CES 2014 is set to be another time of exciting news as well as the unveiling of additional consumer electronics devices that will (hopefully) blow the world away, and the folks over at LG intend to make the most of it by announcing that they will roll out their all new 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor. Of course, just in case you do not need such a large monitor for your use, there is also the 29” model to choose from. Needless to say, your eyes will definitely appreciate the stunning image clarity courtesy of the UltraWide QHD resolution (3440 x 1440) that is found on the display.
A larger monitor more often than not equals to improved productivity, sort of anyways. After all, you have more stuff to look at with a single glance, that you should be able to work more effectively, right? It is said that in South Korea, such monitors are marketed as the equivalent of two 4:3 monitors to boost “productivity”. The inclusion of Thunderbolt 2 connectivity in the UM95 would also go some way in making sure that users who use such technology are able to take advantage of it, supporting high-resolution displays and high-performance data devices simultaneously via a single, compact port. This means you can theoretically enjoy transfer speeds of up to 20Gbps, while viewing and editing original 4K video with a file backup running at the same time.
All in all, we have also seen such monitors make an appearance in one of LG’s more recent advertisements that poke some good natured fun at us men, touting that we are unable to multitask. [Press Release]
LG Introduces New 34-Inch IPS Monitor original content from Ubergizmo.
Earlier this year, LG introduced some new UltraWide monitors, a category the company will be expanding soon with the debut of the UM95 at CES 2014. The UltraWide UM95 monitor measures in at 34-inches with a quite expansive 21:9 aspect ratio, though the company will also be offering a smaller version that measures 29-inches. Beyond […]
Many analysts expect various smartphone manufacturers to join forces in order to effectively challenge the two behemoths that have a firm grasp on the global smartphone market, Apple and Samsung. Various possible mergers have been rumored before, but none have emerged so far. Local Korean media has circulated a few rumors that LG might be looking into a partnership with Chinese manufacturer Huawei. However, LG has confirmed directly to Ubergizmo that both companies haven’t had talks as yet and that LG is in no mood of entering into a partnership right now, with anyone for that matter.
The reports which claimed that LG was seeking a merger quoted analysts who believe that to bolster its “fragile” smartphone business, LG is open to teaming up with Huawei. On the face of it, a partnership between the two doesn’t look too bad. Huawei has a firm grasp on the low-end segment of the market in particular regions, whereas LG is known for its superbly made high-end devices like the G2 and the Nexus 5, devices that enjoy exposure to all major global markets. Despite what most people would call an obvious advantage, LG says that no discussions are or have taken place with Huawei on any aspect of its business. Would the company consider a partnership, with Huawei or any other OEM in the future? Time will tell, but for now, it is flying solo.

Spotify announced last week they would be offering an ad-supported version of its popular music streaming service on mobile devices, but it seems that’s not the only bit of good news they had for us this month. LG Smart TV owners will be getting Spotify as LG says it will be making its dedicated app available to all 2013 model Smart TVs, although the service will only be available to premium account holders. Yes – this means in order to use Spotify on your LG Smart TV, you’ll have to be a subscriber to Spotify as there currently isn’t an ad-supported version of the service for smart TVs. (more…)

Good news LG G2 owners, if you were afraid that LG might abandon you guys and not bother updating you to Android 4.4 KitKat ,fret not as LG has announced that the LG G2 handset will be seeing the Android 4.4 KitKat update starting this month. However there is a kicker, which is that the update will only begin seeding to Korean LG G2 owners first starting this month. LG has promised a rollout by the end of the month for those who own the Korean variant of the handset, but neglected to mention when the rest of the world can look forward to their KitKat update.
However given that updates in the US where carriers are usually a hurdle that OEMs need to overcome, we expect that even if it were announced for international markets, the update would have to pass through the carriers in the US before it is pushed out to devices in the US. Alternatively one could always download a custom ROM, like CyanogenMod 11 for their handsets, although this would require that the user know a bit of rooting and all that, which means that not everyone will want to or be able to do it themselves. Hopefully LG will have more news for international LG G2 owners in the near future, so check back with us soon for more updates.

At the end of last week, we did talk about a rumored new smartphone from the folks over at LG, where it pointed to a LG Gx that supposedly comes with a 5.5” display. Well, we are glad to say that this particular smartphone is now made available to the masses over in South Korea with the official announcement of the LG Gx. This handset will come with a 5.5” IPS display with a resolution count of 1080 x 1920 pixels. Underneath the hood, the LG Gx will not be found wanting at all, where it boasts of a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor with 2GB RAM, 32GB of internal memory, a 13-megapixel camera at the back with a 2.1-megapixel shooter at the back.
Apart from that, it comes with a 3,140mAh removable battery, and we have no idea on the version of Jelly Bean that it will run on. What is confirmed, however, is that the LG Gx would arrive with 2.6GHz broadband 4G LTE service support, and all of the hardware has been crammed into a 150.6mm x 76.1mm x 9.2mm chassis, tipping the scales at 167 grams. You will be able to choose from white and black shades, and it costs at least $800 as an unlocked device over in South Korea. [Translated Page]

LG G Flex For Sprint Leaked
Posted in: Today's ChiliIt wasn’t too long ago that LG announced the LG G Flex, the company’s answer to Samsung’s Galaxy Round as far as smartphones with flexible displays were concerned. We had heard the LG was planning a global launch that is slated for December and thanks to a recently leaked image by the ever-reliable @evleaks, it seems that what we are looking at above is a press rendering for the device that appears to be headed onto Sprint’s network. It has been expected that the G Flex will make its way onto multiple carriers, so if the rendering above is true, Sprint will be one of them.
So far we have also heard reports that the G Flex could make its way onto the likes of AT&T and T-Mobile as well, thanks to a sighting of the device at the FCC, although none of the major carriers in the US have officially announced the device’s availability yet. The handset has already been released in Korea, unsurprisingly given that LG is a Korean tech company, but it will be interesting to see its reception outside of the Korean market. According to reports, the Samsung Galaxy Round has managed about 10,000 units sold so far, which isn’t that impressive but understandable given the phone’s novelty value, so we can’t wait to see if the LG G Flex will succeed where Samsung didn’t. What do you guys think?

Nexus 5 Hardware Subtly Revised
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe Nexus 5, developed by Google in collaboration with LG, was one of the most hotly anticipated smartphones of 2013. Given its particularly attractive off contract price point and impressive specifications, the device was very well received. While there exist no major issues with the batch of Nexus 5 units already shipped to hundreds of thousands of customers around the globe, it appears that subtle hardware revisions have been made which are noticeable on recently shipped units. The revisions tend to scattered complaints of “rattling” volume and power buttons, muffled sound through speakers and a protruding SIM tray.

Just a few months ago, LG France accidentally confirmed its LG Optimus G would be receiving Android 4.4 KitKat some time in October, although if you’re an owner of the 1-year-old Android smartphone, you’re probably well aware KitKat has yet to come your way. In fact, November came and went and still no Android 4.4 KitKat, but December looks like it’s the sweet month as the latest version of Android has started to roll out for the LG Optimus G. (more…)
