T-Mobile LG Optimus L9 Jelly Bean Update Paused

T Mobile LG Optimus L9 Jelly Bean Update Paused

It was back in August 2012 when LG announced Optimus L9. Only 9.1mm think, it touts a 4.7 inch IPS display with a 1GHz dualcore processor and 1GB of RAM. A couple of months later T-Mobile announced that it would be carrying this smartphone, which could be purchased for $49.99 along with a two year contract. In February, earlier this year, it was rumored that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Optimus L9 will be rolling out in the first half of 2013. Sure enough T-Mobile started rolling out Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for LG Optimus L9 on the 22nd of April, but today the carrier has announced that it is pausing the roll out so that they can “improve performance” on the new software version.

T-Mobile revealed that it was pausing Optimus L9 Jelly Bean update in a support document which was released yesterday. Some users who had installed this update complained about apps frequently crashing, battery draining and having difficulties in receiving calls. So for now T-Mobile has paused the update, but has not said when it will resume rolling it out after LG has made improvements to the performance.

LG Optimus G Pro for AT&T: what’s different?

LG Optimus G Pro for AT&T what's different

Two Galaxy Notes and two Optimus Vus later, LG’s ready to tackle the giant-sized smartphone niche, this time without the category’s defining accessory: a stylus. The Optimus G Pro, part of the company’s performance line, was a surprise when we first laid eyes and hands on it: it’s a 5.5-inch embodiment of lessons learned, not just from LG’s past endeavors, but also from Samsung’s. That the device would ever make it out of South Korea and into the US was an uncertainty. And by entering the market now, the G Pro risks coming off as a stopgap between the Note II and III, as well as LG’s own flagship G line.

Yet, LG found a way. It paired with AT&T to bring the G Pro, with its Snapdragon 600 processor and 1080p display, to the States as an exclusive. For $199 on a two-year plan, subscribers get an attractive package: LTE, NFC, 32GB of storage (expandable by up to 64GB via microSDXC), a gargantuan 3,140mAh battery and dual 2.1MP / 13MP cameras with the option for dual-recording. So, aided by some competitive pricing and top-shelf specifications, the G Pro reads on paper like a boss. But the window for that dominance is short. So while we wait for Samsung to attempt a three-peat in the category it created (a Note III could debut by summer’s end), let’s examine the G Pro and its 15 minutes of fame.

LG tablet redux in 2013 tip sources

LG is mulling a return to the tablet market, Korean sources claim, with a new model tipped for release sometime in the second half of 2013, and potentially as early as Q3. Details of the speculated slate are in short supply, and according to Munhwa it’s uncertain whether LG will opt for Windows or Android to power its renewed attempt on the big-screen mobility ecosystem.

lg_optimus_tab_sg_17-580x435

LG’s tablet ambitions were scuppered in 2012, when the company confirmed it would sideline its slate plans so as to focus instead on smartphones. Its Optimus Pad failed to gain traction, and fellow Android device OEMs pushed prices low to undercut Apple’s iPad.

Since then, however, we’ve seen Windows 8/RT arrive, as well as some success among Android devices, fueled in no small part by the low-cost Nexus 7 ASUS manufactures for Google. Meanwhile, we’ve also seen some movement in the high-end Android tablet world, with high-res options like Samsung’s Nexus 10 out-performing the iPad’s Retina Display in terms of pixel density.

That might pave the way for LG to use some of its display arm’s homegrown screen talents. Back at CES, LG Display showed off a 7-inch, 324ppi 1920 x 1200 tablet panel, among others, which seems ideally suited for a small tablet rival to the much-speculated iPad mini with Retina Display.

Of course, there’s not only Android to consider. LG could also opt for Windows 8 or Windows RT, joining a relatively limited market of tablets running Microsoft’s platform. Whether the potential rewards for taking on Microsoft’s own Surface are considered rich enough for LG remains to be seen, however.

LG Announces Event For 30th Of May

LG Announces Event For 30th Of MayGood news folks! It seems that LG has been sending out several invites to a media event which will be taking place on the 30th of May in Macau and we have been invited, but unfortunately the invite seems to lack some details, such as what the company could be announcing, but based on the invite’s image and the “G” in the “Imagination”, it seems that it is likely that this will be a smartphone announcement of some sort that is part of LG’s Optimus G lineup. According to a previous report, we believe that this event could be basically the announcement of LG’s Optimus GK which is basically the 5” Full HD version of the Optimus G with a 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 chipset, a 3,100mAh battery, a 13MP camera and 16GB of storage with Android Jelly Bean running the show. In any case if you want to find out what LG has planned, check back with us on the 30th of May for the details.

New LG Tablet Reportedly Launching In Q3 2013

New LG Tablet Reportedly Launching In Q3 2013

LG made its debut in the tablet market with Optimus Pad which was announced back in 2011. This 8.9 inch tablet was powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 processor and Android 3.0, it also had a 3D camera on the back which hoped to differentiate it from the plethora of tablets that had been released. However the company hasn’t seen much success in the tablet market up till now, but it is reportedly willing to throw its hat back in the ring again. LG is said to developing a new tablet that might possibly be released in the third quarter of this year, that’s between July and September 2013.

