AT&T’s LG G2 Receives Android 4.4 KitKat Update

AT&Ts LG G2 Receives Android 4.4 KitKat UpdateGood news LG G2 owners, it looks like AT&T has begun to push out the much awaited and highly anticipated Android 4.4 KitKat update rather unexpectedly! We have been hearing about how the LG G2 in other parts of the world have received their KitKat update, and we had to wonder just how long would those of us living stateside will have to wait until we receive ours? Interestingly there has not been much news or rumors surrounding AT&T’s release, so we guess it is something of a pleasant surprise when we found out that AT&T had announced that the Android 4.4 KitKat update would be available for LG G2 customers.

The update should be rolling out today but as is the case with most updates, we expect that the rollout will most likely be staggered, meaning that it will probably be released in phases so don’t worry if you haven’t received your update yet. According to AT&T, the update will bring about an improved user interface, improved battery efficiency, a boost in speed, Printing in the Cloud, and an improved Knock On in which they claim that responsiveness of the feature has been increased.  For those who can’t wait, you can head on over to your phone’s Settings, General, About phone, Software Update, Update Now to try and pull it manually. In the meantime LG has also released a video in which they compare the LG G2 running on Jelly Bean versus one running on KitKat. The differences are noticeable so you can check that out to get an idea of what to expect post-update.

LG G2 With KitKat Compared Against G2 With Jelly Bean

We’re sure there are many LG G2 users out there who can’t wait to get their hands on the Android 4.4 KitKat update. Of course for those living in the US, carrier approval might cause it to be delayed a little bit longer when everyone else around the world might have already received their updates, but good things come to those who wait, right? Well in a recent video posted by LG, it certainly seems to mean that as the South Korean tech company has posted a video in which they compare two LG G2 handsets side-by-side. One of them is running Android Jelly Bean, while the other is running on Android KitKat.

The video puts both devices through a speed test, such as web browsing and gallery performance, showing that the device running on KitKat is faster, thus making the wait all that more excruciating!  The LG G2 is fast as it is but we guess make it smoother and faster in a software update is always welcome, right? That being said, the video’s description has also suggested that the update will be making its way in the middle of March for G2 owners in the UK. We’re not sure what this means for everyone else around the world, but presumably we can expect our updates around the same time as well, or at least that’s what we hope. If you have a few minutes to spare, check out the comparison in the video above.

    LG G2 Mini Now Official

    LG G2 Mini Now Official

We first started hearing rumors about the LG G2 mini back in December, and since then there has been much chatter about the device. Only recently LG teased it on its Facebook page, hinting at an imminent unveiling. It was believed that LG G2 mini will presumably be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2014, but it appears that the company has decided to do so a bit early. The LG G2 mini is now official, it brings toned-down specifications in a shell that resembles its sibling, the powerful LG G2.

Gold LG G2 Surfaces For Sale On E-Commerce Website

Gold LG G2 Surfaces For Sale On E Commerce Website

Last year we saw a lot of manufacturers jump on the “gold” bandwagon. A number of major flagships were released in gold color, which is believed to appeal to masses in certain markets. Even Apple took the plunge, offering its flagship iPhone 5s smartphone in champagne color. We saw a similar move from HTC and Samsung, as well as various Chinese vendors. It appears that LG has succumbed to the temptation as well, and has offered last year’s flagship, the LG G2, in gold as well.

The listing for the gold LG G2 was spotted on e-commerce website ePrice, which is currently selling said smartphone in 16GB and 32GB flavors for $500 and $560 respectively, these units are SIM-free and aren’t locked to any mobile carrier. It warrants mentioning here that LG hasn’t officially announced that gold is now a color option in which the G2 is available in, the company has not commented on this report so far, hopefully it will speak up and let us know in the near future. It certainly wouldn’t surprise anyone to see LG launch a gold colored smartphone as well, the color seems to be quite popular so there’s really no harm in accommodating that consumer preference as well.

LG G2 Android 4.4 Update Apparently Rolled Out To A Fraction Of Owners In Korea

LG G2 Android 4.4 Update Apparently Rolled Out To A Fraction Of Owners In Korea

We recently reported that LG Korea had started to roll out the much awaited Android 4.4 KitKat update for its flagship smartphone in Korea. It appears that the company might have been conducting a soak test. Usually OEMs conduct soak tests with volunteers, they seed the update to a few people in order to be absolutely sure that there aren’t any issues with the update. Reports coming in from Korea suggest that the Android 4.4 update was only rolled out to five percent of all G2 owners in the country.

It is claimed that LG found no bug after the limited roll out of this update and that it has now given the go ahead to start releasing Android 4.4 KitKat for the remaining G2 owners in the country. There have been some reports from those who received the update that they’re noticing battery and browser problems on their devices, but the issues don’t appear to be plaguing everyone who received said update. LG Korea is expected to start releasing Android 4.4 to all G2 owners in Korea from next week. It is still not known when the company plans to finally release the hotly anticipated update in other major markets such as the U.S., certainly G2 owners Stateside would be itching to get their hands on some chocolatey goodness.
