LG Cloud rolling out in over 40 more countries by late May

LG Cloud rolling out in over 40 more countries by late May

Although LG jumped into the deep end of the online services pool when it launched LG Cloud last year, it didn’t have much to brag about when access was limited to South Korea, Russia and the US. The company is about to broaden its horizons considerably — it now plans to deploy LG Cloud to more than 40 additional countries before the end of May. While the electronics giant hasn’t outlined its plans on a nation-by-nation basis, it’s planning a truly worldwide expansion that should include Asia, Europe and Latin America. If your Optimus G Pro and brand new TV aren’t already syncing their media in perfect harmony, there’s a good chance that they will within a month’s time.

LG Cloud service goes global

In the 21st century, the cloud is no longer the domain of the skies, but rather, it is an online service that has brought plenty of benefits to the masses, since it enables one to stash some files online (as long as space permits, of course) in one’s account, which can be accessed anytime, anywhere – so long as there is a decent Internet connection, of course. Different companies have come up with various cloud services, ranging from Dropbox to Google’s suite of productivity apps, and now we have South Korea consumer electronics giant LG having announced the global availability of the LG Cloud service. First launched in the US, South Korea and Russia last year, the LG Cloud (which happens to be a TV-centric service) will be introduced in over 40 other countries that will include Europe, Asia, Central Asia and Latin America regions by the end of May.

Just what does LG Cloud bring to the table? For starters, it will pave the way for users to stream content straight to LG Cinema 3D Smart TVs, in addition to deliver a convenient location to store entertainment content which will automatically synchronize between PCs, smartphones and TVs.

Richard Choi, senior vice president of the Smart Business Center at LG Electronics, said, “LG Cloud eliminates the time-consuming process of having to download or manually transfer content between devices. Today’s consumers are no longer loyal to only one type of screen. They move seamlessly from TVs to PCs to smartphones and it’s up to us to help them get the content they want whenever and wherever they want it. LG is one of very few companies that can offer integration across so many display products.”

With the LG Cloud app, one is able to access videos, photos and music the moment it is uploaded to the user’s account. You can get it from Google Play or the LG Smart World store, where this easy-to-install app will play nice with LG CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, PCs and Android smartphones.

LG Cloud floats around the globe

LG launched its LG Cloud service last year in the United States, South Korea, and Russia. After almost exactly a year of availability, LG has now announced that rolling its Cloud TV service out to over 40 countries. The new countries it will get access to LG Cloud includes locations in Europe, Asia, Central Asia, and Latin America.

LG_CLOUD3

The new locations will have access to the service by the end of May. The LG Cloud service is a content streaming service that allows users to stream various content directly to their LG Cinema 3-D Smart TV. The LG Cloud service also provides a place for LG smart TV owners to store entertainment content that can be automatically synchronized between various devices they own such as computers, smartphones, and TVs.

The new service offers users access to multiple content types including video, photos, and music once the user uploads content to their account. The service allows users to upload content one time and then access it on multiple devices. The LG Cloud service offers users up to 5 GB of content storage at no cost.

LG offers access to the content stored on its Cloud using a PC client, website, or smart device. LG also says that in the future, smart home appliances will be able to access the shared content stored on the LG Cloud. If you’re wondering what sorts of smart appliances LG may be talking about, we’ve seen refrigerators that have integrated TV screens in the past. The LG Cloud service also allows users to pause content on one device, and resume watching from that exact spot on another device.

AT&T Livery Spotted On LG Optimus G Pro In New Leak

AT&T Livery Spotted On LG Optimus G Pro In New LeakWe do know that the LG Optimus G Pro has been confirmed to be officially unveiled on May 1st in New York City, which frankly, is not too far away on our respective calendars. Well, since the handset is all set to be officially unveiled, it would make plenty of sense to take in rumors concerning a possible AT&T-branded LG Optimus G Pro into consideration. This is made even more obvious thanks to the folks over at @evleaks who have had a pretty good track record so far when it comes to publishing leaks of real and upcoming devices ahead of their appointed official release date or time. What you see above would be the LG Optimus G Pro that comes in black, where it is accompanied by AT&T’s globe logo located on its back side alongside AT&T branding in its status bar.

So far, both LG as well as AT&T have remained mum on the situation, and with whispers of AT&T rolling out its very own version of the 5.5-inch LG Optimus G Pro sometime in the middle of next month, we, the masses, might not have that long left to wait before the LG Optimus G Pro hits the shelves over at AT&T. Would you be gunning for the LG Optimus G Pro as your flagship Android-powered smartphone of choice, or will you prefer to lean towards the HTC One or Samsung Galaxy S4?

