Verizon roadmap leaks Moto X and HTC One release dates

Those looking to get a better handle on how long they’ll have to wait before their beloved Motorola Moto X and/or HTC One will be waiting to hit Verizon will be able to rejoice today. A roadmap tipping the release dates of devices through the end of August has been leaked, here showing not just the Verizon HTC One, not just the Motorola Moto X, but machines from Samsung and LG as well.

The roadmap sets the stage for the HTC One to hit on the first of August, putting it at three weeks away – to the day – from today. That’s also well within the bounds of several other key releases from other companies aiming to eat the HTC One’s camera domination lunch, namely the Nokia Lumia 1020 with its 41-megapixel sensor. Will 10x the megapixels make up the difference?

Verizon also has the “Motorola X”, aka Moto X set for the 23rd of August. At that point we’re still calling it a far-off sort of drop, but with the machine having leaked essentially in full several times over already, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Motorola reveal the device well before then, with pre-orders starting closer to the beginning of the month. For more information on the Moto X, head down the rabbit hole with SlashGear’s Moto X tag portal.

This leaked roadmap comes from PhoneArena, mind you, and it points to several other odd devices as well. There’s an LG Exalt, a basic flip phone with “largest display available” on said sort of device with “crystal-clear sound quality” to boot. You’ve got NFL Mobile 2013 launching the same day as the HTC One, this version likely to have additional abilities and streaming boosts.

There’s a Samsung Convoy 3 set to replace the Convoy 2 on the 15th of August, a prepaid phone addition in the Samsung Stellar, and boosts to “Verizon FamilyBase”. This is an update to the current Verizon Usage Controls with added functionality and bits and pieces like family based pricing. Exciting stuff!

LG Display reveals slimmest ever full HD smartphone LCD panel

LG Display has unveiled what it says is the “world’s slimmest” full HD LCD panel for smartphones, which measures in at 5.2-inches and is aimed at reducing the overall thickness of handsets, as well as their weight. The company didn’t state when the panel will be made available to handset makers, but we do have a gallery of it for you after the jump.

In addition to the thinner profile and lighter weight, LG Display also says their new LCD panel will result in a phone with “better grip-ability,” as well as a better viewing experience than previous offerings. The panel has a 2.3mm bezel, while its actual thickness is less than that at 2.2mm, also earning it the title of narrowest full HD smartphone display available.

As a result of the narrow bezel, the overall viewing area of the display is larger than what other panels offer, something LG Display says is “critical”. The new device was developed using the company’s Advanced One-Glass-Solution technology, also known as OGS, marking the first time it has been used with the panel. Likewise, rather than using a single circuit, LG used Dual Flexible Printed Circuits.

Finally, there’s been the utilization of a direct bonding system, which LG Display says has allowed it to use less Optical Clear Resin, something that also results in a brightness higher than other offerings. The panel itself is RGB with 535 nits of brightness at its highest setting, with the contrast coming in at 3.74:1 based on 10,000 lux.

Said LG Display’s IT and Mobile Development Group’s VP Dr. Byeong-Koo Kim: “Today’s introduction of the world’s slimmest Full HD LCD panel represents an exciting advancement for the high-end smartphone segment, and is possible due to our world-class expertise in IPS and touch technologies. “LG Display will continue its commitment to developing products that maximize consumer value as well as opening new doors for the mobile and tablet PC industry.”

LG Display – Introduced world’s slimmest full HD LCD panel for smartphones

LG Display - Introduced world’s slimmest full HD LCD panel for smartphones

LG Display Press Release:

Seoul, Korea (July 11, 2013) – LG Display [NYSE: LPL, KRX: 034220], a leading innovator of display technology, today announced that it will unveil the world’s slimmest Full HD LCD panel for smartphones. The state-of-the-art 5.2-inch panel is an exciting advancement for the premium mobile device market enabling sleeker Full HD smartphones featuring better “grip-ability” and a superior viewing experience.

Only 2.2mm thin with a 2.3mm bezel, LG Display’s new panel is both slimmest and narrowest among existing Full HD LCD panels designed for mobile devices. This world’s slimmest Full HD LCD panel will provide larger visible display space on smartphones, critical as mobile devices are used for multimedia viewing more than ever before. Additionally, the panel will make devices easier to grip as well as lighter in weight.

