LEGO Stilettos: Better Than Stepping on LEGO with Your Bare Feet

Whoever said LEGO was for boys obviously hasn’t seen the LEGO purse (which I’d like to buy, if only they weren’t so expensive!) and these LEGO stilettos or stiLEGOs, for short.

lego stillettos

This colorful pair of footwear was made by artist Finn Stone, who took a pair of boring stilettos and stuck multi-colored LEGO bricks all over them.

It’s a great conversation starter and a pair you can actually wear, if you dare.

Finn’s not selling the pair he made, but you can make your own pair with some LEGO bricks and some super glue. Though you might have a hard time finding a shoe as big as this one:

Microsoft demos Lego Mindstorm EV3 platform using Surfacecontrolled robot

Robot toys aren’t what you’d normally expect from Microsoft’s developer-focused Build conference, but that’s just what the company served up today. In a chat about developer tools, Microsoft’s VP of Web Services Antoine Leblond demoed a version of Lego Education’s unreleased Mindstorms EV3 platform using — what else? — a brick-built robot and a Surface tablet. Citing the Win RT APIs that let users interact with device-specific protocols (i.e., USB, Bluetooth, etc.) Leblond was able to stream live video of his face, using a separate Windows tablet, to the tank-like franken-toy. All whimsy aside, this MS / Lego collaboration’s less about giving kids a neat, remote spying tool and more about making programming fun and approachable. You know, STEM stuff. And we’re all for it.

Behold the First Images of the Official Lego Back to the Future Set!

Behold the First Images of the Official Lego Back to the Future Set!

Brick News has obtained photos of the official Lego Back to the Future set, including the minifigs for Marty McFly and Doc Brown. As you can see, it’s more elaborated than the version approved by Lego Cuusoo although not as pretty. You’ll be able to create all the three versions of the car using the pieces in this set.

It'll Take Months to Get a Bride Out of This Lego Wedding Dress

Japanese artist Rie Hosokai, of Daisy Balloon, created this amazing piece of high Lego fashion for Tokyo’s "Piece of Peace" charity exhibit at the Parco Museum. Structurally it’s simply stunning (albeit a bit Disney Princessy). The construction, contour and shape are based on Hosokai’s balloon dress. As an item of haute couture, it’s not so utilitarian. But as an avant-garde work-of-Lego-art it’s simply stunning.

LEGO Purses: Carry Around a Bag of Bricks

We’ve seen some purses that looked like giant LEGO bricks before, but these are the first purses I’ve come across that are actually made from LEGO bricks.

These clutches have been made by sewing the bricks together and then lining the whole thing with satin. Its creator, Agnieszka Biernacka says it’s a very time-consuming process, but the end result is that the bricks are flexible but can’t fall apart.

I like how even the closure uses a LEGO brick which snaps in place to keep the contents of your purse secure. They’re available from agabag, with prices starting at $180(USD). They come in a variety of colors, and are also available in larger sizes and in custom designs like the Union Jack and U.S. flags shown below:

LEGO Game of Thrones Minifigs: Does Ned’s Head Pop off?

LEGO is a family-friendly brand, so I can say with a high degree of certainty that they’ll never release an official line of Game of Thrones minifigs. But that didn’t stop one enterprising LEGO fan from creating a line of custom Game of Thrones figures.

LEGO customizer miniBIGS has created this series of five Game of Thrones minifigs, including Eddard Stark, Jon Snow, Arya Stark, Tyrion Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen (complete with one of her baby dragons.) Each one is made using genuine LEGO parts, custom pad-printed similarly to how factory LEGO bricks are printed by Citizen Brick.

game of thrones daenarys lego minifig 300x250
game of thrones jon snow lego minifig 300x250
game of thrones tyrion lego minifig 300x250

Each of the minifigs perfectly captures the spirit of the characters from the TV series. I love the little wine cup for Tyrion, and how Arya has her needle. Though it seems as if they got stuck after season one. I mean, where’s Melisandre? What about Mance Rayder? Still I’d be happy if he even added an oversized Hodor minifig. And I want a Joffrey minifig, just so I can melt him in the oven. Hopefully, these guys are working on some more.

The individual figures sell for $15(USD) each, or you can grab the set of five for $65.

LEGO Death Star Trench Run: Okay Kid, Lets Build This Thing and Go Home

This is a dream come true. I’ve always wanted to see the Death Star Trench Run in LEGO, but never had the time or LEGO parts to build one myself. This is a pretty impressive build, complete with another Death Star standing watch on a game box next to it. That’s just a backup in case the rebels discover this very flaw in the design.

Flickr contributor Abathar photographed this model at the recent Brickworld LEGO convention in Chicago. It was built by Green Bay, WI LEGO fanatic Scott Vandeleest. Here are some more pics the guys at BrickWars-Sets shot of this epic build:

I love the way he used the ships, making it easy to reenact the scene again and again.

It even shows the missile firing into the exhaust port. Nice touch.

That detail is simply amazing. Great job, Scott!