LG Optimus G Pro tipped to partner with AT&T for Spring

Today the device known as the LG Optimus G Pro has appeared in a leaked image which suggests that the company will be working with AT&T for its first release. This device has been released internationally to more than one market this year, and will be appearing in-person at a concert event in May. LG has been tipped to be working with Qualcomm once again to deliver the same processor embedded in the international version of the device, that being the Snapdragon 600.

LG’s push for the larger segment of the smartphone environment has this device heading their 2013 lineup. Have a peek at our hands-on experience with the LG Optimus G Pro international edition and notice the similarities to the image above. This device will be delivered with a slightly different set of flavors inside as evidenced by the wallpaper used in the Evleaks leak – blueberries are a primary wallpaper here while the international version has a much more warm-colored fruit.

This device appears by all means to have basically the same set of specifications as the international edition, this made possible by the Qualcomm processor’s ability to work with 4G LTE, unlike a wide cross-section of processors delivered before last year. One example of a processor changing between international and USA editions is the Samsung Galaxy S III, this device working with an Exynos processor outside of the states, a Qualcomm processor inside.

Have a peek at the LG Optimus G Pro timeline below to see more information on the device that LG will be revealing in May. This device will be taking on the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Note II and the Droid DNA from HTC, each of them coming with relatively large displays compared to the smartphone average as well. Join SlashGear for the musical reveal event on the first of May – we’ll be there with bells on!

LG Optimus G Pro for AT&T detailed: Snapdragon 600, LTE and a Full HD IPS display

LG Optimus G Pro for AT&T detailed

There’s not much surprise left to LG’s Optimus G Pro reveal set for next Wednesday in New York. We’ve already seen the device slip through the FCC and recently had a previewed glimpse of the potential hardware. But thanks to a trusted source, we now have more insight into the the upcoming AT&T variant’s specifications. Based on the official doc we had a look at, LG’s managed to keep this US model mostly in line with its global sibling, porting over the same 5.5-inch form factor, 3,140mAh battery, 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 processor paired with 2GB RAM, a healthy 32GB of internal storage (expandable via microSDXC to 64GB), 2.1-megapixel front-facing / 13-megapixel rear cameras, NFC and WiFi a/b/g/n. What has changed is the actual screen technology used: the AT&T G Pro employs a Full HD IPS panel as opposed to the True HD-IPS+ in the original. Additionally, and unsurprisingly, the device’s radios have been tweaked, with the AT&T G Pro now supporting the carrier’s flavor of LTE (700/1700 MHz), HSPA+21 (850/1900/2100 MHz) and quadband GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz).

Though it would be nice to see LG bump this up to a more current version of Android — namely, 4.2.2 — the AT&T model will likely ship with the more dated 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. Continuing further down the software track, carrier bloat looks to be at a minimum as only two automobile-specific apps are mentioned in the document: AT&T DriveMode and Navigator. Aside from that, LG’s own software suite makes the transition, bringing along QSlide 2.0 (a multiwindow feature), Dual Recording (for the picture-in-picture effect), Tag+ for NFC, VuTalk (a note sharing app), QuickMemo, Notebook and the ability to preset the Home Key’s LED. That enough of a preview for you? Stay tuned for formal unveiling next week.

LG Planning To Release Flexible OLED Smartphone This Year

LG Planning To Release Flexible OLED Smartphone This Year

LG has been working on flexible OLED displays for several months now, even going as far as predicting it would begin selling 60-inch flexible OLEDs by 2017. But before they can do that, they need to get these flexible OLEDs in the hands of consumers on a much smaller scale, which is why they’re reportedly planning to launch a smartphone equipped with a flexible OLED some time this year.

The report comes from The Wall Street Journal where they spoke with LG’s vice president of mobile Yoon Bu-hyun. Yoon has stated LG’s first flexible OLED smartphone will be released during the fourth quarter of 2013. The flexible OLED display is being made by LG Display, but just how flexible these displays are is yet to be seen as we imagine a screen that we can bend and twist as much as we like, which we doubt will be the case in this upcoming consumer product. Optimus G Pro for AT&T leaks out ahead of LG’s US press event

Optimus G Pro for AT&T leaks out ahead of LG's US press event

Want a glimpse of what LG may have in store for the US market come the first of May? Chances are this latest render (pictured above) from @evleaks could very turn out to be AT&T’s Optimus G Pro variant. From the looks of things, not much has changed design-wise since we reviewed the 5.5-inch global model, with the removable, high-gloss backplate still sporting that sub-surface pattern first introduced on the Optimus G. Even the arrangement of the rear camera, flash and speaker appear to have remained the same — the only noticeable difference is the AT&T globe situated none too subtly below. Whether or not LG’s reworked its internals remains to be seen, but with the event now less than a week away, we’ll have all the answers soon enough.