Key to realizing the world’s slimmest panel is LG Display’s Advanced One-Glass-Solution (OGS), the latest touch technology enabling an enhanced touch screen experience, developed and applied to the new panel for the first time ever. Dual Flexible Printed Circuits, superior to a single circuit, have been inserted between the panel and touch film, reducing the number of lines on the panel by more than 30 percent. Utilization of a direct bonding system has also resulted in Optical Clear Resin between the panel and touch film for greater brightness.

The new panel’s superiority in displaying resolution, brightness, and contrast ratio results in enhanced outdoor readability. By utilizing 1,080X1,920 pixels consisting of Red, Green, Blue (RGB) sub-pixels, the panel is a true Full HD display. And with a brightness of 535 nits at maximum, LG Display’s panel outperforms all current mobile Full HD LCD panels. Finally, measuring contrast in real-life surroundings with Ambient Contrast Ratio results in a reading of 3.74:1 based on 10,000 lux, confirming the perfect performance of the panel even in strong outdoor sunlight conditions. Renowned testing firm Intertek has officially certified these results.

“Today’s introduction of the world’s slimmest Full HD LCD panel represents an exciting advancement for the high-end smartphone segment, and is possible due to our world-class expertise in IPS and touch technologies,” said Dr. Byeong-Koo Kim, Vice President and Head of LG Display’s IT and Mobile Development Group. “LG Display will continue its commitment to developing products that maximize consumer value as well as opening new doors for the mobile and tablet PC industry.”

LG Display shows off 22mm thick 'world's slimmest' 1080p LCD screen for smartphones

As smartphones continue to get thinner and thinner, LG Display is continually doing its part to shave off a few millimeters. Its latest introduction is this “world’s slimmest full HD panel for smartphones”, measuring at 5.2-inches diagonally, it’s just 2.2mm thick and has a 2.3mm bezel. To get there, LG’s display arm has pioneered new technology including “Advanced One-Glass-Solution” that puts dual flexible circuits between the panel and touch film, with 30 percent fewer lines on the panel. It also points out that every one of its pixels consists of RGB subpixels — more shots fired at pentile screens — and that it’s capable of 535 nits of brightness, more than all current 1080p mobile LCDs. That should be an improvement over the Zerogap Touch technology it was so proud of in the original Optimus G and hey, look at that — it’s arriving just in time for the Optimus G2.

LG Optimus G Pro Value Pack now rolling out to AT&T subscribers (video)

LG Optimus G Pro Value Pack

American LG Optimus G Pro owners no longer have to look on with envy as their Korean friends take advantage of the Value Pack: the update is now available to AT&T subscribers over the air. As in other countries, the upgrade brings Smart Video to pause playback when looking away, a Dual Camera mode for photo shoots and Pause & Resume Recording for Vine-like video cuts. LG has also upgraded the Quick Remote for better Smart TV control, added emoticons to its messaging apps and opened up customization of the home button’s LED alerts. The Value Pack isn’t the same as getting a G2, but it will help the G Pro keep up with the Joneses.

LG G2 photos and video leak ahead of August 7 event

It is anticipated LG will be unveiling its Optimus G followup handset, called the G2, at an event on August 7. While there have been fairly ample leaks regarding the handset, there haven’t been any decent shots of the device. That changed today, with the folks over at Engadget getting a mini gallery of image said to be the LG G2.

1

Most notably, this leak includes images of the back of the handset, confirming rumors that the smartphone would feature touch controls on the back rather than the typical volume rocker on the edge of the device. As far as design goes, it has a bit of flavors from the Nexus 4, Optimus G, and even the iPhone. This is most apparent in the video below, which shows the G2 in action.

The camera you see on the back, under which is the power and volume controls, is a 13-megapixel offering, while the display is said to be a 5.2-inch full HD panel at 1080p. This is smaller than the 5.5-inches of its predecessor, and is in line with other leaks we’ve heard regarding the handset. The speakers are located in a grille at the bottom of the device.

Inside, it is said users will find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.3GHz processor, as well as 2GB of RAM while running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. That is the extent of what we know for now, except that the unit featured is a Sprint variant, according to a screenshot that was sent to Engadget. The video purports slightly different specs, however.

According to 4Leakz, who uploaded the video to YouTube, the device measures in with a length of 5.46-inches and a width of 2.80-inches. Likewise, the device in the video shows it as featuring NFC connectivity, visible via the NFC icon located at the top. The model number for this handset is LG-D803.
