter speed, and image ratio. There’ll be a new “radial” interface to scroll through the options, it’s said.

Nokia has even included the ability to take two photos simultaneously but at different resolution, presumably giving one low-res shot for instant and speedy sharing to social networks like Twitter and Facebook, and another full-res version for printing and archiving. It’s also likely to be the basis of the “Zoom, Reinvented” tagline Nokia has picked for the Lumia 1020′s launch: by cropping out portions of the full-res image, the user will be able to in effect take advantage of a lossless digital zoom even after the original frame has been captured.

The Lumia 1020 will have 32GB of internal storage to store all those shots, and a Xenon flash.

Other specifications supposedly include a wide-angle front facing camera lens, for fitting more people into the frame, and 2GB of RAM. Wireless charging won’t be integrated, though – like on the Lumia 925 – Nokia will supposedly offer a wireless charging cover that can be snapped on to enable the feature.

However, the Camera Grip shell we’ve already seen leaked is arguably a more interesting case to wrap up the Lumia 1020 in. That, as we’ve seen suggested before, has both a battery and a two-stage camera button, as well as a tripod mount for more professional use of the new PureView phone.

As for why PureView is special, and how the lossless digital zoom actually works, check out our full SlashGear 101 on Nokia’s camera technology.

SlashGear will be at Nokia’s Lumia 1020 event later today in New York City to bring back all the details of the new Windows Phone’s launch. It kicks off at 11am ET (4pm London; 8am PT).

Update: Screenshots of the Pro Camera app have emerged, courtesy of Vizileaks, showing the radial layout for control over ISO, white balance, and other settings, as well as one of the settings pages for stills. That confirms the dual-capture feature, apparently grabbing up to a 40-megapixel still (along with what we’re guessing is a more regularly sized image). Vizileaks also has some sample shots from a prototype Lumia 1020 and an early version of the Pro Camera app.

Nokia Lumia 1020 camera full spec sheet leaked ahead of launch

Earlier today we saw a gallery of the Lumia 1020 camera’s grip leak, which hints at some features of the device, such as an extra battery for a charge time boost. Slipping in right before Nokia launches the device has been another leak, this one purporting to be the complete specification sheet for the device, giving us a nice look at what users can expect. UPDATE: See our full Nokia Lumia 1020 hands-on now!

IMAGE_-_Lumia_1020_-_back_-_black_201307101553581-580x318

The device will, according to the specifications sheet, will feature a 4.5-inch AMOLED HD+ display with a resolution of 1280 x 768 with Gorilla Glass 3. To make it easier to use, there’s also a high-brightness mode, as well as a Sunlight Readability feature that ensures users can see what they’re doing outdoors. The display is designed to be “super sensitive” so that it can be used with a glove or by a fingernail touch.

Inside, users will find a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon (version unknown) at 1.5GHz, along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage space. There’s no mention of a microSD slot for expansion, but there is an included 7GB of SkyDrive storage in the cloud. The camera is listed as the expected 41-megapixel PureView with optical image stabilization, as well as a backside-illuminated sensor and an Xenon flash. The device is capable of recording in 1080p at 30fps, and is accompanied by Nokia Pro Camera and Nokia Smart Camera modes.

As far as connectivity goes, the spec sheet shows GSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 2100/1900/900/850, LTE bands 1/3/7/20/8, HSPA+ DL Cat 24, dual-carrier 42.1mbps/UL Cat 5.76mbps. There’s also said to be “free global HERE Maps and HERE Drive+, free HERE transit available in the store.” Likewise, there’s the typical NFC, Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11 a/b/g/n, GPS, and USB 2.0.

There’s a 2000 mAh battery, support for wireless charging, dual microphones, a standard 3.5mm AV connector, and IHF speakers. The dual microphones are accompanied by Nokia Rich Recording, which records stereo audio that is said to be distortion-free and capable of recording in loud environments. It will be available black, yellow, and white.

