Lg Vu 3 offers 5.2-inch 4:3 aspect ratio display

LG has unveiled one of its latest big-screen smart devices called the Vu 3. This Vu series is a rather odd line of 4:3 aspect ratio smartphones featuring big screens. The Vu 3 offers much of the same hardware and many of the same features of the LG G2. The biggest difference is the 5.2-inch […]

LG Vu 3 Announced

LG Vu 3 AnnouncedWe have been hearing rumors that LG is looking to launch a new phablet device called the Vu 3. It is expected to be the successor to the LG Vu 2, and sure enough the Korean company has announced the handset, corroborating the rumors that the device could be announced this month. Interestingly enough LG has decided to stick to the 4:3 aspect ratio which gives the handset a boxy kind of look, versus a more rectangular feel compared to devices like the LG G2 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but we guess there must be a reason behind it.

As far as specs are concerned, the LG Vu 3 is no slouch and will sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, a 13MP rear-facing camera, and Carrier Aggregation technology which can apparently double the speeds of LTE-Advanced. However in terms of display, the Vu 3 is a bit of a disappointment compared to the competition and only sports a 5.2” 1280×960 display, versus the Full HD ones found on newer Android models. The handset will also come bundled with a stylus and other features that are found on the G2, such as Knock On or Knock Knock for unlocking the device, a Guest Mode, and Plug & Pop just to name a few. No word on how much it is expected to cost, but the LG Vu 3 will launch on the 27th of September.

    LG Vu 3 official: 5.2-inch 4:3 display, Snapdragon 800, 13MP camera, LTE-A

    LG Vu 3 official 52inch 43 display, Snapdragon 800, 13MP camera, LTEA

Considering LG’s G2 was leaked many times before it became official, we’re a little surprised that the company managed to keep the Vu 3 under wraps before today (more or less, anyway). The Korean firm’s latest Android smartphone drops the Optimus tag of its predecessor, but keeps the Vu series’ signature 4:3 aspect ratio for its 5.2-inch IPS display (1,280 x 960 resolution). Specs include a Snapdragon 800 processor, 13-megapixel camera and LTE-A radio. Aside from the stylus, translucent QuickView cases and a couple of LG software titles we recognize (like guest mode and KnockON), there’s not much else to glean from the Korean press release. If your linguistic skills (or Google Translate translation skills) are better than ours, however, the source awaits you.

A Love Letter to My First Four Phones

A Love Letter to My First Four Phones

Last month was spent in a state of upheaval. After seven years in New York I was heading back to the opposite coast, which had led me to go though of the hundreds of pounds of accumulated junk one accidentally collects in boxes over the years.

LG G2 Review: A Braindead Hercules

LG G2 Review: A Braindead Hercules

You could put a helicopter engine on a motorcycle and fill it with rocket fuel, but if you put a toddler behind the wheel, it’s not going anywhere. The same is true with phones; you can turbo-charge the processors and hardware, but if the software is stupid and terrible, you’ve got a stupid and terrible phone on your hands. This is that phone.

LG Nexus 5 rumor points to October launch

Only a few days ago some images of the LG Nexus 5 smartphone leaked. The pictures were apparently taken in a random bar somewhere. LG Vu 3 Spotted Wearing QuickView Case

LG Vu 3 Spotted Wearing QuickView CaseBetter late than never, this bit of news, but we have brought you word a couple of days ago that the LG Vu 3 is widely tipped to launch later this month, but then again, things are never really set in concrete until an official announcement is made. When it comes to the LG Vu 3, I guess you can say that the actual release date still remains unknown as at press time, but we have heard whispers on the grapevine that this unique phablet is tipped to launch later next month instead of in September. We gleaned such information from Korean site ETNews, where this 4:3 large-format device has also made an appearance over on an LG microsite, which is one way of confirming the existence of the LG Vu 3, while teasing it in a couple of semi-transparent QuickView cases. The phone covers look set to arrive in black as well as gray shades to add to its quirkiness.

Other rumored hardware specifications of the LG Vu 3 include a Snapdragon 800 chipset, a 13-megapixel camera that is located at the back and LTE-Advanced support. If you happen to live in South Korea, do expect it to arrive on KT Telecom, SK Telecom and LG U+ carriers in the months ahead.

LG Vu 3 teased with semi-transparent QuickView case, expected to launch in October

LG Vu 3 teased with semitransparent QuickView case, expected to launch in October

LG’s oddly shaped Optimus Vu II is slated for an update next month, according to Korean site ETNews. The 4:3 large-format device, dubbed simply Vu 3 (LG has dropped the Optimus branding from flagship devices), has also appeared on an LG microsite, which serves to both confirm the handset’s existence and tease a pair of semi-transparent QuickView cases. The phone covers, available in black or gray, appear to feature a see-through design, enabling some pretty spiffy animated notifications. As for the phone itself, you can expect a Snapdragon 800 chipset, a 13-megapixel rear camera and LTE-Advanced support. It’s slated to hit KT Telecom, SK Telecom and LG U+ in Korea in the coming months.
