LEGO The Last of Us Would be an Awesome Game

If you are a fan of LEGO, video games, and zombies you will enjoy this video. The video was made by Brian Anderson, and it is awesome. It looks like professional grade animation done for a LEGO themed game.

lego last of us 620x390magnify

As the disclaimer at the start of the video says, the footage isn’t from any actual game, but if they made it I would totally play it. The game is loaded with themes from the popular game The Last of Us, with LEGO minifigs building the weapons they need to kill the tumor-laden bad guys.

As they beat them, the baddies give up LEGO coins. After all the bad guys are dead, the hero and his sidekick bust through the door only to reveal they’re not alone in the zombie apocalypse. Check out the video for yourself, it’s very cool.

While you’re at it, be sure to check out Brian’s LEGO Breaking Bad and LEGO The Dark Knight.

LEGO Joker’s Fun House: Wanna Know How I Got This Park?

Welcome to Mr. J’s carnival. You must be 1.5″ tall to ride. That’s because this is a LEGO diorama featuring the Clown Prince of Crime’s headquarters of sorts. Made by Paul “Brickbaron” Etherington, it contains lots of moving parts and depicts Batman and other characters in dire straits against Joker and other villains.

Paul built the diorama over a two-month period using a number of video game levels as his inspiration. Its moving parts are powered by LEGO Power Functions motors. There’s a lot going on here and lots of villains are present, including Joker’s zealot Harley Quinn, the Riddler and Two-Face. Batman is actually in three different scenes at once. He’s being harassed by goons at the entrance of the fun house, battling with Joker on a carnival ride and is also about to be caught by a huge jack-in-the-box. Best to watch it all in the video below:

The Joker’s Fun House won the Best in Show, Evil Genius and Honorable Mention in the People’s Choice awards at the 2013 Brickcon. You can see more of it on Paul’s Flickr page.

LEGO Mars Curiosity Rover Lands on New Year’s Day

Here’s a new year’s gift from LEGO that fans will appreciate. Start off 2014 with bricks, not a bang! This super sweet NASA Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover launches on New Year’s Day. Prepare to spend the day building it in your LEGO lair.

This 295-piece set was originally a design put up on the LEGO Cuusoo site as a fan-generated idea. What made this one stand out was that its designer was a mechanical engineer. That engineer was Stephen Pakbaz, who worked on the actual Curiosity. So he knows what he is doing. In other words, you won’t find a better version.

He has been working with LEGO ever since his design was accepted, making this version as close to the real thing as possible. The LEGO Curiosity Rover will retail for only $29.99(USD) in the LEGO Shoe when it launches on New Year’s Day.

3D Printed Jumbo LEGO Minifigs: Children of the Corn Starch

LEGO opened Cuusoo to let fans pitch ideas for play sets. But if you have a 3D printer, you don’t have to wait and beg for a minifig of your favorite character. Just do what Michael “Skimbal” Curry did and make the minifigs yourself. Skimbal even made his minifigs four times larger than the official LEGO citizens.

Skimbal started with a blank jumbo minifig and went wild from there. Although he hasn’t shared new models for about a month now, he already has several popular characters ready for you to download.

See that headcrab zombie minifig? Half-life 3 is a better bet than an official LEGO version of that. Or maybe not. I may be underestimating Valve Time. Print a browser then head to Thingiverse to download Skimbal’s minifig 3D models.

This Full-size LEGO Car is Powered by Air

LEGO expert Raul Oaida and Steve Sammartino have built themselves the stuff of childhood dreams for many LEGO builders. I know I wanted to build a full-size car I could drive around the neighborhood more times than I can count. Their incredible black and yellow LEGO hot rod consists of over half a million bricks.

This is very cool indeed and the project is known as the Super Awesome Micro Project. It’s unclear exactly how the LEGO-based motor of the car works, but it is said to run on compressed air. The engine has four radial units with 256 pistons. The car isn’t made completely from LEGO, there are some structural pieces, wheels, and tires. I would assume there is some sort of frame that isn’t LEGO.

The car can cruise at speeds of up to 18MPH. It might be able to go faster, but they won’t drive it any faster because of its fragile nature. The car was taken from a concept design to a finished product in 20 months. Incredibly, Oaida built it in Romania, and shipped it to Sammartino for final assembly in Melbourne, Australia.

Amazing LEGO Rapidash Pokémon: Setting Fire to the Bricks

What could be more amazing than a Pokémon whose tail and mane are made of fire? I’m talking about Rapidash of course. Well, since this fiery horse doesn’t really exist, this LEGO version is the best thing ever. It may not be able to run so fast that flames burst from its back and legs, but you can practically see it happening in the image here.

This amazing LEGO Pokémon was made by Mike Nieves aka Retinence. The look is just amazing. I would love to see a stop-motion LEGO pokemon movie with Mike’s creations.

Awesome job, sir. You are a true Pokémon and LEGO master. Ash is just a wuss.

CERN Hid Lego Figurines All Over During Its Google Street View Shoot

CERN Hid Lego Figurines All Over During Its Google Street View Shoot

If simply getting a peek inside the guts of CERN isn’t cool enough, the lab’s computer security officer, Stefan Lüders, has a secret treat for the nerds among us. Just before Google Street View came to visit, he and his crew hid Lego figurines all over CERN’s Computing Center. About 20 of them—including aliens, a leprechaun, and a pharaoh—are now lurking, hidden in Google Street View.
