LG Korea launches G2 with illadvised marketing stunt, injures 20 video

It’s a fine line that gadget fans have to walk, moderating our techno-lust just enough that we don’t start hurting people. It’s a lesson that LG Korea has just learned the hard way after a promotional event for the new G2 caused 20 people to be injured. The “G in the cloud” event in Seoul involved launching hundreds of helium balloons into the air, carrying vouchers for free handsets — which some members of the crowd tried to shoot down using BB guns. The company has already apologized to those who were inadvertently shot and will cover the cost of their medical care, while subsequent events have been called off. What’s wrong with a raffle?

Korean LG G2 Comes With Removable Battery

When the LG G2 was announced officially earlier this week, some confusion about the situation arose – where selected sources pointed to a 2,610mAh battery, while there was another camp that claimed the new flagship device to come with a larger 3,000mAh battery. Of course, there were also additional disputes and debates going on, when some LG documents as well as white papers of the device began to tout a microSD memory card slot – something that was missing on the LG G2 which was seen and handled at the New York City launch.

It seems that there are two sides to a story most of the time, and in the unboxing video that you can see by South Korean UnderKG, it seems that all the confusion stemmed from another unannounced variant of the handset – which happens to be the South Korea-bound LG G2, which carries different hardware specifications compared to the one that was unveiled. The LG G2 which was unboxed comes with the smaller 2,160mAh battery that happens to be a Li-Ion battery. The reason behind this? The battery ends up as removable, and you can swap it with a full battery whenever it starts to run low. Not only that, there is also a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, and the inclusion of these two “features” would mean a slight change in dimensions compared to the international LG G2, making it 0.24mm thicker.

Verizon LG G2 wireless charging exclusive in the US

The Verizon LG G2 will be the only variant of the new Android flagship to support native wireless charging in the US, the carrier has confirmed, building the cable-free technology into the phone itself. LG confirmed that the new G2 would be available across all four major US carriers at Wednesday’s launch event, but at […]

Sprint’s LG G2 Could Sport Tri-Band LTE Radios

Sprints LG G2 Could Sport Tri Band LTE RadiosSo we know that the recently announced LG G2 will be making its way onto the four major carriers, such as AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint, and while we presume that all the devices will be equal, it turns out that might not be the case as far as Sprint’s version is concerned. According to a recent FCC filing that shows off Sprint’s version of the LG G2, it has been suggested that perhaps the Sprint LG G2 will feature tri-band LTE radios, meaning that it should allow the phone to hook onto Sprint’s 800MHz spectrum that has recently been freed up due to Sprint shutting down the iDEN network.

What this means for Sprint subscribers is that it should allow them to have better network coverage as far as LTE connectivity is concerned, thus giving users of the phone a stronger and more reliable signal. This tri-band radio feature has made its debut in Sprint’s other products, such their latest MiFi and USB modem devices, so this isn’t exactly new. While this isn’t exactly a make or break feature, it certainly can be used by Sprint as one of its selling points.

No LG G2 Google Edition Planned For The Moment

No LG G2 Google Edition Planned For The MomentLG’s latest smartphone, the LG G2, was announced earlier today and while the phone does sport some pretty impressive hardware, it runs on an LG skinned version of Android, which for some isn’t a big deal, but for others it could be quite a turn off. To that extent we’re sure many are wondering if LG will follow in the footsteps of Samsung and HTC and announce a Google Edition of the LG G2 handset. Unfortunately for those hoping for a stock Android experience with the G2’s hardware, you’re out of luck because it seems that there are no plans at the moment for such a device.

According to Ken Hong, a spokesperson for LG, the company could change its mind down the road, but for now they are hoping that the LG G2 will be able to be a success based on its own merits, rather than the fact that it runs on a stock version of Android. After all Samsung has had plenty of success with its Galaxy line up phones running on the TouchWiz UI, so we guess LG is hoping to emulate the success of its rival. Either way for those who want a stock LG G2, we guess you’ll have to flash the stock version of Android yourself, which the not-so tech savvy might find difficult to accomplish.

LG G2 For Verizon Will Be “Coming Soon”

LG G2 For Verizon Will Be Coming SoonEarlier today LG announced their brand new smartphone, the LG G2, which according to reports would also be making its way onto T-Mobile. However the good news for those not on T-Mobile’s network but would like the G2, you’re in luck because Verizon has recently posted a photo of the G2 on its Twitter account with the tag line that reads that it is “coming soon”. No word on when exactly “coming soon” means, but hopefully it will not be too long.

For those wondering what the fuss is all about, the LG G2 is the latest smartphone from LG that seems to be somewhat of a departure from LG’s typical designs, showing off a slightly more curvy body. The phone will sport a 5.2” Full HD display with a pixel density of 423ppi, and thanks to Dual Routing technology it helps make the phone’s bezel and somewhat minimalist 2.65mm on the edge. It will be powered by a quad-core 2.26GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM, a choice between 16GB and 32GB of storage, a 13MP rear-facing camera, a 2.1MP front-facing camera with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.
