Moto X press image leaks ahead of August event

The cat’s finally out of the bag, and we’ll be getting our first official look at the heavily-rumored Moto X come August 1, but there are a still a few days left before that happens, leaving the door wide open for even more leaks and rumors to make their way to the front. This time around, we’re treated with a clean press shot of the Moto X.

motogo

This isn’t the first clear photo that we’ve seen of the device, as Google chairman Eric Schmidt modeled off the phone in a few “spy” shots a few days ago. That provided us a good look of the back of the device with the glossy curved shell. However, today’s press image gives us the first clear look at the front of the handset.

There’s nothing too surprising in the press image above, other than that it appears Motorola did away with the obnoxious logo on the upper-left corner that we saw in a Verizon leak earlier this month. The device also looks identical to what we saw in a leaked promo video for the Moto X.

We’ll be seeing the phone’s unveiling on the first of the month, and the only evidence we have for a public launch date is US Cellular’s leaked release date of August 26. From that, it’s probably safe to say that other major carriers will follow suit and launch the phone towards the end of the month.

What’s perhaps the most interesting tidbit is how Motorola will be conducting the unveil event on August 1. From the invitation that we received, it looks like the company might not have one grand keynote, but rather multiple sessions detailing different bits about the phone. Plus, these details will have embargo times that are lifted later in the day. It’ll be interesting how it goes, but we’ll be there to bring you the latest about the Moto X, so stick around.

Nexus 7 2 leak reveals Android 4.3, wireless charging

As Google’s press event next week creeps up on us, rumors of the next-generation Nexus 7 are heating up big-time. A leaked product information tag of what is said to be the second-gen Nexus 7 shows us what we might expect in the refreshed tablet. These features include Android 4.3, wireless charging, and dual cameras.

nexus_7_1-580x386

The photo suggest that the tablet will also sport an unspecified quad-core 1.5GHz processor, as well as a 5-megapixel rear camera with a 1.2-megapixel front-facing snapper. The 7-inch display will remain as we’ve known in the past, but there will be support for outputting 1080p video on your TV. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the tablet will sport a 1080p resolution, but one can be curious about such a notion.

The wireless charging is a curious thing to note as well, but it’s not all too surprising. The Nexus 4 has wireless charging capabilities, and while we haven’t seen a Google tablet with such support yet, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the next-generation Nexus 7 pack such a feature.

7-19-2013nexus7productinfo2

As for a launch date for the Nexus 7 2, it’s been previously tipped that we’ll see the device sometime later this month, which goes right along with Google’s recent announcement of an event coming next week on July 24. That could be the day where we’ll see Android 4.3 in the flesh, as well as this heavily-rumored Nexus 7. Of course, we’ll be there to give you the up-and-up on whatever goes down, so be sure to stay tuned.

Samsung Galaxy Note III leaked sketch teases Xenon camera flash

Samsung’s successor to the Galaxy Note II is surely to come into existence at some point, and we’ve been waiting on it for quite some time now, but it seems we’re still stuck with rumors and leaks for the time being. The latest leak to cross our paths is a sketch of what is said to be the Galaxy Note III. Nothing too out of the ordinary here, except for what is said to be a Xenon camera flash.

herowriting-580x4421

The sketch itself doesn’t reveal much about the design of the phablet smartphone, seeing as how it just looks like any other device from Samsung, but the spec sheet below the sketch reveals that the phone will include a “Xenon flash,” which is a rare thing to see on smartphones and hasn’t yet quite caught on yet in the mobile market.

A Xenon flash is a lot better than conventional LED flash in the sense that a Xenon flash allows for much better low-light images. Xenon flashes provide a stronger burst of light, but they can’t be used when recording video, since they can’t be left on like an LED flash can. Nokia’s 808 PureView has a Xenon flash, which can capture much better photos in low-light conditions.

The sketch also reveals that the Galaxy Note III will have a dedicated camera shutter button, which is something that we don’t see on Samsung devices. The camera itself will sport a 13MP sensor that will most likely be the same sensor that’s in the Galaxy S 4, but we can’t be quite sure just yet.