Unfortunately the report doesn’t contain crucial information such as technical specifications  hints about design and dimensions or even the name of what platform the tablet will be based on. Right now it is merely being claimed that LG is working on a new tablet. For all we know it could be powered by Android, which now powers a greater number of tablets than it did back in 2011 when Optimus Pad came out. Who’s to say the tablet won’t be powered by Windows RT, perhaps LG will be inclined towards Microsoft’s platform. We’re merely speculating here, but we’ll surely let you know once more information regarding this alleged upcoming LG tablet comes in.

LG LS980 Could Be Sprint’s Version Of The Optimus G Pro With An Upgrade Processor

LG LS980 Could Be Sprints Version Of The Optimus G Pro With An Upgrade ProcessorAs it stands, the LG Optimus G Pro is an AT&T exclusive, although it seems that a variant of the phone could be making its way onto Sprint’s network down the line, thanks to a mysterious LG device making an appearance on Sprint’s User Agent Profile. The UAP reveals a certain LG device with a 1080p Full HD display and with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on board. The device has been given the model number LS980 which seems to be somewhat similar to the LG Optimus G Pro on AT&T whose model is the E980.

However what is interesting is how the UAP has listed the L980 to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 M8974 processor on board, which seems to be an upgrade over the LG Optimus G Pro which is using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset. There is a chance that Sprint’s version of the Optimus G Pro could sport an upgraded processor, but then again it seems that it is more likely that Sprint could instead be getting their hands on the Optimus G Pro’s sequel.

Unknown LG Optimus with 1080p display and Snapdragon 800 spotted on Sprint’s website

Is Sprint going to carry a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 equipped Optimus G Pro

LG’s flagship Optimus G Pro, due to launch on AT&T on May 10th, might just make its way to Sprint later this year — and possibly with an upgraded processor. A User Agent Profile on Sprint’s website reveals a 1080p, Android 4.2.2 handset called the LS980, which lines up with AT&T’s model number (E980) and also corroborates an earlier listing at the Bluetooth SIG. Curiously, the UAP mentions Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 800 (“M8974”), in contrast to the existing G Pro’s Snapdragon 600 processor. Then again, there’s only so much you can tell about future products from XML files like these. It could be an upgraded Sprint G Pro variant, but the reference to a totally new chip has us (and Android Police) thinking it could also be a full-fledged Optimus G sequel, which has already been rumored and possibly leaked. Either way, it’s nice to see evidence of a top-tier phone maker using this cutting edge Snapdragon, especially after the comedy of ZTE’s Grand Memo.

LG Could Begin Retina iPad Mini 2 Display Production Next Month [Rumor]

LG Could Begin Retina iPad Mini 2 Display Production Next Month [Rumor]Yesterday we reported on an analyst’s prediction that the iPad mini 2 with Retina display could be coming in Q3 2013 and now the same analyst, Richard Shim of NPD DisplaySearch, is claiming that suppliers of the displays Apple typically uses for their products, such as LG, could begin production of the alleged Retina displays as early as next month, and if this is true, this certainly backs up the previous report which pointed at a Q3 release.

Shim also goes on to state that LG will be responsible for a large portion of the display production as this is part of Apple’s plan to move away from their reliance on Samsung, the South Korean company in which they are currently embroiled with in a legal battle over patent infringements. Shim notes that the Retina display for the iPad mini 2 could feature a resolution of 2048×1536, effectively doubling the current resolution and bring it close to the 326PPI density found on the iPhone 5.

Mystery LG phone leaks: Nexus 5, Optimus G2, or something else?

An LG prototype smartphone that could be the new Optimus G2 or even the Google “Nexus 5″ has been spotted in the wild, though exactly what the sizable handset is still remains a mystery. The image – as well as a close-up of the front camera assembly, shown after the cut – shared by evleaks comes with no hardware specifications nor branding beyond the LG logo in the lower bezel, and there’s no telling whether Google’s Nexus logo gets a mention on the back.

lg_prototype_optimus_g2_nexus_5_rumor

If, though, this was the next-gen Nexus, or “Nexus 5″, the positioning of the LG logo would be a minor coup for the manufacturer. On the current Nexus 4, the fascia of the phone is completely logo-free, with the only mention of LG and Google on the back panel.

Of course, that could also mean that this is the LG Optimus G2, the oft-rumored successor to the Optimus G. That phone was functionally all but identical to the Nexus 4 inside, differing only really with branding (and pricing); since Google and LG are said to have renewed their Nexus collaboration and already be working on the fifth phone of the series, the same internal components in this prototype might – if authentic – end up in both handsets.

lg_prototype_optimus_g2_nexus_5_rumor_2

Estimates of scale suggest the mysterious phone is around 5.5-inches, which would be a considerable step up from the 4.7-inches of the current Nexus 4 and Optimus G. It would also put it on a par with the display size of the newer Optimus G Pro; indeed, one possibility is that this device is a variant of the G Pro, complete with the slightly curved glass that we know from the Nexus 4.

Should Google opt to refresh the Nexus line more imminently, that would break the roughly year-long lifecycle of the previous phones. However, it would also give the company a high-profile handset to reveal at Google I/O, as well as a time advantage over the next-gen iPhone which isn’t expected until later in 2013.
