LG Tone Ultra Bluetooth Stereo Headset Announced

LG Tone Ultra Bluetooth Stereo Headset AnnouncedThe folks over at LG Electronics have just announced the most recent version of the popular Bluetooth stereo headset, calling it the LG TONE ULTRA – or the HBS-800 if model numbers are your cup of tea. The LG TONE ULTRA would arrive chock full with features, and it will definitely look set to bring listeners to greater heights as it succeeds its predecessor, the LG TONE (or the HBS-700/730), which was also a top-seller in its own right with over 2 million units sold ever since it was introduced in 2010.

The LG TONE ULTRA was specially developed to target a superior audio experience that boasts of eyebrow-raising stereo sound. Thanks to the adoption of noise reduction technology that they have called ambient noise cancellation (ANC), the LG TONE ULTRA is able to block out background noise, so that you, the listener, will be able to enjoy 100% focus on the music or conversation itself without any external distractions. Not only that, it also comes with an ergonomic 3D Neck Behind design that can be found in previous models, and it has also picked up a 2013 Red Dot Design Award that truly recognizes its ergonomics and aesthetic appeal. Expect it to arrive before the year is over in various regions worldwide. [Press Release

LG G2 Android 4.4 Update Coming Late Q1, 2014 In Canada

LG G2 Android 4.4 Update Coming Late Q1, 2014 In Canada

LG’s latest Android flagship smartphone, the G2, has brought in rave reviews. The device has been appreciated by Android enthusiasts around the world, and those who have already picked up a unit for themselves are anxiously waiting for Android 4.4 KitKat to drop. So far there hasn’t been any indication when the update is going to be released in the U.S., though word has arrived from LG Canada. Court Elliot, a representative for the company in Canada, says that LG G2 Android 4.4 update is going to be released in late Q1, 2014, which means possibly by the end of March next year.

Elliot also says that all carriers in the country are going to receive the update at the same time, though that doesn’t mean all carriers are going to release the update at the same time as well. Some carriers tend to test out the updates a little longer before rolling them out. The representative across the border did not comment on when the update is going to be released for LG Optimus G, the company’s former flagship which is currently running on Android 4.1.2. Those who are using the Verizon variant of the device in the U.S. can try out KitKat right now through an unofficial custom ROM.

LG G Flex Global Release Reportedly Slated For Early December

LG G Flex Global Release Reportedly Slated For Early December

LG appears to be much more serious about its flexible smartphone, the G Flex, as opposed to the Samsung Galaxy Round. The latter is said to be a prototype of sorts which has only been released in extremely limited quantity in Korea, global launch is not expected. On the other hand LG has already talked about its plans of taking the G Flex around the world, and the release might kick off from early December. Latest reports suggest that LG is holding a launch event of the device on December 3rd in Hong Kong which will mark the global release of the device. Invitations for this event have reportedly been sent out.

The timeframe sits around Orange’s proposed timeframe for selling the G Flex in France, and possibly in other European markets as well. The global release will not bring the device Stateside immediately, it is likely that the G Flex might become available from AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile in early 2014. By then, it is possible that LG might roll out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the G Flex. LG’s flexible smartphone is the first commercially available device that has a 6 inch 1,280×720 pixels curved flexible display as well as a “self-healing” back that even survives knife attacks. Engadget’s smartphone buyer’s guide: fall 2013

    Engadget's smartphone buyer's guide: fall 2013

As the leaves turn to gold and flutter from the trees, the Engadget team digs out their scarves and mittens to get ready for the mad rush of phone launches that take place ahead of the holiday season. We’ve seen big devices (both large and high-profile ones) enter the world over the last few months, including new heavyweights from Apple and Google. Then there’s Samsung, Nokia and HTC, which are all following the philosophy that bigger is better.

But it’s not just on the hardware side that things are getting exciting. T-Mobile’s eliminated roaming charges and Verizon is doubling its LTE speeds to a whopping 80 Mbps. AT&T is offering customers a $5 daily pass for internet and is making mobile share plans the standard rather than the exception. Of course, if you’d prefer unlimited data, Sprint is promising that its Spark LTE will beat the field — but it’s currently only available in NYC, LA, Chicago, Tampa and Miami. Whether you’re looking for a smartphone right now, or if you’re contract is about to expire, this is your guide to the best ones on the market.

