In today’s obligatory unveiling video of the new Android statue for Google’s lawn full of statues of desserts, a new Google smartphone has appeared. This may very well be the next-generation Nexus device as it does indeed have the word Nexus written on it – though in a bit of a cut with what may […]
Google’s KitKat statue unveiling may have leaked a new Nexus phone (update: video removed)
Posted in: Today's ChiliWe always enjoy Google’s new statues for each version of Android, however the one posted just now for KitKat / 4.4 may have a bonus treat. The Googler in the green shirt is holding a device that reads Nexus on the back, however compared to the woman conveniently holding a Nexus 4 just inches away, it’s clearly not the same. The word Nexus is spelled out in a different direction, the camera seems different, and it looks bigger than the Nexus 4, but it appears to have an LG logo on the bottom. The video is embedded after the break, you can catch a glimpse of the mystery unit about 38 seconds in. It’s certainly curious timing for a new device to pop up, right after the old one dropped in price and is out of stock for at least one version.
Update: Well, you could have seen it in the video but Google has suddenly yanked it from YouTube, adding even more intrigue to the situation. We’ve contacted the company for a statement and will let you know if we hear anything.
Update 2: One of our commenters linked another video of the unveiling that also shows the device. It’s taken from behind the people shown above, and while we can’t get a clear look at the screen you can get a better idea of the phone’s dimensions. Whoops! It looks like that one’s gone now too.

If you think back to when flatscreen TVs first hit the market one of the things that a lot of people wanted to do was mount them on the wall. The problem with mounting most LCD and plasma TVs on walls is that they’re often too thick and heavy, and most of them just ended up sitting on entertainment centers. Now there are incredibly thin-profile OLED screens coming to market that will definitely be skinny and lightweight enough to hang on the wall like a work of art.
LG has unveiled their new Gallery TV (model 55EA8800) that uses an incredibly thin OLED panel inside of a bezel that looks like a picture frame. The overall effect is of a piece of artwork hanging on the wall inside of a custom frame. That frame does more than just look good, it also hides the television’s speaker system called Canvas Speaker 2.2.
Taking the picture frame effect even further, the TV ships with a gallery mode and preloaded digital images of artworks from famous artists. Buyers can also put their own images and artwork on the TV and have them display in gallery mode as well. Pricing for the TV is unknown at this time, but knowing how much other OLED sets are going for, I’d expect it to be somewhere around $10,000(USD).

We have seen how the vacuum cleaner industry has certainly changed a whole lot – from the usual R2-D2 type design to a lighter, handheld version with a built-in rechargeable battery so that you can reach those hard-to-reach places without being limited by the length of the power cord. Of course, there is also the robotic vacuum cleaner that claims to be able to clean up the floor of your home without requiring your presence, returning to its base for a recharge as it starts to run low on battery power. LG intends to make new headway in the robotic vacuum cleaner industry with the introduction of the LG Smart Hom-Bot Square vacuum cleaner which will be unveiled at IFA 2013 later this week.
This square robotic vacuum cleaner is said to deliver a significant boost in cleaning performance, courtesy of LG’s impressive Corner Master. Apart from that, this puppy will also come with LG’s innovative smart technologies that include Smart Control, Cleaning History, Smart Diagnosis and Software Update, which would then enable the user to remotely control the Smart Hom-Bot Square using a smartphone alone.
As mentioned, the Corner Master found in this particular vacuum cleaner comes with a couple of long brushes, which boasts of corner detecting sensors that will work in tandem with the cleaner’s unique shape. It has an angular form factor and will be accompanied by redesigned brushes which measure 1.5cm longer compared to its predecessor, allowing the Smart Hom-Bot Square to remove dust and dirt even from the tightest of corners.
Most robotic cleaners will make use of a solitary camera, but the advanced Hom-Bot Square doubles that figure with a pair of improved Dual Eye 2.0 cameras so that you and your household get to enjoy smarter, faster and a more efficient cleaning performance. It is capable of snapping several images per second, with the upper and lower cameras scanning ceilings, walls and floors, even under low light or dark conditions. All of that information will be compiled and generated into a smart map. Apart from that, multiple sensors are capable of detecting obstacles within a 180 degree field, remembering their locations for collision-free operation. This sure as heck sounds like something every home should own, don’t you think so?

On August 28, LG Electronics sent the LG G2 into the stratosphere by strapping it to a balloon (as have others before it), then posting the video for all to marvel at. Now the company has announced that its flagship handset is prepped to roll out globally, and will start doing so this month by […]
LG G2 Review
Posted in: Today's ChiliEver since LG introduced the Optimus G, the company has aggressively pushed the boundaries of Android handset hardware and software. The G2 can be seen as the successor of the original G, and it comes only six month after the LG Optimus G Pro, which is a large-display (5.5”) handset. With a display size of 5.2”, the LG G2 places itself somewhere between the Optimus G and the G Pro, and comes with a powerful Snapdragon 800 processor which is anywhere between 25% to 50% faster than the previous Snapdragon 600, depending on which benchmark you look at. More importantly, LG has made some important changes in the phone ergonomics with controls placed in the back, along with many user interface shortcuts and optimizations. In this review, I will tell you how it feels to use the G2 in the real world. Ready? (more…)

The world of Android powered tablets is certainly one that has many choices to pick from, with the gamut of manufacturers out there who are all set to fight for their slice of the pie. If you are an ardent fan of South Korean consumer electronics giant LG, then you would definitely be more than pleased to hear that they are all set to debut the LG G Pad 8.3 at IFA 2013 that is happening in Berlin, Germany, later this week. This is the latest addition to the G Series range of premium mobile devices, where the all-new LG G Pad 8.3 will boast of the distinction of being the first Full HD display that arrives on an 8-inch class tablet, offering a special user-experience and a wide range of connectivity features.
You might think that something with such a large display would offer a poor performance in terms of battery life, right? Wrong! Despite its relatively generous display size, the LG G Pad 8.3 will still manage to come in a slim and sleek profile which will not be awkward when you hold it in your hands, and this compact portability hails from LG’s ability to pick up their consumers’ wants and needs concerning a tablet’s size. Without sacrificing on its portability, the LG G Pad 8.3 will still manage to pack in a powerful 4,600mAh battery so that users get to enjoy long-lasting usage time without building up their biceps at a feather light 338 grams.
As for the rest of the hardware specifications of the LG G Pad 8.3, it will come equipped with a 1920 x 1200 WUXGA (Widescreen Ultra Extended Graphics Array) display which offers a picture quality that is even higher in resolution compared to a standard Full HD display. Not only that, it will be powered by a quad-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, boasting the unique QPair app that will allow every call and message received on a smartphone to appear on the G Pad as well, delivering a true convergence experience. You can then send simple replies via the LG G Pad 8.3 over QPair, making it a snap for the G Pad to hook up easily to other manufacturers’ smartphone and tablets (although Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or higher is recommended). Pricing details remain to be announced, but all should be revealed at IFA 2013 later this week.

IFA 2013 preview: what to expect
Posted in: Today's ChiliCES 2013 was a decidedly sleepy show by most accounts, but this year’s IFA is shaping up to be anything but. Join us past the break to get up to speed on what Berlin might dish out this week.

LG has unveiled one of the most interesting looking TVs I’ve seen a long time at IFA 2013. The TV is a 55-inch OLED set called the Gallery OLED TV 55EA8800. This TV certainly isn’t the first OLED set we’ve seen from LG, but it is the first to have the cool picture frame design. […]