The Galaxy Note III is said to be packing an Exynos Octa core processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 in different regions) with 2GB of RAM. There will also be a gargantuan 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a full 1080p HD resolution. To finish the job, the phablet will be running Android Jelly Bean, although we’re not sure if it’ll be version 4.2 or 4.3, but we should be finding out in a couple of months.

iPhone 5S leaked production shots point to IGZO display, NFC, more

iPhone 5S rumors are beginning to swell up as news that production is starting this month has been making the rounds. Unconfirmed leaked shots of iPhone 5S components have made their way online, as has the specs of the new device. Essentially, the phone won’t look any different from the iPhone 5 from what we see of the leaked photos, but there’s going to be quite a bit of new features in the new phone.

iphone_5_silver_0-580x4221

It’s said that the iPhone 5S will be rocking a 4-inch 1136×640 IGZO display, made by either Sharp or LG. The phone will also be equipped with NFC and a fingerprint scanner for security and privacy purposes. We also may be seeing a 12-megapixel rear camera on the iPhone 5S, complete with a dual LED flash.

As for the performance hardware, it’s rumored that we’ll see the same A6 chip that is in the iPhone 5, but at a higher clock with improved quad-core technology, as well as improved LTE. There’s also said to be 2GB of RAM and a larger battery this time around. Hopefully the power-savings of the IGZO display and the larger battery will give users a much longer battery life than the previous generation.

iphone5s1

None of this sounds too far-fetched (except maybe for the fingerprint scanner), but we’re taking all this with a grain of salt. Of course, we would love to see the iPhone 5S come with these upgrades, and from what we’ve heard, the iPhone 5S will be the biggest jump taken with an iPhone that has an “S” on the end, so it seems there’s a lot to look forward to.

It was rumored earlier this week that production of the iPhone 5S is starting this month, with an official launch coming later in the fall in either September or October. This wouldn’t be too surprising if true, but the prediction comes from Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek, who hasn’t been too accurate with his predictions in the past.

HTC One mini leaked and pulled [UPDATE: and published for real!]

It would seem that the folks at HTC do indeed have the HTC One mini – and that’s the name – in their system with a rather imminent release ready to roll. In a blog post posted then pulled this afternoon, the company suggested that there is indeed room for a smaller version of the hero smartphone HTC One out there in the wild, complete with infographic power to back it all up. Now that we’ve seen the smartphone itself, it’s time to hear the back story.

smaller

The HTC One mini has been suggested to bring a little body and a “BIG Punch”, leading us to believe that the look and the feel of the machine will be along for the ride – the same ride we saw them take a couple of times over the past several weeks. Here you’ll see the HTC official blog post as it sat moments before being pulled:

“The HTC One, by many accounts, is the pinnacle of smartphone achievement. The beautiful metal design, powerful hardware, and innovative user experience pack a lot into a svelte package, making it hit with critics and consumers alike. This success has only boosted our passion to bring the One experience to as many people as possible.

In that spirit, here’s an homage to little things that back a big punch.

Can you think of anything else that packs a big punch into a small package?”” – HTC

There’s an image that accompanied the post as well, one you can have a peek at in the gallery below amid several images leaked over the past few weeks of the device in question. It’s likely the HTC One mini will be appearing with a body that’s essentially a miniature version of the HTC One, bringing with it a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM.

The HTC One mini has been tipped to bring on a 4.3-inch display with 720p and a brightness and sharpness more than ready to take on the rest of the devices ringing in at that size range. Have a peek at the HTC One mini timeline below as well for more information on this imminent release.

BlackBerry A10 appears in video, 5-inch display and all

What you’re about to see would very much appear to be the next-generation BlackBerry smartphone code-named BlackBerry A10 Aristo. This device has been rumored to be the first BlackBerry 10 smartphone to be working with a 5-inch display, aiming to take on the likes of the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4 in the handheld market while the original BlackBerry Z10′s display size lacks punch. This device takes on an appearance much like the Z10, working instead with a white bar of plastic on its bottom instead of both its bottom and its top.

biggie

This device is not, in this case, joined by one whole heck of a lot of detail as we assume the videographer does not want to be identified as such. What we’re seeing here matches up quite well, on the other hand, with the tips for this device thus far. That’s the possibility of a 1280 x 720 resolution spilled over a 5-inch display with AMOLED technology and a very, very similar design language for the hardware as a whole.

