The Engadget Interview: LG Mobile’s Dr. Ram-chan Woo on the G2 design and features
Posted in: Today's ChiliToday at LG’s G2 launch event in New York City, we had the chance to speak with Dr. Ram-chan Woo — LG Mobile’s head of LTE product planning — about the company’s new flagship. He walked us through the handset’s design with its signature back-mounted volume rocker and power button. We discussed the ultra-thin bezel surrounding the 5.2-inch 1080p GRAM-equipped IPS panel and how the combination of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 SoC and a pyramid-shaped 3,000mAh Li-poly cell helps balance performance and battery life. Next we talked about the 13MP camera which packs OIS, 9-point AF and software-enhanced digital zoom. Finally, Dr. Woo shared his excitement about Hi-fi audio and the phone’s ability to playback 24bit / 192KHz FLAC and WAV files right out of the box — a feature we’re rather fond of ourselves. Hit the break for our video interview and be sure to read our hands-on.

We just got some hands-on with the LG’s new flagship, the G2
Under the hood of LG’s new LG G2 smartphone, announced just today, comes no less than a 3,000mAh “Stepped Battery.” When LG decided to create a hero phone in the LG G2, they didn’t take Motorola’s approach with the Moto X, they went straight for the gullet with a specifications war. One of the places […]
LG piles on the software features for latest flagship, including ‘Answer Me’ and Guest Mode
Posted in: Today's ChiliNo non-Nexus Android phone is complete without a pile of obnoxious helpful unique software features. LG’s G2 is no different; it adds a bunch more customizations and apps to the company’s existing suite. Plug & Pop automatically suggests apps and tasks when you plug in headphones or a USB cable, while Slide Aside lets you quickly dismiss running apps with a simple three-finger swipe. KnockON isn’t exactly new, but it’s definitely one of the more intriguing and simple twists on the standard Android UI: instead of hitting a power button you simply tap twice on the display to wake the G2 from its sleep. It’s a nice convenience that goes hand-in-hand with Answer Me, which automatically answers calls when you put the phone to your ear, just like an old-school wired telephone. There’s even QuickRemote, which can not only control home entertainment systems, but a whole range of devices, thanks to its ability to “learn” from standard IR remotes. There’s also a guest mode, for when you want to hand the phone over to a friend or your child, though, Guest Mode does nothing to stop their sticky little fingers from leaving goo on your screen.

LG G2 hands-on
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe LG G2, the company’s latest Android smartphone, is here, and we’ve been spending some hands-on time with the 5.2-inch flagship to see how it shapes up in a crowded market. LG has dipped into all of its different divisions – displays, batteries, and more – to cherry-pick their best technologies, pairing them with Qualcomm’s […]
It seems that LG has a trio of devices that will be making its way towards T-Mobile, and they are the recently announced flagship, the LG G2 (as seen above), the LG Optimus F6 and the LG Optimus F3. This would mean the LTE device lineup has just been bumped up, and according to a certain Jason Young, vice president of product marketing, T-Mobile, “Customers are going to love the uniqueness that each LG LTE device offers – the G2 is innovative with its ergonomic and intuitive rear key design; the Optimus F6 is stylish, fast and full-featured; and the Optimus F3 is our most affordable LTE Android-powered smartphone. Coupled with T-Mobile’s unlimited data, low-up-front costs and speedy nationwide network, any one of these smartphones is going to be a great option for our customers.”
It was announced at the end of last month that the Optimus F3 would arrive on T-Mobile, and today’s announcement is a reiteration of what was mentioned then, and I guess the main “star” of the attraction would be the spanking new LG G2, which has seen the Optimus moniker dropped and yet maintaining its position as the flagship device from South Korean consumer electronics giant LG.
