Lytro Light Field Camera helps you stay focused all the time

lytroThere are some gadgets out there that are really worth taking a second look, or a third even, sometimes. The £399.99 Lytro Light Field Camera would definitely be one of them, where you would never be able to lose focus of your subject whenever you want to capture something for posterity. Arriving in four different shades, Electric Blue, Graphite, Moxie Pink and Seaglass Green, the Lytro Light Field Camera would allow you to actually refocus pictures right after you have snapped them – now how about that?

Not only that, with this particular device, you are also able to shift the perspective, where it will provide you with the equivalent experience as though you are in an extremely short 3D movie. With the ability to create tactile living images that tell a story, the Lytro Light Field Camera would certainly ensure that you would no longer look at regular still photos with the same sense of wonder anymore, since those would be static and extremely boring. Instagram who? Just how does the Lytro Light Field Camera deliver its magic? It will record the entire light field instead of just a 2D image, and since there is no need for autofocus, this does away with shutter delays, letting you capture that shot on the spot.

Arriving in an anodized aluminium housing, the Lytro Light Field Camera is strong yet incredibly lightweight, while its textured silicon grip allows you to shoot with one or hand effortlessly, although we will not hold you guilty for using both hands.

Lytro camera getting parallax effect and 3D display support, lands in Hong Kong (video)

Lytro isn’t done extending the usefulness of its light field camera just because we have manual controls. Another update due by the end of the year will take advantage of that focus-independent sensor to allow a parallax-based 3D effect in photos: invoke a ‘full’ focus in reviewing shots and you can start poking around the scene in a limited way without having ever touched a dual-sensor camera. Appropriately, we’re also getting support for examining photos on 3D monitors and TVs that emphasize the added depth. The promised features come hand-in-hand with Lytro’s immediate availability in Hong Kong, where 8GB blue and gray cameras are selling for $3,888 HKD ($502 US) and the 16GB red model goes for $4,688 HKD ($605). Check out our Chinese crew’s eyes-on look at the parallax effect in a video after the break.

Lytro’s Innovative Light Field Camera: Now With Manual Controls! [Lytro]

When the Lytro light field camera made its way into the hands of consumers earlier this year, it did something no camera had previously done: absorb all the light rays in its field of view, making it possible to refocus the image anywhere the photographer desired. But its controls were (perhaps intentionally) simplisitic, which meant that hardcore photgraphers lacked control over the fine details they’re normally used to. More »

Lytro for Windows now available

It looks like the Lytro Light Field Camera that was unveiled last year was announced last year and started shipping out earlier this year will finally be available to more users now. According to an announcement on the official Lytro blog, the Lytro Desktop Application is finally available for Windows. In case you didn’t know, when Lytro first launched, you had to use a Mac computer to edit the photographs taken with the camera. Now, Windows users can take full advantage of this camera too (they’ll need to be running Windows 7 64-bit though).

And to celebrate the arrival of Lytro Desktop Application for Windows, Lytro will be giving free shipping on all orders placed this week. What better time than now for Windows user to pick up the Lytro camera? Lytro has also added a couple of new items to the Lytro store: a tripod mount and a USB wall charger.
