LG Optimus F5 launched in Europe

Sometimes, I do wonder how come it does take some time between a particular smartphone’s announcement and its release date, perhaps there needs to be plenty of marketing material and co-ordination made between the mobile carriers and the smartphone manufacturer itself during the time in between. Well, the LG Optimus F5 was launched successfully by all means at Mobile World Congress earlier this February in Berlin, Germany, where it was positioned to be in a rather unique market – that is, to deliver 4G LTE connectivity to the masses in a mid-range Android-powered smartphone that should not break the bank for those on a tight budget.

LG pips Samsung to market with 55-inch curved OLED TV

LG has revealed launch plans for its 55-inch curved OLED TV, the gently-flexed überset the company showed off back at CES in January. The LG 55EA9800 will go on sale in South Korea in the next month, though at a healthy premium over the standard, non-curved 55-inch OLED set the company has offered for a few months now.

The flat OLED TV is priced at 11 million Korean won, and went up for preorder in January 2013 with shipments beginning the following month. As for this flexed variant, it will command a 50-percent premium, with LG pricing it at 15m won, or around $13,500.

Beyond the privilege of being at the cutting-edge of hardware, LG says early-adopters of the new TV will benefit from some technical advantages too. Because of the curved screen, the company claims, the distance from all points of the TV to the viewer’s eyes are the same, reducing distortion and blur. That also has an effect on 3D, LG says, with a better quality image than a flat screen can manage.

As for the design, the 55EA9800 is embedded in a carbon fiber reinforced clear plastic stand which weighs in at 17kg, with a minimum thickness of 4.3mm. LG has used transparent thin-film speakers, too, spreading the TV’s audio abilities across the front of the stand but without spoiling the looks.

Samsung, meanwhile, is yet to announce availability of its own curved OLED set, which it also demonstrated back at CES in January. Each of the TVs runs at 1080p Full HD resolution, which means that if home entertainment fans want Ultra HD resolution, they’ll currently need to stick with LCD technology. However, that’s likely to be a gap LG is looking to fill; the company announced it would invest more than $650m into OLED production this year.

LG Optimus GK Comes With 5-Inch Display

LG Optimus GK Comes With 5 Inch DisplayIs it just me, or do South Korean smartphone manufacturers just love the option of having plenty of choice when it comes to the kind of mobile communications device that you use? Take the Samsung Galaxy S series for instance, we have seen more than our fair share of different variants of a particular model, and LG is not absolved from this particular phenomenon, too, if you would allow me to call it just that. The LG Optimus G, for instance, has just received a new variant which specifically targets folks living in South Korea, where this new model is called the LG Optimus GK.

The LG Optimus GK is said to be similar to the one-off Optimus G Pro which arrived in Japan via NTT DoCoMo, where it would see features such as a 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 processor and 2GB RAM being crammed into a more manageable 5” form factor, but fret not, the Full HD display has not been tampered in any way other than the size, where it boasts a pixel density of 440ppi. Other hardware specifications include a 3,100mAh battery, 16GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot and a 13-megapixel camera at the back and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter.

LG Optimus F5 Makes Official Debut At Long Last

LG Optimus F5 Makes Official Debut At Long LastThe LG Optimus F5, a mid-range smartphone which was first introduced to the world at Mobile World Congress in Berlin, Germany earlier this February, is finally ready to be birthed. In fact, the LG Optimus F5 will make its world debut with Europe as the starting point from April 29th onwards, where it will roll out in France first, before making its way to the likes of South and Central America, Asia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) throughout the time span of the coming few weeks.

The LG Optimus F5 is basically a new breed of Android-powered smartphones for folks who want to enjoy the blazing speeds of 4G LTE without breaking the bank, since higher end models only tend to sport LTE connectivity. A 1.2GHz Qualcomm dual-core processor would power the Optimus F5, where it will also be accompanied by a 4.3” IPS display as well as a largest-in-class 2,150mAh battery. It will use Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean as the operating system of choice, accompanied by LG’s innovative and exclusive UX features. There is no word on pricing just yet though, but it should not meet too many objections from the missus. [Press Release]

LG Curved OLED TV Sales Kick Off

LG Curved OLED TV Sales Kick OffAt the beginning of the year on the mad house that is known as CES in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Ubergizmo team managed to capture images of the curved OLED TV from LG, coupled with a closer look at it, naturally. Well, sometime in the middle of this month, we brought you word that the curved OLED TV from LG was about to go on sale pretty soon, and it did not take too long between that announcement and now for it to happen, as LG Electronics has just announced that they would begin to accept pre-orders for this 55” behemoth, going by the model number 55EA9800 in South Korea, where deliveries are expected to kick off from next month onwards.

Over 1,400 LG retail stores in South Korea will be up to the task of taking those orders for the premium TV, which has been slapped with a price point of approximately $13,500. This would clearly make LG stand head and shoulders above its rivals, being the first and only consumer electronics company at the moment to commercialize both the flat screen OLED TV as well as the curved OLED TV.