Leaked Sprint document shows new Unlimited, My Way and My All-In plans (update: confirmed, launches July 12th)

Sprint leak shows new unlimited, allin plans

According to a leaked document provided to PhoneArena, Sprint might be replacing its “Everything” plans with new “Unlimited, My Way” options. At first glance, there looks to be a lot more choices than before, and certainly a bigger benefit to those with additional lines per household. For example, an individual’s unlimited talk and text plan would be $50 a month, but a second line would be reduced to $40, a third to $30 and a fourth or more to $20 a line. Unlimited smartphone data would be $30 on top of that, while data-sippers could opt for a 1GB plan that’s $20 a month instead. If you want unlimited everything with a cherry on top, there appears to be a “My All-in” plan that offers unlimited talk, text and data with a 5GB mobile hotspot for $110 a month. We’re not sure if the carrier is simply anticipating a challenge to T-Mobile’s looming announcement, but it does seem like the magenta operator might have a contender if this turns out to be true. Head on over to the source to see the leaked document in full.

Update: We just received Sprint internal correspondence via a tipster that not only confirms the new Unlimited plans, but also states the Now Network hopes to launch them this Friday, July 12th. The letter goes on to emphasize the Sprint Unlimited Guarantee as stated in the leaked document, declaring that customers who sign up for them will get the unlimited plans for life.

Multicolored budget iPhone shows up at multiple sources in multiple hues

Multicolored budget iPhone shows up at multiple sources, in multiple hues

While previous rumors surrounding a future budget iPhone have largely shown it in monochromatic white, a fresh batch of photos suggest that it could be more colorful. Apple Daily, Nowhereelse and Sonny Dickson all claim to have leaked images of the device’s back shell in pastel shades of blue, green, pink and yellow. There’s little available to verify the photos’ accuracy, but they are at least consistent — all of them show the same camera holes and logo positioning. Although we likely won’t know the truth behind these shots for a few months at best, we won’t be surprised if Apple’s next starter iPhone is especially vibrant.

Samsung and HTC home automation plans teased with ZigBee

Samsung and HTC are flirting with advanced home automation control in future Galaxy and One smartphones, it’s reported, turning new smartphones into universal remotes for lighting, entertainment, and more. The two companies are each separately working on plans for what Pocket-lint‘s source describes as “home smartphones” that blur the line between mobile products and gadgets found around the home.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

For Samsung, the proposed solution is to embed ZigBee into its new phones, it’s suggested. The low-power networking system – already found in products like Philips’ Hue remote-controlled LED lightbulbs, along with Samsung’s own ZigBee bulbs – creates mesh networks for whole-house coverage, and can be embedded into power switches, thermostats, and more.

Samsung is already a member of the ZigBee Alliance, and has been flirting with remote control functionality – albeit using the somewhat more mundane infrared standard – in its more recent Galaxy phones. The Galaxy S 4, for instance, has an IR blaster that, with the accompanying app, can be used to control TVs and other home entertainment kit.

HTC, meanwhile, is also bundling infrared with its recent devices; the HTC One’s power button is actually also a hidden IR blaster, for instance, and like Samsung the smartphone comes with a TV remote app that can pull in real-time listings and control cable boxes and more. It’s said to be looking to ZigBee RF4CE, a newer iteration which is specifically focused on home entertainment and home automation hardware.

Samsung is apparently considering a standalone ZigBee-compliant accessory dongle, though exactly what they add-on would do is unclear. HTC already has a limited range of accessories for wireless home use, though focused currently on streaming media, such as the Media Link HD.

When we could expect to see the new devices with ZigBee support is unclear, and course it will take more than just a handset update to get a home equipped for automation. Instead, there’ll need to be greater availability – and understanding – of automation accessories, though there Samsung could have an edge given its other divisions make TVs, fridges, air conditioners, and other home tech.

