LG G Flex Review

Every new niche has to start somewhere, and LG says the G Flex is the start of the flexible smartphone revolution. Why should our phones be flat when everything else around us is curved, so the company’s theory goes, with ambitious dreams of folding handsets and collapsable tablets in the next decade. Today, though, the […]

LG G Flex kicks off a global rollout

lg-g-flexAre all smartphones created equal? That is a question that is certainly worth answering, and when it comes to the LG G Flex, you know for sure that you are staring down at something extra special. In fact, the LG G Flex has been boasted to be the first curved, flexing and self-healing smartphone in the world, which are definitely claims that would be rather difficult to live up to for other smartphone manufacturers, don’t you think so? If you have been hankering after the LG G Flex for the longest time but happen to reside outside of South Korea, fret not – this smartphone will be made available to the masses for the first time worldwide.

Expect the LG G Flex to address the global market by kicking off its release in Singapore and Hong Kong first, which makes perfect sense. Both of those countries come with extremely mature markets, not to mention folks who find it easy to spend plenty of dough at one time on a smartphone. Other key markets in Asia will also carry an availability announcement soon, where it ought to hit the respective markets before the year is over, prior to other regions.

When the LG G Flex was first introduced, it did its job in captivating early adopters everywhere, as this happened to be the first smartphone that has been curved to follow the contour of the human face. Of course, such a task was made possible thanks to the implementation of the world’s first curved smartphone battery. Not only that, it is also equipped with a durable plastic OLED (P-OLED) HD display, alongside a back that would have its very own healing factor. Yes sir, the LG G Flex will boast of a self-healing back cover which will make sure that those pesky day-to-day scratches are a thing of the past, making it look as pristine as possible. I do wonder how it will fare in a pocket full of keys and coins, though.

LG: Flexible Displays Will Account For 40% Of The Market In 2018

LG: Flexible Displays Will Account For 40% Of The Market In 2018It was only a few years ago that companies such as Samsung were demonstrating displays that were flexible, and while it was rumored for a while, the fruition of their efforts were realized this year with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Round and the LG G Flex, both of which have gone on sale to regular consumers, as opposed to merely being prototypes or concepts. While both devices do feature pretty curved displays, they are still somewhat rigid and apart from novelty value, there really isn’t much use to owning one at the moment. However LG feels that come 2018, smartphones with flexible displays will command a whopping 40% of the market, which basically means that almost one out of 2 devices will have such a display.

Why is LG so confident that this will be happening? Well apparently they seem to think that handsets with curved or flexible displays tend to feel better since they conform more with the curves of your hand, as opposed to being a solid block of plastic/metal. However like we said, Samsung and LG’s efforts right now aren’t exactly considered “flexible”, but rather devices with the curvature of its display being extremely pronounced, so apart from bragging rights, these phones pretty much function almost similar to current smartphones. Will phones with flexible displays truly be the choice of the future? Or will curved/flexible displays end up like 3D phones?

LG: Curved smartphones like G Flex 40% of market by 2018

Flexible smartphones will dominate 40-percent of the smartphone market by 2018, LG predicts, billing the LG G Flex with its curved 6-inch AMOLED display as the first of a new breed of handsets. “We got bored of flat” LG‘s Dr Ramchan Woo, head of mobile product planning, said of the motivation behind the G Flex, […]

LG G Flex Kicks Off Global Rollout, Hits Key Asian Markets First

LG G Flex Kicks Off Global Rollout, Hits Key Asian Markets FirstWe already had a hands-on with the LG G Flex sometime earlier last month, where we also know that the LG G Flex is set to be launched globally within this year. Well, we are glad to announce that such a day has finally arrived, where the first curved, flexing and self-healing smartphone in the world is now available to the masses outside of South Korea for the first time. It will hit key Asian markets (read: where the population have the financial firepower to pick it up without second thoughts) first such as Singapore and Hong Kong later this week.

Just to recap, the LG G Flex will feature a durable plastic OLED (P-OLED) HD display, in addition to a self-healing back cover which would make Wolverine proud, as it might just meant the end of day-to-day scratches. We simply cannot wait to test it out for ourselves in the long run to see whether it will be able to live up to its claims. Those who are in Singapore can place their pre-orders for the LG G Flex from December 8 onward, while folks in Hong Kong will have to wait for five more days before being able to wrap their hands around it then.