LG unveils Optimus GK in Korea, brings G Pro features in a 5-inch package

LG unveils Optimus GK in Korea, brings G Pro features in a 5inch package

Not tired of seeing different versions of the Optimus G? LG has just revealed another variant for Korean customers: the Optimus GK. Similar to the one-off Optimus G Pro it delivered in Japan on NTT DoCoMo, this handset has features pinched from the 5.5-inch Pro (1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 CPU, 2GB RAM) squeezed into a more-pocketable 5-inch frame. The 1080p screen here (440PPI) is Full HD IPS like the one we’re expecting to see in AT&T’s Optimus G Pro in a few days, matched a 3,100mAh battery, 16GB of storage, microSD slot and 13MP/2MP rear/front camera setup. This particular variant had been rumored to launch at MWC but is only now being announced for Korean carrier KT, we’ll see how many more twists LG can wring out of the Optimus G platform before delivering a true sequel later this year.

LG will launch the world’s first 55-inch curved OLED HDTV (update)

LG will launch the world's first 55inch curved OLED HDTV

We heard that the curved OLED HDTV prototypes LG showed at CES would be coming soon, and now it’s official. A Korean press release indicates we can expect the 55EA9800 to launch in the next month, with shipments starting in June. According to the specs, its 4.3mm depth results in a weight of just 17kg, probably thanks to a carbon-fiber reinforced frame. Like an IMAX theater screen, the edges are curved towards the viewer to provide a more immersive feeling. Given the fact that we’re still waiting for LG’s flat OLED TVs to see a wider release we doubt it will arrive on US shelves any time soon, but until then you can check out our in-person pics from CES below, and a video after the break.

Update: LG sent over the English press release, which confirms pre-orders start today at more than 1,400 retail locations with a price of 15 million Korean won ($13,500), a healthy bump over the standard version’s $10K MSRP. Release dates and pricing for non-Korean markets are coming “in the months ahead,” check after the break to read all the details first hand.

LG Optimus F5 Makes its Global Debut

LG F5 Makes its Global Debut

Following its successful unveiling at the 2013 Mobile World Congress, the Optimus F5 — the first device from LG’s newest Optimus F Series — will make its world debut starting in Europe on April 29. Launching initially in France, LG will roll out the Optimus F5 in South and Central America, Asia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) over the next several weeks.

The Optimus F Series is a new family of Android smartphones for consumers who are ready to experience the blazing speeds of 4G LTE without the high costs that normally go with such a device. As a key component of LG’s strategy to make 4G smartphones as ubiquitous as they are fast, the Optimus F5 features LG’s advanced LTE technology and enhanced user experience (UX) features.

As display size and battery life become increasingly important among smartphone consumers, the 1.2GHz Qualcomm Dual-Core Optimus F5 addresses user demands by featuring a 4.3-inch IPS display and a largest-in-class 2,150mAh battery. LG engineers
designed the Optimus F5 to deliver longer battery life without creating a larger battery. And the 4.3-inch IPS display offers clear, lifelike images for a superior viewing experience.

The Optimus F5 includes the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 operating system and the best of LG’s innovative and exclusive UX features:

• QSlide allows users to open multiple apps at the same time in full screen mode with the ability to change the size, position and transparency of the windows.
• Live Zooming lets users zoom in on videos so they can get a closer, detailed look at any specific area.
• Video Wiz lets users play movie director by giving them the power to edit videos and enhance them with sound and music right on the phone itself.
• QTranslator function instantly translates not only words, but also entire sentences and phrases by simply using the camera to scan the text. QTranslator accepts 44 different languages and can translate them into any one of 64 languages.

Key Specifications:

  • OS: Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2
  • Processor: Qualcomm 1.2 GHz Dual-Core
  • Display: 4.3-inch IPS (256 ppi)
  • Battery: 2,150mAh
  • Size: 126.04 x 64.46 x 9.30mm

LG Optimus F5 mid-range LTE smartphone hits France April 29, global dispersion to follow

LG Optimus F5 midrange LTE smartphone hits France April 29, global dispersion to follow

LG’s F-series handsets may not be in the same class an HTC One or GS4, but we can’t help but appreciate the solid specs and LTE-goodness baked into these mid-range devices. Following a debut alongside its F7 sibling at MWC, the F5 will begin trickling out to French retailers on April 29th. While there’s no mention of US availability — despite a recent leak pegging it for Verizon — we do know LG will soon be pushing it out to parts of Asia and Central / South America. Aimed at markets new to LTE, the smartphone packs a beefy 2,150mAh battery, 5-megapixel camera, 1.2GHz dual-core processor and a 4.3-inch screen for showing off LG’s skinned version of Android 4.1.2. If you’re curious to give LTE a go and this looks like a winner, you’ll find the full press release after the break.