LG G2 photos and video leak ahead of August 7 event

It is anticipated LG will be unveiling its Optimus G followup handset, called the G2, at an event on August 7. While there have been fairly ample leaks regarding the handset, there haven’t been any decent shots of the device. That changed today, with the folks over at Engadget getting a mini gallery of image said to be the LG G2.

1

Most notably, this leak includes images of the back of the handset, confirming rumors that the smartphone would feature touch controls on the back rather than the typical volume rocker on the edge of the device. As far as design goes, it has a bit of flavors from the Nexus 4, Optimus G, and even the iPhone. This is most apparent in the video below, which shows the G2 in action.

The camera you see on the back, under which is the power and volume controls, is a 13-megapixel offering, while the display is said to be a 5.2-inch full HD panel at 1080p. This is smaller than the 5.5-inches of its predecessor, and is in line with other leaks we’ve heard regarding the handset. The speakers are located in a grille at the bottom of the device.

Inside, it is said users will find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.3GHz processor, as well as 2GB of RAM while running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. That is the extent of what we know for now, except that the unit featured is a Sprint variant, according to a screenshot that was sent to Engadget. The video purports slightly different specs, however.

According to 4Leakz, who uploaded the video to YouTube, the device measures in with a length of 5.46-inches and a width of 2.80-inches. Likewise, the device in the video shows it as featuring NFC connectivity, visible via the NFC icon located at the top. The model number for this handset is LG-D803.

Droid Ultra surfaces in leaked photo, model number hints at Maxx variant

Droid Ultra surfaces in leaked photo, model number hints at Maxx variant

If the signs of Motorola’s upcoming Droid refresh weren’t clear enough already, an in-the-flesh photo of what’s said to be the Droid Ultra XT1080 has surfaced on the XDA Developers forum, courtesy of xavierk75. Not only do an FCC filing and accompanying rumors peg the XT1080 as a Maxx variant with a beefier battery, but the picture lines up with the kevlar enclosure and trio of capacitive buttons shown in a press shot posted by @evleaks. Thanks to the device’s examination by Uncle Sam, we know that it carries radios for Verizon-friendly LTE, EV-DO Rev. A and WCDMA (850/900/1900/2100), in addition to NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 802.11ac, to boot. Once again, specs are still MIA, but they — or an official reveal — can’t be far off at this point.

Apple budget iPhone reportedly leaks (but keep the salt handy)

Could this be the much-rumored budget iPhone Apple aims to battle Android at the low-end with? That’s the claim by Techdy, which managed to grab some hands-on time with a plastic-shelled smartphone bearing Apple’s logo and a whole lot of speculation. According to the leak, you’re looking at the white version of the upcoming budget iPhone set to launch alongside the iPhone 5S later this year.

budget_iphone_leak

Exactly where the phone came from, is unclear. Techdy has links with M.I.C. Gadget, a site we’ve seen leak pre-announcement gadgets often from manufacturing sources in the past, though if the handset is legitimate then this is certainly one of the biggest to spill out prior to an OEM’s intentions.

Suspending the usual disbelief, if only for a moment, the site claims that the handset as a whole feels far from cheap, despite how it has been billed. Made of polycarbonate – just as Nokia uses for its Lumia Windows Phones – it will have a 4-inch screen like the iPhone 5, going by the display assembly – but is thicker and blunter than the current Apple flagship.

budget_iphone_leak_vs_iphone_5

On the bottom there’s a Lightning port and four speaker holes, along with the headphone jack and a hole for a microphone. The display itself has narrower side bezels than we’ve seen on an iPhone so far.

However, it’s also worth noting that Techdy has seized the opportunity to throw together an Android-powered clone (which looks quite a bit like HTC’s ill-fated First, in fact) of the supposed leaked iPhone, and will be selling it as the “Basic Bear”. That could well make this claimed preview of the new iPhone more like a thinly-veiled piece of rumor-mill marketing, but we’ll likely have to wait closer to the official budget iPhone reveal to find out for sure.
