LG WebOS TV Will Be Unveiled At CES 2014

WebOS couldn’t make its mark on tablets and smartphones when Palm and HP both tried their best, perhaps it might fare well on TVs. After being on a long hiatus, and being picked up by LG, a new webOS product is on the horizon. LG has confirmed that its very first product running this OS is a TV, which is going to be unveiled next month at the Consumer Electronics Show 2014 in Las Vegas.

Hong Sung-pyo, a LG researcher, made these comments at an event in Seoul, South Korea. It is believed that the LG webOS TV is going to have a 2.2Ghz dualcore processor under the hood with 1.5GB of RAM. Multitasking features will reportedly be supported. There’s no saying what the webOS user interface will look now, LG had previously confirmed that it was revamping the interface and that it would be a “game changer.” Perhaps we might see the “cards” interface being resurrected in some form, but its too soon to be sure right now. LG’s reason to put so much time and resources into a new TV OS is that users will no longer feel compelled to use third-party set-top boxes, that they’ll have a much better experience through its webOS powered smart TV. This is not all LG has up its sleeve for CES 2014, if this doesn’t tickle your fancy, perhaps the company’s 105 inch curved ultra HD TV will.

LG intends to wow the CES 2014 crowd with first 105” Curved Ultra HD TV in the world

lg-105ub9The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas has always been the place for companies to roll out and showcase their latest technologies, hoping to wow the masses along the way. Having said that, we have seen some pretty impressive releases in the past, and the TV segment always does seem to have something new for everyone. For next year’s edition of CES, the folks over at LG has lined up another world’s first, which is their LG 105UB9, where in plain English, it would be better known as the first 105” Curved Ultra HD TV in the world.

Sure, there has been larger sized TVs revealed in the past such as those from Mitsubishi and Panasonic that ran on different technologies such as plasma, but those did not have any curves that the LG 105UB9 comes with. At such a large size, you will be able to enjoy magnificent picture quality as well as a wide viewing angle, where the Ultra HD TV itself will be able to render even the most minute detail in breathtaking clarity so that you, the viewer, will be able to enjoy an unprecedented level of viewer immersion.

Apart from that, the LG 105UB9’s cinematically proportioned 21:9 CinemaScope screen makes it perfect for enjoying movies the way they were meant to be shown on the silver screen. Not only that, it will also let you check out viewing information on the side of the screen without having to suffer the ignominy of that blocking any of the ongoing action. The LG 105UB9 will boast of 11 million pixel (5120 x 2160) screen resolution, which are far more pixels than you can shake a stick at compared to a regular Full HD TV. As for pricing details, that remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure – it is not going to come cheap considering the kind of technology that it comes with.

LG Says Bigger Is Better, 105-Inch LG Curved Ultra HD TV To Hit CES 2014

LG Says Bigger Is Better, 105 Inch LG Curved Ultra HD TV To Hit CES 2014Is bigger necessarily better? The folks over at LG certainly think so when it comes to their TVs, having announced that they will unveil the 105” LG Curved Ultra HD TV at CES 2014 which is happening in slightly more than a fortnight’s time. This is a world’s first, considering how it comes with a 21:9 aspect ratio, and with the groundbreaking 105” size when measured diagonally, you know for sure that the 105UB9 is all set to be the officially largest curved TV ever made to date. LG did venture into such territory before, hitting the 77” curved OLED TV in September earlier this year, and to see the leap made to 105” is certainly nothing short of breathtaking.

LG claims that the 105UB9’s cinematically proportioned 21:9 CinemaScope screen makes it perfect for you to skip the cinemas and just stay at home to watch your favorite movies after they have been released on Blu-ray, right in the comfort of your own bean bag. Apart from that, such a wide screen allows users to access viewing information on the side of the screen without having any of the menus block the on-screen action. The LG 105UB9 will come with a whopping 11 million pixel (5120 x 2160) screen resolution, and do expect this bad boy to cost a pretty penny when it arrives. Of course, we have seen larger displays before like 150″ monsters from Panasonic and Mitsubishi, but those run on now-ancient technology and certainly do not boast of such high resolution.

New LG Smartphones To Ship With BBM Pre-Installed

New LG Smartphones To Ship With BBM Pre Installed

It took a long time for BlackBerry to figure out that to preserve its once iconic messaging service, it had to open BBM to other platforms. The company finally did this a few months back and the initial response was great, with over 20 million users signing up across iOS and Android in the first week alone. The momentum might have slowed down since then, but BlackBerry remains committed to competing against behemoths like WhatsApp and Viber. It has scored another win, LG has agreed to pre-install BBM on its new smartphones in a variety of markets around the world.

The LG G Pro Lite will be the first smartphone from the Korean manufacturer to come with BBM straight out of the box. Andrew Bocking, EVP for BBM at BlackBerry said that the company is extremely pleased that LG is going to bring a seamless BBM experience to their customers with the G Pro Lite “in key markets.” He doesn’t go into detail about the markets where BBM will come pre-installed on LG smartphones. That said, BlackBerry reiterates its commitment to the messenger and says that it will continue to evolve for both iOS and Android in the coming months. This isn’t the first OEM deal that BlackBerry has secured, it already has a similar arrangement in place with various OEMs that exclusively service markets such as India, Indonesia, Latin America and the Middle East, where BlackBerry still holds its weight.

chromebaseLG’s current foray into the Android device market happens to be limited to just smartphones, phablets and tablets, but it seems that they are also taking off in a different tangent with Google’s Chrome operating system through the introduction of the all-in-one Chromebase computer. The Chromebase is a computer that will run on the Google Chrome operating system, where it will also be showcased at CES 2014 which is set to happen sometime next month. The LG Chromebase will bear the model number 22CV241, where it will offer the highly efficient Chrome operating system for a fast, simple, secure and affordable computing experience.

Apart from that, the Chromebase would feature a 21.5” widescreen Full HD IPS display that ought to pack in its fair share of pixels, so much so that your eyes will be able to appreciate all that you see there. The entire physical form factor of the LG Chromebase, too, will be pleasing to the eye, and it would not look out of place be it in your living room, in a bedroom, or over on an office desk.

Basically, this is an email writing machine, and will also work great for word processing tasks as well as simple spreadsheet crunching. Not only that, it will also have seamless functionality with other Google products including the likes of Gmail, Drive, Search, Maps, YouTube, Play and Google+ Hangouts.

LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition Receives Android 4.4.2 UpdateIt was exactly a week ago that the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition was announced to the masses, and the device did come with Android 4.4 KitKat installed right out of the box to get you started. Well, it is nice to hear that just one week after the device’s announcement, the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update has been released for the tablet, following in the footsteps of the HTC One Google Play Edition as well as the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition which received a similar Android 4.4.2 KitKat update over the weekend.

This particular update will be made available via Over The Air (OTA), and the new firmware version would be Android 4.4.2/KOT49H, which would allow it to be up to date with the existing range of Nexus devices. So far, we have not gotten any wind concerning the official changelog of the update, so it remains to be seen whether any of the bugs in the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition will be squashed or corrected. Of course, just like any other OTA updates, this particular one will roll out to users in stages, and if you do not have the patience to wait, just download it directly from Google’s servers before performing a manual flash procedure.
