LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System: They’ve got Legolas, We’ve got LEGONES

LEGO creations never cease to amaze me. You can do so much with these little plastic bricks. Is there anything they can’t do? Is there anything they can’t replicate? LEGO is all powerful!

lego nes 1

This has to be one of the neatest LEGO creations that I have seen in some time. It’s an amazing reproduction of the classic Nintendo Entertainment System, done up in stunning detail by weltall1028. It has the power button, the reset button, the A/V hookups. It’s all here. It even lights up when powered on.

The detail is so nice that you wonder if it can actually play games. It obviously can’t, but it makes you wonder.

LEGO Batman Cake: The Block Knight Ices

Fans of the LEGO Batman video games will appreciate the amazing amount of detail that went into this cake. I mean, we all know Gotham is a crap-hole of a city – despite the fact that Batman has been fighting crime there for like 100 years. He’s doing a great job, obviously. If he were a politician, he would have been fired ages ago. Except maybe in Chicago.

This cake has all of Gotham’s grime. Boards over the windows, trash on the street, grime of course, graffiti and the usual minifigs that you would see in a LEGO Batman game. There’s Catwoman, the Joker, The Riddler, Harley Quinn and of course the dynamic duo.

It was made by cake designer Elisa Strauss of Confetti Cakes for the game’s launch party. Awesome cake, but seriously Batman, Gotham should be crime free by now. You are a billionaire. You have no excuse.

LEGO Panda Bear: Why Isn’t This a Kit Yet?

As I scour the internet looking for wonderful creations to share with you, I occasionally come across something so magical that I think it needs to be made into a product you can buy. This is one of those times. What you’re looking at here is the world’s most awesome LEGO panda bear.

lego panda bear 1

It was created by Jumpei Mitsui, who knows a thing or two about LEGO bricks. You see, Jumpei is one of a handful of LEGO Certified Professionals, and if this jolly panda bear is any indication, it’s clear why he’s been honored with that distinction.

Jumpei, you should submit this design to LEGO Cuusoo, so there’s a chance that they’d actually turn it into a kit so we could all make one for ourselves. Heck, I could see a whole family of LEGO pandas in a variety of sizes.

Man, I just want to walk up to LEGO panda and rub his roly-poly belly. For some reason, I think that would be good luck.

This NES is a painstaking recreation of the real thing—and we reckon making it was perhaps even more fun than playing the old version of Final Fantasy you have lying around.

Building Bricks Slippers: Protection from Actual LEGO on the Floor

Protect your feet from LEGOs and the other hazards of a toy-filled home with one of ThinkGeek’s newest items, the Building Brick Slippers. Sure, you can build your own slippers from actual LEGO, but those wouldn’t be as comfortable as ThinkGeek’s footwear.

As you’ll see in the video below, the soles of the slippers even look like the bottom of LEGO bricks:

Build a browser window and head to ThinkGeek to buy the slippers. They’re available in red or blue and cost $25 (USD). Sadly they only come in one size, which is a shame because these would’ve made great gifts for kids.

One of the most painful feelings in the entire world is when you accidentally step onto a Lego brick with your bare foot. AGH the shooting needle of plastic is a horrific reminder of how much of a weakling your feet are. No worries though. For true Lego fanatics, they can turn to Lego brick house slippers.

LEGO Minecraft Sets “Nether” and “Village” appear at SDCC

So you’d like to get just a tiny bit closer to the second and third Minecraft LEGO sets to appear as part of the company’s CUUSOO initiative, would you? Lucky you, SlashGear is live in effect at SDCC 2013 and LEGO brought both sets out to see. Though we’re not going to actually get to play with these little amalgamations of gaming crossover magic, their cuteness remains highly apparent, even behind glass.

If you want to get a rather descriptive look at the first Minecraft LEGO set to be unleashed upon the world, have a peek at our original LEGO Minecraft set review. As for the new sets: they’re coming up powerful with many of the same features as the first. Both sets split up into four sections and are able to be constructed as prescribed or in any configuration the user does so choose.

NOTE: Though the first Minecraft LEGO set was indeed part of the fan-initiated vote-to-reality program known as CUUSOO, these 2nd and 3rd sets are out on their own. The first set was so popular, LEGO gave the green light to two more!

“Given our similarities, Minecraft and LEGO building have always been a great match. After the excitement over the first set, we were delighted to extend the line and continue our partnership with The LEGO Group. We can’t wait to see what the two communities create now that there are multiple LEGO Minecraft worlds to build and explore.” – Lydia Winters, Mojang’s director of fun

The Village will be coming in with odd characters like Pig, Villager, and Zombie to hack through both crops and plastic flesh at will, growing and attacking as they might. These characters are part of a series of beings LEGO calls the “Micromob”. According to LEGO on Wikia, Micromobs (one word, per the most recent LEGO press release), are a set of characters constructed of LEGO bricks, unique to the Minecraft LEGO universe (at least so far).

The Nether is a set that comes with hot lava in mind, with both the Minecraft Obsidian Portal and The Nether itself up for exploration with two more Micromob characters. You’ll get one Zombie Pigman and a double dose of Ghasts.

You’ll also find several slightly more massive iterations of these characters sitting around at the LEGO booth here at San Diego Comic-Con 2013. It doesn’t appear that these bits will be up for sale any time soon – but if LEGO did decide they wanted to send a few out, we certainly wouldn’t be mad. Both The Village and The Nether will be appearing on the 1st of September, 2013, for a retail price of $34.99 USD.

Here’s the New Lego Back to the Future Set

Here's the New Lego Back to the Future Set

This is the back of the box of the Lego Back to the Future set, which I got last week. While I’m still disappointed with how they made the hood, it’s still a nice set. That car’s front is easily fixable if you get some extra pieces—and the third movie’s car actually looks nice.

Unleash your inner Marty McFly with Lego’s Back to the Future set

DNP Unleash your inner Marty McFly with Lego's Back to the Future set

Back to the Future fans have waited with bated breath since Lego announced that it would soon rock their worlds with a fan-designed Cuusoo set, and now, we finally have a release date. On August 1st, Lego’s Back to the Future Time Machine will go on sale for $34.99 from select retailers, but an extremely limited quantity can be found at San Diego Comic Con, going on right now. The set includes our favorite time travelers (complete with Marty McFly’s cheeky grin and Doc Brown’s gravity-defying mane) and a DeLorean that can be customized to resemble the three different models from the trilogy. We have to say . . . Legos are cool and all, but we’re still holding out for a fully functional hoverboard.
