AT&T LTE Moto G Possible

AT&T LTE Moto G Possible

The Moto G happens to be a bonafide mid-range Android smartphone. Customers have praised its build and the specifications it offers for a very competitive price. The smartphone has already been picked up by carriers like Verizon, Boost Mobile and U.S. Cellular, who have all used it to bolster their prepaid smartphone lineup. It appears that another major U.S. carrier might be jumping on the bandwagon as well, with the possibility AT&T LTE Moto G being released in the near future now rising.

Apple Could Get Fined Over LTE Blocking

apple_logoApple’s newer iPhone devices come with LTE enabled on them, a feature which iPhone users have been clamoring for. However it seems that the iPhone being able to use hook onto LTE networks, it seems that there are some networks which Apple has been actively blocking which could now get them into a spot of trouble in Belgium, where they could face fines for LTE blocking. This goes against the rules set out by the Council of Ministers who ruled that no mobile phone maker can block 4G access for any carrier, presumably for competitive reasons.

According to the report from ZDNet, Apple currently has a partner relationship with Mobistar in the region, which at the moment is the only officially certified network for the iPhone. Other competing carriers such as Proximus and Base do not officially sell iPhones, much like how T-Mobile was a couple of years ago. Apple has since been accused of dragging out the certification process in a bid to protect its preferred partner until they themselves have deployed a 4G network. It is unclear how Apple will respond to this potential legal issue, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled and update you guys accordingly.

Karma 4G WiFi Hotspot lets you stay connected in style

karma-4gForget about 3G, 4G or LTE connectivity is where the action’s at these days if you want speedy mobile connectivity. Well, with so many different kinds of mobile carriers to choose from in a healthy and fairly competitive market, surely you might want to consider the $79.99 Karma 4G WiFi Hotspot as part of your next round of hardware purchases? This particular device follows a “Fair Share” model, being a pay-as-you-go WiFi hotspot, giving you the flexibility of connecting up to 8 different devices simultaneously. After all, you can never quite tell just when you would need an open WiFi connection, can you?

The Karma 4G WiFi Hotspot comes with 1GB of data to get you started right out of the box, and it is nice to know that this pay-as-you-go model would mean you do not need to top it up every single month, or at a specific expiry date. Basically, each subsequent 1GB will cost you $14 after that, and if you are being the hotspot host, your generosity would let you remain connected longer than usual since each time someone hooks up to your Karma, you will end up with another 100MB of data, and the goodness cycle does not end there, too. They themselves would be on the receiving end of another 100MB of data. The network of choice would be Sprint’s 4G WiMAX.

HP Chromebook 11 LTE Available Now For $379

There is no doubt in the fact that Chromebooks have gained a lot of popularity over the past year, which has resulted into a surge in sales. According to a report, Chromebooks accounted for over 21 percent of all U.S. notebook shipments in 2013. A new crop of Chrome OS powered notebooks were unveiled at the International Consumer Electronics Show last week, so customers are definitely spoilt for choice. Though there aren’t many options for those who would prefer LTE compatible Chromebooks, which is why they’ll like the HP Chromebook 11 LTE.

The LTE compatible variant of HP Chromebook 11 is now available for purchase. Best Buy has it listed on its website for $379. Its compatible with Verizon’s long-term evolution network, the carrier claims it has the largest LTE network in the U.S. HP Chromebook 11 LTE is priced $100 more than the Wi-Fi only variant, customers probably won’t mind paying the premium if they really want to have another connectivity option on hand if there’s no Wi-Fi available. For those who don’t know, Chrome OS is heavily dependant on internet, Chromebooks require internet connectivity, else there’s not much that they can do. Customers who are looking for Wi-Fi only Chromebooks have a lot of options, including the latest C720 Chromebook that Acer unveiled at CES 2014.

ZTE To Ship Own LTE USB Dongles

ZTE To Ship Own LTE USB DonglesThe folks over at ZTE have just announced that they will be shipping a home-grown LTE modem within one of its very own LTE USB dongles. If you are one who loves to dive knee deep into model numbers and names, then it would be better known as the ZTE ZX297502. This would come across as a second-generation LTE modem from ZTE. According to Jim Mielke, VP of engineering at ABI Research, “ZTE recently announced the WiseFone 7510 LTE modem for release early this year but the 7510 is a third generation LTE chip. The first generation was mainly a prototype; the second generation was the first real production chip and is certainly the basis for the 28nm 7510 scheduled to be released early 2014.”

The ZX297502 would strictly remain as a modem baseband; where it is accompanied by ADI and ACP transceivers, not to mention a TI power management unit (PMU). ABI Research has also performed a complete teardown of the ZTE LTE chipset as well as the accompanying chips, where one would be able to gain access to the complete bill of materials alongside rough cost estimates, high resolution dismantling and board photos, and component die photos and X-rays. We wonder when will we see these products being used widely by the masses. [Press Release]
