Nokia Lumia 1520 ‘Bandit’ Specifications Leaked Once Again

Nokia Lumia 1520 Bandit Specifications Leaked Once Again

Over the past couple of weeks we have consistently heard that Nokia is going to unveil a new phablet soon. The phablet reportedly carries the “Bandit” codename, and is expected to be announced at Nokia World 2013, which takes place on October 22nd in Abu Dhabi, UAE. We’ve seen leaked images of the device and heard chatter about its specifications. The infamous Twitter based leaker, @evleaks, has now published major specifications of the Lumia 1520, believed to be the retail moniker of Bandit.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is said to have a 6 inch full 1080p HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quadcore processor aided by 2GB of RAM, a 20 megapixel PureView rear camera and Qi wireless charging with cover. The phablet is said to be available in 16GB and 32GB flavors with black, white and yellow colors being offered. Information about pricing and availability has not been provided as yet. Though rumors suggest that Bandit will be first released on AT&T around November, which will be followed by a global roll out sometime in December. These release timeframes are based on rumors and there’s no confirmation if Nokia is going to adhere to them. Hopefully the company will clear up when we can expect to see Lumia 1520 “Bandit” in the market at its event next week.

Nokia Lumia 521 Is Most Used Windows Phone Stateside

Nokia Lumia 521 Is Most Used Windows Phone StatesideMicrosoft as well as Nokia have both been doing their bit to promote the Nokia Lumia 1020, which is all well and good considering how that happens to be their flagship device. Heck, there has even been a special Windows commercial that was made for The Walking Dead TV show, but in terms of popularity, both the Nokia Lumia 520 as well as its sibling in the US, the Nokia Lumia 521, remain as the most widely used devices that run on the Windows Phone mobile operating system platform. The online ad network AdDuplex, which rolls out monthly reports on the Windows Phone devices which hook up to its service, earlier announced this week that the Nokia Lumia 521 happens to be the number one Windows Phone device in the US as it carries a 19.2% market share.

This would mean that the Nokia Lumia 521 has at long last, passed the previous number one device, which is the Verizon exclusive Lumia 822, while the Nokia Lumia 520 takes the position of seventh place on the list. In terms of the worldwide market share, however, the Nokia Lumia 520 continues to hold the lion’s share of the market where Windows Phone handsets are concerned. If you were to jump aboard the Windows Phone bandwagon, just which particular model would you go for?

Nokia says current high-end Lumias won’t get Bluetooth 4.0 support (update: they may)

    Nokia Lumia 920 1020 and 925

We hope you don’t want to use a heart rate monitor while running with your Lumia 1020 — you’ll likely be out of luck. Nokia Australia claims that Bluetooth 4.0 support won’t be coming to existing high-end Lumias like the 820, 925 and 1020. There are “hardware limitations” that prevent an upgrade, the company explains. We’ve reached out to Nokia for clarification, but the company may have hinted at those limits when launching the Adidas miCoach app — it mentioned that only the Lumia 520, 620 and 720 would work with Adidas’ heart monitors. The restrictions will no doubt frustrate some owners, although we suspect that Nokia may improve its Bluetooth support with the next wave of Lumia hardware.

Update: Nokia Germany spokesman Ben Lampe says that Bluetooth 4.0 support will come to all Windows Phone 8-based Lumias through a post-Amber update. Clearly, there are conflicting responses; we’re hoping to get a definitive answer soon.

Nokia tablet gets approved by the FCC with AT&T and Verizon LTE

Nokia tablet spied getting FCC approval with AT&T and Verizon LTE

We have to hand it to Nokia: the company faces an acquisition by Microsoft in the very near future, but it’s still got a few tricks up its sleeves. The FCC just approved a mystery device known as the RX-114, and Nokia’s team did an incredible job of dressing up the paperwork so as to hide all clues of what it really was — that is, right up until the last page of a 167-page document full of bland measurements and technical graphs. What you see above is official confirmation that Nokia is indeed working on a tablet, complete with diagrams of the device along with specific references to its slate-like state. (Forgive the fuzzy print; the diagrams are pretty small, so we enlarged them.)

What else do we know? The docs confirm that the tablet features LTE with support for bands 2, 4, 5, 13 and 17, along with a full suite of HSPA+ and GSM / EDGE. This means that regardless of which carrier actually picks up this particular device (frequency support doesn’t guarantee carrier coverage, and no networks have confirmed that they’ll be selling it), it technically will work on Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. Of course, we’ve already seen purported leaks that show the Windows RT device with Big Red branding, so it’s not a far stretch to believe this is still in the works for one or more US providers. We’ll continue to parse through the paperwork for other cleverly hidden clues, but this at least confirms what we already suspected — and if we had to guess, we have a strong suspicion that we’ll be seeing this beaut in the flesh at Nokia World in Abu Dhabi on October 22nd.

Nokia ‘Glee’ Music Centric Device Rumored

Nokia Glee Music Centric Device Rumored

Nokia might have agreed in principle to sell its phone business to Microsoft, but it is working to pump out a few devices under its iconic brand name. The company has an event scheduled on October 22nd in Abu Dhabi where it is expected to unveil as many as six new devices. A Windows RT powered Nokia tablet and a Windows Phone 8 powered Nokia phablet are already expected to be announced at that event. Nokia might also be working on a low end Lumia smartphone that’s focused on music. The device may internally be known as Nokia “Glee.”

Infamous Twitter leak maestro @evleaks was first to break word about the Nokia Glee. The tweet was quoted by expanded upon by a well known journalist, who added that the Glee is actually a low end Lumia smartphone that’s music centric. Nothing else is known about this device right now, so we can’t just conjure specifications and features out of thin air. The interesting thing to note is the fact that this smartphone is supposed to be music centric. Is Nokia about to launch a new music service, or is it going to unveil something that revamps the music experience on its line of Lumia devices? Obviously there’s no saying if the company will reveal anything about it on October 22nd, but its likely that we’ll hear more rumors about this device in the near future.