Mysterious LG D830 Shows Up In User Agent Profile

Mysterious LG D830 Shows Up In User Agent Profile

As far as flagship devices are concerned, LG’s own flagship for 2013 is the LG G2, with its slightly lower specced sibling in the form of the Nexus 5. So what does LG have planned for 2014? We can only assume that we will be seeing a new flagship device, and thanks to LG’s user agent profile, a certain LG D830 has been sighted, although apart from its display resolution which is set at 1920×1080, not much else is known. However given its Full HD display which seems to be standard amongst high-end devices, it could be safe to assume that the D830 is one of LG’s higher-end products.

The LG G2 goes by the model number D802, while the LG G Flex is the DX6xx, indicating that this device will not be of the flexible variety. The closest model number of the D830 is the Nexus 5 which goes by D820, but it does seem a tad early for Nexus 6 rumors right? After all it hasn’t been too long ago that the Nexus 5 was released.  Could it be that we might be looking at an updated Nexus 5? That wouldn’t really make much sense either, and at the same time could anger many Nexus 5 customers who could feel slightly cheated by this move. Either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled, but with CES and MWC 2014 around the corner, perhaps more will be revealed then.

LG V510 Tablet Might Be The Nexus 8

LG V510 Tablet Might Be The Nexus 8

There has been a lot of speculation about the Nexus 10 2013, particularly about its release, because Google hasn’t dropped any hints about the tablet as yet. So far the company has released refreshed models of its Nexus smartphone and Nexus 7 tablet, it is yet to unveil a refreshed Nexus 10. Some believe that the tablet might be manufactured by LG, and previously a codename had emerged which was attached with the tablet. Though as per a service manual that has surfaced in China, the LG V510 might be the much rumored Nexus 8 and not the Nexus 10 as initially believed.

The service manual reveals that LG V510 has an 8.3 inch display, so this can’t obviously be the Nexus 10 if the manual is indeed legitimate. The V510 is said to have a 1,920×1,200 pixel resolution display with a 2GB RAM, 4,600mAh battery, 5 megapixel rear and 1.3 megapixel front facing camera. The dimensions of the V510 are quite similar to LG’s G Pad 8.3 tablet, so there’s a possibility that this might be regional variant of that tablet, because the leaked service manual doesn’t contain any Nexus branding. Google hasn’t even confirmed the manufacturing partner for the Nexus 10 tablet, it was rumored that the tablet might be unveiled today on Cyber Monday, but so far nothing has come out from Mountain View. LG Canada says G2 will get Android 4.4 KitKat by March

    LG G2

LG G2 owners may have to wait a while to get the Android 4.4 KitKat software that their Nexus 5-toting counterparts already enjoy. A spokesperson for the company’s Canadian branch informs MobileSyrup that the G2 should get its KitKat upgrade late in the first quarter of 2014 — in other words, March. While that will disappoint early adopters, LG does note that every local carrier will receive the update at about the same time. Whether or not Americans will see the new OS any sooner is another matter. We’ve asked the company about its US upgrade schedule, and we’ll let you know if it can provide some details.

LG Electronics unveils LG Tone Ultra

lg-ultra-toneIn this fast paced world of technology, you can never quite tell just when will the next big thing hit the market, although there has been duds and surprises in the past. Headsets or headphones are not exactly the most exciting kind of peripherals when you think about it, but this does not mean that changes made to it have been slow. No sir, here we are with LG Electronics rolling out the LG Tone Ultra, and it so happens to be the most recent version of its extremely popular Bluetooth stereo headset. If you have a penchant for model numbers, then the LG Tone Ultra is easier referred to as the HBS-800. Do not expect it to be a normal headset, as it will be feature packed to the brim, and will definitely be able to continue from where its predecessor, the LG Tone (HBS-700/730) left off.

As to whether the LG Tone Ultra will be able to sell more than two million units as did the original LG Tone remains to be seen. Still, here is what we do know about the LG Tone Ultra – it was specially developed in order to deliver a superior audio experience alongside eyebrow-raising stereo sound. Through the use of noise reduction technology that they have called ambient noise cancellation (ANC), the LG Tone Ultra will be able to do its bit to block out background noise, so that you, the listener, are able to to focus on the music or conversation without any distractions in the background.

Apart from that, LG’s special around-the neck design has also been improved in the LG Tone Ultra as it adopts the ergonomic 3D Neck Behind design that can be found in previous models. Not only that, it will be able to be paired to any Bluetooth-supported device, ranging from smartphones to tablets and notebooks, while the unique multiple access function lets two Bluetooth devices to connect to the Tone Ultra simultaneously. Pricing details remain to be determined, but it should arrive later next month in selected territories.
