LG G Pro 2 Specs & News, Pre-MWC Overview

LG G Pro 2 Specs & News, Pre MWC OverviewA couple of years ago, we guess you could say that Samsung pioneered the phablet category when it announced the first Samsung Galaxy Note. The device featured a 5.3-inch display, which at that time was considered to be pretty massive. However fast forward to today, many companies have no qualms about releasing phones with large displays.

In fact we have seen how companies like Sony and Hisense push the boundaries with phone whose displays are larger than that of 6-inches. That being said, it looks like at MWC 2014, we can look forward to additional phablets, and one of them could be from LG, Samsung’s biggest rival back home, who recently confirmed that there will be an LG G Pro 2 that will most likely be unveiled at MWC 2014. Alleged LG G Pro 2 Photos Leaked

654781480_5e229f56_imageSo we know that according to LG, there is an LG G Pro 2 which will be the successor to last year’s LG G Pro, the South Korean company’s answer to Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3. That being said while we do know of the device’s existence, its specs and how it actually looks like remains something of a mystery, at least until recently where a pair of alleged LG G Pro 2 photos was leaked and made their way onto the internet, courtesy of a post on the DC Inside forum in South Korea. The photos aren’t much to look at and for all we know could have been easily photoshopped, but until proven otherwise, we’ll assume, with a degree of skepticism, that these are indeed photos of the upcoming handset. AT&T LG G Flex Has Arrived

lg-g-flex_06If you have been on the lookout for the LG G Flex, then you would be pleased to take note that the smartphone is already available via AT&T, not too soon after its pre-orders went live last week. Of course, as for our friends who happen to live across the pond, you need not fret, since the LG G Flex is tipped to arrive at over 20 different countries in Europe. T-Mobile users will have to be a little bit more patient though since their LG G Flex will only arrive next month, clearly giving AT&T a head start among the rest of the major mobile carriers in the market.

LG G Pro 2 Is Official, Will Debut In February

lg-optimus-g-pro-review--23Earlier in 2013, LG announced their then flagship device, the LG G Pro. Given the time of the release, it was meant to compete against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Well it looks like LG could be deploying the same strategy that they used back in 2013 and compete against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with an upcoming handset, the LG G Pro 2. The LG G Pro 2 has been rumored about for a while now, but it looks like LG has decided to put the rumors to rest by officially announcing the device’s existence, although exactly what sort of hardware the handset packs under the hood remains a mystery for now.

LG’s official announcement basically states that we can look forward to its unveiling in February 2014, although LG declined to provide any specific dates. However given that MWC 2014 is taking place in February, chances are that could be when we might be able to look forward to learning more about the device. Based on what we know from the rumors, the LG G Pro 2 is said to feature a 6” display with a Full HD resolution. A bit odd given that high-end smartphones are starting to turn to 2K display resolutions, although we guess it could help cut costs, not to mention the Note 3’s resolution is Full HD as well, so perhaps LG thinks that is good enough. Other rumored specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 3GB of RAM to accompany it. Other specs such as its camera, software, and additional features remain unknown, but hopefully additional details will be revealed in the near future.

LG’s Mobile Division Announces Operating Loss For Q4 2013

lg-logo-001-640x480When it comes to smartphones, both Samsung and LG are probably the two biggest names out of South Korea, although it would seem that Samsung has the edge. However back in Q3 2013, LG appeared to be doing quite well and actually reported a profit of 43 billion won, which is roughly $39.7 million when converted, however the South Korean company could not maintain those profits and saw Q4 2013 take a loss where they reported an operating loss of 56 billion won, which is around $51.7 million after conversion.

This is a bit odd given that LG had actually sold more phones than they did last year, where they managed to sell 13.2 million phones in the quarter which was about 54% higher than the same period back in 2012, and a gain of 8.3% from Q3 2013, so how can LG sell more phones but make a loss? There are many factors one has to take into consideration, although in LG’s case, it seems that they ended up spending more than they made.

According to their report, LG had actually spent a fair amount of money marketing phones like the LG G2 and the LG G Flex which ended up negating that amount of phones actually sold. Will LG make the same mistake this quarter? We certainly hope not.
