BlackBerry Sues Its SVP Of Software Into Staying Another Four More Months Before Leaving For Apple

BlackBerry Sues Its SVP Of Software Into Staying Another Four More Months Before Leaving For AppleBack in 2013, BlackBerry’s SVP of Software, Sebastien Marineau-Mes, was offered a job at Apple and decided to formally vacate his role in December and tendered his resignation. It seemed like standard procedure but apparently BlackBerry wasn’t too pleased about it.

We’re not sure if they weren’t happy that one of their employees was being poached by Apple or if they were simply upset that he did not fulfill his contractual obligations, but they have since filed a lawsuit against Marineau-Mes, claiming that he would be breaching his contract by leaving for Apple. IRS Declares That Bitcoin Should Be Taxed Like A Property

IRS Declares That Bitcoin Should Be Taxed Like A PropertyOver in the US, the 15th of April is the deadline in which people will have to file their taxes. This is pretty much a non-issue for most people, but at the same time for those who have been trading Bitcoin, what does this mean for them? Should they file Bitcoin as currency, capital gains, or can it be taxed at all (we guess this is obvious since it can be considered a source of income, much like trading shares and gaining interest)?

These questions have been around for a while as governments have been working and trying to decide what to do about the crypto currency since it’s a relatively new thing and firm regulations have yet to be put into place. Well wonder no more because the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has since announced that Bitcoin is considered property and will be taxed in the same manner. (more…)

Tokyo District Court Rules Apple Did Not Infringe Upon Samsung’s Patents

Tokyo District Court Rules Apple Did Not Infringe Upon Samsungs PatentsApple and Samsung’s legal battles have spanned across many countries around the world, and so far both companies have won some and lost some. In the US, however, it looks like Apple might have won, and it seems that over in Tokyo, things aren’t going that well either for Samsung.

According to a recent ruling by Tokyo’s District Court, they have ruled that Apple did not infringe upon Samsung’s data communications patents and will not have to pay Samsung any damages. The lawsuit had originally targeted Apple’s iPad 2, iPhone 4, and the iPhone 4S. (more…)

Depart Of Justice Lands Conviction Against Android App Pirates

Depart Of Justice Lands Conviction Against Android App PiratesJust like normal software for computers, mobile apps can be pirated too, which is why the team Evad3rs received a lot of flak when they included the Taig Chinese store in their jailbreak which was found to play home to a lot of cracked and pirated apps. Unfortunately pirated mobile apps is an ongoing thing and we guess there are users out who find that $0.99 is still too dear of a price to pay.

That being said while we have heard of how courts have managed to land convictions for pirating movies and music, the same cannot be said for mobile apps, at least until recently where the Justice Department has managed to successfully land their first ever conviction against mobile app pirates. Judge Rules That IP Addresses Aren’t Conclusive Enough To Determine Pirate’s Identity

Judge Rules That IP Addresses Arent Conclusive Enough To Determine Pirates IdentityOne of the ways copyright holders are able to determine where copyright materials have been downloaded is by tracing the IP address, which in most cases usually reveals information about that person, like their name, phone number, home address, and so on.

For the most part that is how copyright holders, like record labels and movie studios, track down people who might have been pirating their property, such as through torrents. However in a recent ruling by a judge, it seems that he might have set a precedent in which IP addresses will start to lose their potential as a way of tracking down a pirate. (more…)
