LG announces the LG SoundPlate speaker system

lg-soundplateLG Electronics has announced a brand new speaker system which will boast a minimalist design while offering a huge audio boost to your home entertainment center, calling it the LG SoundPlate. Having revealed at CEDIA 2013, the LG SoundPlate, carrying the model number LAP340, is said to help usher in a new generation of home theater audio systems and it has been optimized for today’s flat-panel HDTVs.

Jay Vandenbree, senior vice president, home entertainment, LG Electronics USA, said, “The tradeoff for the ultra thin TV design has been smaller speakers, which has led to a surge in demand for supplementary home audio devices. We’re augmenting our already robust line of soundbars with the LG SoundPlate to give consumers yet another alternative for powerful home entertainment sound in a compact, attractive design.” So that’s how we know where they are coming from.

The LG SoundPlate will work its magic by providing high-quality audio while maintaining an aesthetic that is minimally obtrusive. It has a profile of just 1-3/8 inches (35 millimeters) high, but do not be fooled as the LG SoundPlate will come equipped with a robust 4.1 channel sound system that is complete with dual built-in subwoofers.

Apart from that, there is also a 120W output that has been boosted by a unique internal structure alongside LG’s proprietary acoustic tuning system, making it easier for everyone to hear dialog and other discrete sounds whenever they are watching TV shows or movies. Not just content with that, the LG SoundPlate will also feature LG’s Bass Port system that helps lower harmful vibrations from within the speaker enclosure.

When set to LG’s Cinema Mode, it will optimize the LAP340′s surround sound capabilities, resulting in an immersive field of multidirectional audio. Additional functionality can be found in LG’s Sound Sync, which is driven by Bluetooth capabilities, allowing users to pair the device with other compatible devices – phones included, so that users are able to stream music sans wires when in range. Talk about another cable clutter reducing measure!

There is no word on pricing as at press time, but the LAP340 LG SoundPlate is tipped to arrive via US retailers from October onward.

LG Drops OLED TV Price To $10k, Introduces New TVs StatesideOver at CEDIA 2013, the folks at LG have dropped some announcements concerning their Ultra HD TV range. Firstly, there will be a couple of new edge LED lit LCD TVs that will be part of the LG make up, where the more affordable models which were introduced in South Korea back in August are finally about to arrive Stateside later this month. There is the 65-inch LG LA9650 which will feature a $5,000 price tag, and for those who are feeling the pinch when it comes to their pockets and yet still want something worthy to reside in their respective living rooms, the 55-inch model will retail for a mere $3,500, now how about that?

The new LG TVs will also feature what LG calls the “Sound Plate“, something that they first paraded over at IFA 2013 earlier this year. There is no word on pricing or the exact release date just yet, but we do have expectations for it to arrive sometime in the fourth quarter of the year. Other than the new TVs, LG has also decided to lower the prices of their current TV range, where the higher end LA9700 models that come in similar sizes will see prices plummet to $6,500 and $4,500. Heck, if you have always kept an eye on the 55-inch curved OLED TV, that model too, will be easier on your pockets by about $4,000 with a recommended retail price of $10,000 now.

LG’s cheapest Ultra HDTV starts at $3,500, OLED TV drops to $10,000

LG's Ultra HDTV lineup reaches five models, starting at $3,500 OLED TV drops to $10k

LG had its own Ultra HD news to reveal here at CEDIA 2013, and first up are two new edge LED lit LCD TVs joining the family. The cheaper models the company announced in Korea last month are coming to the US this month, with the 65-inch LA9650 (shown above) rocking a $5,000 price tag, and the 55-inch coming home for just $3,500 — even less than we’d expected. Coming along with the new TVs is an LG “Sound Plate” it first showed off at IFA (pictured after the break). There’s no price or release date yet, but expect it to hit in Q4. Beyond the new TVs, LG is also slashing prices on its existing lineup, with the higher end LA9700 models in the same sizes dropping to $6,500 and $4,500. Concerned about needing HDMI 2.0 in the future? We don’t have firm answers yet, but LG says it’s working on a solution for existing models. Even its 55-inch curved OLED TV is getting a price break, dropping down to $10,000 at retail from its previous launch price of $14,000.

    LG G2 Design Story

They say that a picture speaks a thousand words, but there is basically no better way to convey a story within the shortest period of time possible by showing it off in a video, and the folks over at LG have revealed this particular video that shows you how the LG G2 was designed. It seems as though the engineers over at LG do take everyday situations into consideration, before consolidating their data and experience in order to churn out something new and revolutionary.

Where QSlide was concerned, it happened to be a light mist on the side window of the engineer’s car which actually became the catalyst for him to create such a multitasking application. Pretty neat, no? It reminds me of how Charles Goodyear managed to find the secret to vulcanized rubber, and in a similar way, many other pioneers of yore too, had a slice of luck, chance, and of course, seized it with both hands. The LG G2 is definitely a smartphone which is beautiful in its own right, so it is not surprising to see that LG has already set a sales target of a whopping 10 million units. Will you be one of those who will help LG arrive at such a goal?

Samsung And LG Agree To Settle Display Lawsuits Amicably

Samsung And LG Agree To Settle Display Lawsuits AmicablyBoth Samsung and LG create displays. In fact both companies have provided display technology for Apple’s iOS products in the past, so we guess it’s not a complete surprise that both companies consider themselves rivals. In the past both companies have sued each other over the display technology found in each other’s products, claiming that the other had infringed upon their patent. Well it seems that both companies have decided that enough is enough, and have decided to settle the dispute amicably.

Naturally the details of the settlement between both companies are under wraps, but according to a statement released, both companies will “focus more on cementing our leadership in the global market by cooperation, instead of engaging in all-consuming patent disputes.” In any case we guess it’s good news that both companies have decided to end their dispute, after all long and drawn-out lawsuits aren’t exactly fun for either side and could potentially drag on for years, just like how the Apple and Samsung lawsuits are still ongoing.

Samsung and LG end display tech patent war

Samsung and LG have been bitter rivals in multiple markets within the technology world for a long time. One place where the companies have fought in the business world and in the courtroom is in the display technology market. Samsung Display and LG Display have announced that they are ending their patent war in courts. […]

Samsung and LG settle LCD, OLED patent dispute, choose to focus on cooperation

Samsung Display and LG Display have let the lawsuits fly in a patent battle over LCD- and OLED-related technology, but today that is apparently all over. In separate statements to the press, Samsung said “we two should focus more on cementing our leadership in the global market by cooperation, instead of engaging in all-consuming patent disputes.” For its part, LG claimed that “what’s most important for both of us is upgrading our competitiveness globally.” All’s well that ends well we guess, and a faster rollout of new display technology is nothing we’ll argue against. The only possible issue? If they work together too well to achieve global market domination.