The model of this device we’ve seen so far has been set for AT&T, while this video would appear to be filmed in Vietnam. It’s very possible that the first versions of the device would be constructed in Vietnam and still headed for the USA carried by AT&T, of course, but such a location could imply the machine were headed anywhere. BlackBerry’s main market concern at the moment is the USA.

lookin

This surfacing of images and video follows recent disheartening news from the company on their most recent quarterly earnings well inside the BlackBerry 10 era of smartphone devices. There’s been a BlackBerry Z10 subsidy increase after relatively terrible sales and a promise of BlackBerry 10.2 as BlackBerry 10.1 just hits the wild.

Meanwhile the BlackBerry Q5 is well on its way to the hands of consumers with Thorsten Heins, CEO of the company, suggesting that one more BlackBerry 7 device will be approaching soon. That device would be the BlackBerry 9720, an updated bit of hardware on the back of the QWERTY phones of old.

Both the BlackBerry A10 and BlackBerry 9720 are rumored to be hitting the market well within 2013.

iPhone plastic backs and buttons appear on factory floor

It’s once again time to look at the next iPhone, the “budget” model, as it were, with several different colors in store for the near future. This week it would appear that those responsible for manufacturing this next-generation model have let loose several different views of the machine, both from the inside and with its several buttons in full view. You’ll see a light blue, red, green, and yellow here, consistent with several recent leaks of the machine in kind.

d779ad15gw1e6j1j3fihlj20hs0fdmya

What’s being shown in the array of buttons in a pile here is the volume up-down rocker, the power/lock button, and the lock key. This lock is identified by the red line which appears when the machine’s lock is pulled up, this signifying the locking of the device – be it muted or orientation locked, whatever the user chooses. The red model would appear to be using a white indicator instead of the standard red.

d779ad15gw1e6jl0g0l7yj20nq0dbmzi

Meanwhile this same source, Benjamin’s Tech – aka Benjamin Franklin, oddly enough, shows five different colors for the next-generation lesser of the iPhones. Here we’ve got each matching the buttons above, red, yellow, blue, and green, as well as a standard white. These parts match up well with previous understanding that they’d have a back-facing camera and at least one LED flash bulb.

They’re also continuing to match previous leaks suggesting this “plastic” iPhone to be rolling out with a 4-inch display, much like the current iPhone 5. The big differences will be in the processor and the materials used to create the device, we must assume, while the smartphone itself will bring a rather similar experience in the software realm. It’ll be iOS 7 for all by the end of this year!

Moto X publicly dogfooded by Google’s Schmidt as leaks increase

Rumors of Motorola’s upcoming smartphone are heating up. Currently known as the Moto X, the device has been the victim of numerous leaks and speculation over the last several weeks, and today we’re seeing yet another addition. Google Chairman Eric Schmidt was spotted using a mysterious device that we can only suspect to be the Google-owned Moto X device.

Business Leaders Meet In Sun Valley, Idaho For Allen And Co. Annual Conference

At the annual Allen & Co. business conference yesterday, Schmidt was seen using a mysterious device that looks a lot like Motorola’s Moto X handset, based on the handful of image leaks that we’ve seen so far. The photos of Schmidt using the phone are highly detailed, allowing us a good look at the device that he doesn’t appear to be keeping on the down-low.

The model that Schmidt is using appears to have a slightly glossy rear white shell with a curved shape. The camera module and LED flash are placed prominently in the center of the device toward the top, with what looks to be the speaker directly next to the camera. We also see that the headphone jack is dead center on the top edge of the device, rather than on one side or the other.

Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Google, talks on the new yet to be released Google produced Moto X phone at the annual Allen and Co. conference in Sun Valley

As for the front of the device, it appears to be a solid slate of all black, but we can’t get a good look, seeing as how Schmidt’s ear is enveloping most of the phone. The volume rocker and the power button appear to be situated on the right edge of the device with thin chrome buttons. The edges of the phone look really thin, while the center is a bit thicker with its curved look, which is a rather unique shape for a smartphone these days.

The photos of Schmidt using this phone match up almost perfectly with the latest image leak of the device that shows a black matte model. It has the same curved rear shell with the camera module mounted in the same location, as well as the centered headphone jack on the top edge. One thing’s for sure: this phone exists, but the only question is what will it be called officially? And when is it arriving?