LG G Flex Successor Already In The Pipeline [Rumor]

LG G Flex Successor Already In The Pipeline [Rumor]

It hasn’t been long since LG unveiled its new smartphone with a flexible display, aptly called the LG G Flex. The device is yet to make its way Stateside. In fact, LG is yet to launch it globally. The company has confirmed though it plans to launch it on a large scale, unlike the similar smartphone from Samsung, called Galaxy Round, which is only available in limited quantities in South Korea. As people around the world wait to get their flex on, LG might already be working on the next generation G Flex smartphone.

Rumors coming in from South Korea suggest that LG Electronics and LG Display are currently working on a new generation of flexible displays that can be used in smartphones. The company is said to be in planning stages for mass production of these panels. It is said that these display panels will be flexible enough to flex at 90 degrees and to support that the next generation G Flex will have a body made from a special hard rubber compound. It can be presumed that this smartphone might also have a flexible battery. Industry sources cited in the report claim that LG G Flex successor is going to be released in the second half of 2014, which means that there’s still a lot of time before this device will officially be unveiled, going by this timeframe that is.

LG Will Reportedly Use Its Odin Processors In Devices Next Year

LG Will Reportedly Use Its Odin Processors In Devices Next Year

It has been rumored multiple times that LG might be working on its own processors that it can use in its own products. The processors are apparently codenamed “Odin.” According to the latest reports from local Korean publication DigitalTimes, not to be confused with infamous Taiwanese publication Digitimes, the Odin processors might be used in LG’s flagship devices in 2014. LG is reportedly preparing both quadcore and octacore versions of its Odin processors, using Cortex A15 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and Cortex A7 cores clocked at 1.7GHz.

A source cited in the report claims that Mali-T604/T624 and T720/760 are possible GPU choices that LG might go with for its Odin processors. Additional details about LG’s own processing chips are scarce at this point in time. However, it is believed that LG wants to make its own chipsets so that it can cut costs and match some of its competitors who manufacture their own chips as well. The report claims that LG might use these Odin chips as early as next year, the quadcore chips are expected to be bundled with LG smart TVs. LG is also rumored to use the octacore Odin chips in its flagship smartphones in 2014, as well as in the successor to its G Pad tablet.

LG rumors of smartphone business death greatly exaggerated

For those of you that read the rumor that LG would be dumping their smartphone business in favor of television manufacturing solely – no, that’s not true. Today a real-deal LG representative has made clear that they’re certainly not getting out of the smartphone business at all, and that the rumor was and is, of […]

LG Reassures They Are NOT Shifting Their Priorities Away From Smartphones

LG Reassures They Are NOT Shifting Their Priorities Away From SmartphonesWe had recently heard the rumors that LG might be shifting their focus away from smartphones and moving it towards TVs instead. Given that LG had just announced a rather innovative and unique device in the form of the LG G Flex, this rumor seemed a little odd, but then again it’s pretty much LG’s business to do whatever they want to do, right? Well the good news for LG fans is that no, the South Korean tech company is not shifting its focus away from smartphones. This rumor seemed to have come about when it was suggested that Chinese companies have a better handle on things when it comes to the low-end market, and with companies such as Samsung dominating the high-end market, there would be little space left for LG.

According to a statement released by LG, “Reports of LG shifting its priorities away from smartphones are completely untrue. This is a rumor based on non-credible sources and uninformed speculation. We are more committed than ever that we will be a major player in the mobile space. But don’t just take our word on this, look at the products we’ve introduced this year as evidence of our commitment and capabilities.” So there you have it, it looks like fans of LG can rest assured that their favorite smartphone manufacturer isn’t going anywhere, at least for now.

LG G Flex For Sprint Passes Through The FCC

LG G Flex For Sprint Passes Through The FCCUnlike the Samsung Galaxy Round, the LG G Flex is a tad more interesting due to its self-healing abilities, and last we heard, the handset will actually be making its way onto the major carriers as an official device, rather than a gray import. Well the good news is that if you’re a Sprint subscriber looking for your next phone, you might be interested to learn that the LG G Flex for Sprint has recently made its way through the FCC, corroborating earlier claims that the device would make its way onto their network.

The device model that was filed has the model number LG-LS995, with another model going by the model number LG-D959, although we’re not what the difference in models are. In any case the FCC filing includes three LTE bands for Sprint, but apart from that not much else is known, such as it availability or pricing. Neither of the major carriers have confirmed that they will be offering the handset upon its launch, but according to an earlier rumor by @evleaks, it has been suggested that it will. No word on when it will be released, but presumably we’re looking at the end of the year, or hopefully early 2014 where the device is still somewhat fresh and relevant in everyone’s minds. So, anyone planning on getting the LG G Flex?
