We’ve got our hands on one of LG’s newest in IPS LED display technology here in the LG EA73, one of two such displays with “Ultra Wide” aspect ratio of 21:9 right out of the box. This 29-inch display is made to be of the highest caliber on-desk displays on the market today, offering up […]
LG unveiled the "world’s first flexible OLED panel for smartphones" on Monday morning and bragged about how products with "enhanced performance and differentiated designs" would follow next year. A fully flexible smartphone is probably not going to be among those exciting new things, however.
This weekend a document was spilled in part through the sharing platform Scribd, showing off the LG-made Nexus 5 in part. This document was lost for a day or two, thanking in part a couple of 404-ed webpage sources, but today we’ve been passed a collection of images and snaps from another internal document from […]
LG has announced that it has started mass production of what it claims to be the world’s first flexible OLED panel for smartphones. LG previously grabbed the distinction of being the first to company commercially rollout 55-inch OLED TV display earlier this year. The company is building it’s flexible panels on plastic substrates. Building the […]
LG has steadily been tossing new Android-powered smartphones and tablets on the market. Back in September at IFA 2013, we got to spend a little hands-on time with the LG G Pad 8.3 tablet. That means we knew all the specifications and features of the tablet save a couple very important details. LG didn’t announce […]
LG To Begin Mass Production Of World’s First Flexible OLEDs For Smartphones
Posted in: Today's ChiliWe have heard that LG has plans to launch smartphones with flexible displays. So far we have heard about the LG Z and the LG G Flex, although at this point in time it is unclear as to whether both are the same device, or two separate devices. While it remains to be seen as to whether either device will materialize in the coming days or weeks, LG has announced their plans to enter mass production of flexible OLED displays for smartphones, calling it a world’s first. We have seen companies such as Samsung demonstrate flexible displays, but this move by LG would definitely make it a first as far as mass production and commercialization is concerned. (more…)

LG G Pad 8.3 Sees 14th October Launch In South Korea, Rest Of The World To Follow After
Posted in: Today's ChiliBack in September, LG finally took the wraps off their latest tablet, the LG G Pad 8.3. Unfortunately at that time, LG was a bit vague on the timing of the tablet’s release, only giving us a rough end of the year time frame, along with possible pricing (although it has been speculated that it could cost $299). In any case LG has recently announced that the LG G Pad 8.3 is expected to go on sale in South Korea come 14th of October and that its availability on other markets will follow shortly. Once again no specific dates were mentioned, but we can only imagine it shouldn’t be too long following its South Korean release.
The tablet will see a price tag of 550,000 Won, which roughly converts to about $510, making it a somewhat pricey tablet as opposed to its rumored $299 price tag that would allow it to compete with the likes of the Google Nexus 7. No word on how much it will cost when it arrives stateside, but hopefully its price tag in South Korea will be good enough indication. The LG G Pad 8.3 will sport an 8.3” 1920×1200 display and pack a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset under the hood clocked at 1.7GHz. It will sport several features of the LG G2, such as the Knock-On feature that will lock/unlock the device.

There has been no shortage of leaks that claim to show off Google’s next Nexus smartphone (including this not-so-subtle nod from Google itself) over the past weeks and months, but we may have just hit the mother lode this weekend. The folks at Android Police have gotten their hands on a hefty, near-final draft of a 281-page service manual for the forthcoming device, which still technically bears the LG D821 model number.
Really though, LG isn’t fooling anyone here. The document is chock full of diagrams and images (some of the device in various states of disassembly) that depict a very familiar-looking phone sporting some Nexus 7-like branding on its rear end. An earlier FCC filing already revealed some of the juicy details — the inclusion of a 4.95-inch 1080p IPS screen and a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 with 2GB of RAM — but this newly leaked manual manages to shine a little extra light (not to mention extra credibility) on those earlier reports.
The new Nexus will likely be available in 16 or 32GB variants, and will feature an LTE radio and an 8-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (there’s no mention of that crazy Nikon tech, though). NFC, wireless charging, and that lovely little notification light are back, too, but don’t expect a huge boost in longevity — it’s going to pack a sealed 2,300mAh battery, up slightly from the 2100mAh cell that powered last year’s Nexus 4. That spec sheet should sound familiar to people who took notice of what happened with the Nexus 4. Just as that device was built from the foundation laid by the LG Optimus G, the Nexus 5 (or whatever it’s going to be called) seems like a mildly revamped version of LG’s G2.
At this point I’d usually urge you to approach such leaks with caution, but it hardly seems necessary now. As much as I love my mental image of a lone prankster toiling into the wee hours of the morning on a meticulously crafted forgery, the sheer complexity and granularity of the information contained in this document makes that scenario an unlikely one. And the icing on the cake? LG asked Android Police to pull the offending document and images earlier today — AP complied with the request, but there’s no way to get the cat back into its bag now.
It’s hard to argue with the timing, too. The first anniversary of the Nexus 4’s unveiling is fast approaching, and as solid as the device was, it found itself being outclassed by a more powerful breed of smartphone within a matter of months. The Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 4 made their official debuts in October 2011 and 2012 respectively, and now that we’ve got persistent rumors of a Google event scheduled for October 14 floating around, I’d wager all this cloak-and-dagger business should be dispensed with very shortly. Until then, feel free to dig around in the full document below for more technical tidbits — happy hunting!
It is safe to say that the Nexus 5 is one of the upcoming devices that is anxiously being awaited. There have already been a lot of rumors and leaks about this device, but so far Google hasn’t uttered a word regarding its release or availability. A purported service manual of the Nexus 5, developed by LG, has leaked online. It brings a treasure trove of information, if it is the real deal that is, since it reveals more or less the entire spec list of the upcoming Nexus smartphone.
As per the leaked service manual, the LG Nexus 5 will have a 4.95 inch full 1080p HD display, a 2.3GHz quadcore Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM and a 2,300mAh battery. There’s apparently going to be 32 gigs of onboard storage apart from an 8 megapixel rear and a 1.3 megapixel front shooter. NFC and wireless charging are present, and so are the accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, proximity, ambient light and pressure sensors. Even though all of this seems plausible, a grain of salt is still advised. It is likely that it might be a fake service manual, or a fake that LG deliberately leaked to throw everyone off the scent. There are a number of possibilities here, and these specs can in no way be considered final. As per rumors, the Nexus 5 might be launched towards the end of October.
